When this started playing and I looked up at the inside of the Stranger, I knew this DLC was going to be something special
I expected a lot of things from the dlc, but the world being Halo-like wasn't one of them. That moment when you realize how cool the place is is absolutely phenomenal
@BlastAnims EXACTLY
I'm still blown away every time I'm inside. It really peaks my sense of discovery.
I really wish we could have spent the entire DLC exploring this place instead of having to going to "there" half the time.
@@chingamfong I mean when you find out what "there" is it's cool asf but yeah kinda agree
Survival horror segments were nice tho
The first drop into the river felt just as awesome as the sun station hatch opening
bruh I remember when I opened the sun station hatch, I was just looking for minutes trying to process what am I seeing.
@@Gureenu sounds like a good way to get consumed by the sun.
@@Gureenu and then you read “1 minute before sun station destroyed.. 59 seconds before sun station destroyed” and then you’re like DAMNIT READ EVERYTHING FAST!
@@panampace Omg me too. I got there right before it exploded lol. I got to read everything though and then watch it go boom
Same sense of awe from viewing the impossible
THE moment you realize they fucking did it again
1. "This DLC cant bring me that joy anymore"
2. Go inside the stranger.
3. Flip the switch and look up into the center of the stranger.
4. First statement is now false.
The base game was so peak I didn't really expect them to top that with a dlc. Surely their next game can't top this?
@@pramitpratimdas8198fr the dlc absolutely made the series peak plus an entire ost that tops the base game one is insane
You guys ever realize the symbolism of the Stranger mirroring the Ash Twin Project's core, and the Strangers themselves mirroring the Nomai?
The inside of the ATP is sterile, dark and utilitarian, while the Stranger is massive, lush, and serene.
The Nomai made every effort to not disrupt their surroundings while constructing the Ash Twin Project, whereas Strangers destroyed their home to build their Ark.
The works of the Nomai outlived their species by millenia, allowing one tiny being to eventually hold the universe in it's palms, while the Strangers still cling to "life" in a simulation as little more than ghosts, their greatest work almost unseen.
The Nomai risked everything, repeatedly, to see the eye, while the strangers tried to silence it out of fear and spite.
The Nomai were extremely open, writing their plans down writ clear for all to see, and the living one we see even immediately opens up to an alien, while the strangers made every effort to obfuscate the truth, burning historical documents and hiding themselves away because they could not stand the truth, reacting with immediate hostility to the first outsider they see, even after millenia of isolation.
nice
Tbf, the Strangers did risk everything at first to get to the Eye
@Virus they sacrificed their homeworld and built a church to the eye. The difference is they learned what it had to say and hated it.
Without Owlk people hearthians would never exist. They did nothing wrong.
@@varvarith3090 I find that really tough to believe. The Owlk didn't interfere with the course of evolution on Timber Hearth, unless you're going to drop some lore bombs revealing that they did.
This song is like 75% of the reason why piloting the raft is so fun. It really makes me feel like I'm having an epic adventure. It kinda reminds me of Assassin's Creed's music for some reason, maybe because of the vocals?
Definitely reminiscent of 2's soundtrack - particularly "Venice Rooftops"
There aren't any vocals, this looks like vocals but it's actually an instrument.
@@lordecircojeca2039 what instrument?

I think more of Beyond Good & Evil. So many impactful games have music like this.
“Camping in space” has become “white-water rafting in space”
"what other national park activities can we put into this game?"
@@CrispyGFX I’m still trying to figure out what National Park the new location is based on.
- The Hourglass Twins are the Arches National Park/The Grand Canyon
-Timber Hearth is based off Yellowstone.
- Brittle Hollow is like Glacier National Park up in Montana, or maybe we look to the Giants Steps in the UK(?)
- Giant’s Deep is definitely like the Everglades.
Dark bramble is nothing
- this new location might be like Grand Tetons National Park since that place has a huge variety of terrain.
@@c4sualcycl0ps48 Dark bramble is ever-expanding midwest suburban sprawl, which is a sort of wilderness in its own right.

