    Thank you Tim for taking the time to carefully and methodically explain how to use Basecamp. Garmin obviously invested a huge amount of time and resources into the development of the program and then couldn't be bothered investing anything into educating people in a clear and simple manner on how to use it- thank goodness you did. Thank you again

So far I can't see why some viewers on another video have commented that this app is a bear to use, so far it looks highly intuitive to me. EZ Moto Tim, I have to say this is such a helpful series! I've been a nitwit for the past few years because I essentially had all of the tools around me, but never took the time to search for training videos on BaseCamp. Despite being quite technical, I was just plain stymied by the BC interface since it behaves so different from every other GPS/routing platform I've touched. I was determined to get better at creating adventure routes for riding my 1200GS. This series is telling me everything I need to know in a very learnable sequence to use BC! Thank you so much.

    Thanks Tim, this was informative. We are RVers so we have different map planning needs. I was following along with you while I created my own route by setting my home as a starting point. Then I added a campground, but I could not get the route to recalculate as you showed and could not get the popup window you displayed. I realized if I select both places in the Unlisted Data label, then right-click and select "Create route using selected waypoints", the route began to calculate and display on the map otherwise it did not show the route. Not sure why the popup with the 6 tabs at the top is not displaying on my pc. All updates have been installed.

    • @EZMotoTim
      @EZMotoTim  Před 4 lety

      BaseCamp will work just as well for RV Planning. In addition to being difficult for people to use, BaseCamp is difficult to support without seeing your screen. First check to be sure you don't have the "Global Map" selected in the Maps menu. You should have a "City Navigator..." map selected. The popup with the 6 tabs is the Route Details page. There are a couple of ways to open it. 1) double-click on the route on the map. 2) Click once on the route on the map, then r-click on the route and select "Open." I don't understand why the route is not showing up, but I suspect you don't have the proper map selected. If, after watching all 4 BaseCamp videos, your are still having trouble, you can send me an email with a screen shot and I'll respond.

    • @EZMotoTim

      Activity Profiles are simply collections of settings. Go into Edit/Options/Activity Profile. Select Motorcycling, set how it's setup. Sect Dirt Biking and see how it is setup and compare the two and see which one works for you. The profiles allow you to switch from one group of settings to another quickly. (You can also make your own custom profiles.) Thanks for watching.

    Hi EZ Moto Tim, your videos have help me a lot in understanding Basecamp for motorcycling, I do have one problem however, my Basecamp does not want to use motorways(UK) between start and finish when I know the route is faster when using them. Preferences are set for "faster" and "interstate" so I wondered if you could help me?

    • @EZMotoTim
      @EZMotoTim  Před 3 lety

      It's hard to tell from here what is going on. Double check your preferences. Remember that checking "Interstates" means you want to avoid using interstates. A viewer in Australia had a similar situation and it turned out to be caused by a gap in the map. Troubleshoot it this way - create a new route between 2 points on the motorway. Continue adding points to see if BaseCamp will follow the road or get off and go around. Thanks for watching.

    Thanks for your video's! I've been cursing base camp for years, now I get it, I will see how the first planned trip works out. I have the Nav Vl, are there setting to make on the GPS so that if you get off route it wont recalculate? Is is as easy as turning off the recalculation setting when you are following a planned trip?

    Always come back to your videos when I haven't made a route in a while. My question today is, I had a route I was trying to get to a reasonable length of time, under 6 hours of ride time. When I transfered it into my garmin GPS the route time came up almost an hour shorter from from it had on the desktop. I haven't gone through the turn by turn yet to make sure it transferred correctly but was wondering if there is a setting that I missed while resetting up basecamp? (I deleted it while cleaning the computer and didn't realize so I had to start over from scratch). Again, thanks for these videos.

      1) Check to see if you have Fastest Time/ Shortest Route set the same in BaseCamp and on your GPS. 2) Drag more via points into your route. Other than that I don't have a definitive solution.

    Thanks for a great video re the set up! I'm new to Basecamp (using it on Mac). I understand the folder structure, but can't figure out the point of a "List". When I want to create a Route, I first have to create a List and then create the Route inside of this List. If the List the way of containing all the info required for a particular route on the map (ie the routing, waypoints, directions, etc), why can one create multiple routes per List? That seems confusing to me. Thanks

    • @EZMotoTim
      @EZMotoTim  Před 4 lety +1

      Think of a List as a bucket that can contain many items, such as waypoints, routes, tracks, etc. A List is the lowest level folder and Garmin could have called it a folder. Don't think of a List as everything needed for just one route. For instance, a List could be named "Alaska Days 1-5" and contain routes and waypoints for the first 5 days of a trip. Folders and Lists are just devices for organizing your data. Organize them in whatever way makes sense to you.

      The Global Map is just a place-holder so you see a map when you open BaseCamp. It's not to be used for routing. You need to use Garmin Maps for routing. Load the maps to your computer using Garmin Express. You may need to buy additional maps for areas not included with your GPS.

I know of no way to load them on my computer (WIN 10). When in base camp with my garmin device plugged in via USB the map appears (not global). I returned to the states this year and purchased what I thought was North America NT lifetime maps, but it wasn't... The guy said that was probably my issue, since I downloaded the maps only to my device and not my PC when I purchased the maps. Also, he stated that since I would have to pay for each update, it may be more cost effective to get a new GPS with lifetime map updates and a more upgraded system. I wanted a new GPS anyway, so I ordered the Zumo 396 LMTS and Garmin gave me an $80 discount... I hope it will serve me as well as the Zumo 660. Thanks again!
