Dude, the only thing that could make this game better is DOOM levels of blood and gore.
The original was actually pretty gory, I remember some animations included dismemberment and beheading.
Mortal Combat had a chess game you could play once upon a time. Didn't even need to be good at chess, each piece is assigned a health bar and you fight one on one.

Where has this game been all my life????? Bishops come at you "sideways". Rooks aren't agile enough to move anyway but in a straight line. The Queen has MULTIPLE ways to get you. Pawn are pretty straight forward (pun intended) and the Knights do it with style.
They should have named this Sims chess because the pieces look like Sims.

Hey, when the Bishop tells you to drink as he's in the middle of blessing you, you chug the wine.
you know i actually like the little combat sequences, their not bad, also i like how it's not the same fight theme for every encounter. for example the Queen vs the Pawn, the 1st had her seduce then shock the 2nd one had her trick the pawn, nice change up. if the animations were slight better, and maybe a few more details & effects i would play this chess game.
BRUTAL. I love this kind of chess.

This is a pretty neat game with so much graphics and action. I don't know how to play chess, yet watching this game feels so pleasurable. Well done! :)
as a beginner, all you really need to know is how each piece moves.
Rook:forward, backwards, right and left in straight lines. As much as it needs to, or until it hits either edge of the board. That's also how it takes pieces.
Bishop:the same as the Rook, only it moves diagonally.
Queen:literally just a combination of Rook and Bishop. Moves and captures in either direction.
King:literally just like the Queen, but it can only move one square at a time. Also, there always has to be at least one square distance between the two Kings.
Knight:Moves in L shapes. Can jump over other pieces.
Pawn:from it's original starting position, it can move two squares at a time. From there, it moves one square at a time. It captures pieces differently than others. It captures diagonally, and can only capture a piece if it's directly forward and left/right of it. However, if a pawn has just traveled two squares forward, another pawn can capture it, right after it moves.
So, if a white pawn moves two squares from its starting position, and stops et either side of or back left/right of a black pawn, the black pawn can capture it at that moment. This is called En Passant, literally "On passing" in French.
Then, checks and checkmates are achieved by getting the enemy King into the line of fire of one(or two) of your pieces. Checkmate is achieved when the King can not get out of check. Either it can not escape, the checking piece can not be captured, or the King can not be blocked. The Knight is even more powerful here, since its check can not be blocked, due to its ability to jump over pieces.
If the King is the only enemy piece left, and it cannot move, that's a stale mate. A draw.
The King can also castle to either side, if it and the Rook had not moved until that point, and if there are no other piece in the way. Note that you can not castle in, through, or out of check.
This is the basic stuff all beginners need to know. If my explanation is confusing, then just check out any videos on CZcams. Chess is a great game to spend time, and develop your mind.

I had the original one from 1988. There is one animation when the queen takes a pawn. The queen raises a hand and the pawn's sword disappeared. The pawn would look left, right, then at the "camera."
And every time I yelled, "RUN!!"