For a more accurate gameplay experience, play only 5 seconds of this song, stop, wait a couple seconds, play another second and then stop again.
That's what keeps it from getting old tbh
So accurate... gg
I don't understand
@@codybates5659 I believe it only plays while you are on the river, so if you keep jumping out to explore and then coming back the song will keep turning off and on.
@codybates5659 It's because the music only plays if the raft is moving on the river. This means that if the raft hits something or gets stuck, it's pretty likely for the music to stop playing.
So basically, the joke is that the raft gets stuck so often that you're only actually able to hear the music for a few seconds before it gets stuck again. I'm pretty sure at least, correct me if I'm wrong.
This fading in the second you hit that switch to drop your raft into the river, followed by a view that literally stopped me in my tracks is what immediately sold me on this dlc. I've still gotta finish it, but I had to look up this track because of the impact it had.
I was so happy realisizing that the whole DLC was gonna take place in a sort of inside-out planet in a spaceship. (reminded me of Interstellar)
"there's more to explore here"
@@Hekik-jh6vp interstellar doesn't even come close to Outer Wilds in terms of imaginative vision or mind blowing moments
It takes u off guard because you are expected something terrifying with how the stranger sets it up and that realisation that its so damn beautiful and impossible hurts.
“Wait no no oh god- hold up… oh wow…” My first words dropping from the raft
This kicking in during that initial reveal of the Stranger being a Halo-style ring world immediately sold me on this dlc. What a fantastic moment!
Still blows my mind that they added a second entrance to the stranger for purely cinematic purposes
@@Brixxter Yeah so true! They planned for you to enter from the back the first time you show up.
@@Brixxter The first entrance felt so cinematic, but the crazy thing is that nothing about it is scripted. The music, the sudden reveal, everything is just a result of the game's systems and really good design.
Why do people act like Halo came up with ring worlds?
@@joshuagleeson4776 it didn't come up with ring worlds, but it's what first came to kind for me. would you have rathered I say Interstellar-style ring world?
I can only hope Mobious continues to work with Andrew on their future projects.

i kinda wanna see if something like arcane can work again: giving talented artists heaps of money and letting them loose
Hearing this music you're like
*we are definitely somewhere new*
I wish I could erase this game of my mind so I could play it again. The sense of discovery, the fear and fascination of the unknown, I miss it all.
I hope they make OuterWilds 2 at this point. Imagine a brand new adventure 😍
@@francescoiorfino2002 There wouldn't be no universe for such an adventure (since it ended in the game), and I don't think games like Outer Wilds should have a sequel, the experience is so unique that only one game is enough, though we crave for more. Getting dropped down, being confused by being on a raft and looking up to see the incredible view of the Stranger's interior just as the music ramps up has to be one of the most memorable moments in gaming for me.
Having this blastin' as you see the dam break for the first time is just BWHAAAAAAAAA. BWHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
I remember the first time it flooded I was blown away. I was in the loww ater area and the whole house just filled with water and I was like AAA WHA-
Myself I was exploring a house and saw a slide reel for the first time. I was trying to figure out what it was and thought “Huh, it might go into that thing that looks kinda like a projector.” As soon as I slid it into the projector, I heard the blast in the distance and the entire house flooded minutes later and at first I thought it happened BECAUSE of the slide reel.
@@Merudiana-the-local-demoness I had a moment like that. You know how at the end of the loop the cinder isles tower falls over, and if you're in the dream world the whole world will tip over? Well, I was in the dream world and used one of those light/extinguish things to make a boat, but just then it tipped. I thought lighting it caused the tippage.
I was inside the island tower area when I heard the explosion and I step outside and see the wave of water, and I walked onto the bridge outside as the wave passed by and everything collapse and I died lmao.
Next loop I was *IN* the tower when it happened, so hearing it muffled and the loud "creeeeeeeeeeeak" as my perspective tilts for a second really got me, thought something next to my character exploded.
@@Merudiana-the-local-demoness I was like that as well, figuring out the projector, then hearing a loud BANG in the distance. Only I walked outside to investigate what was happening, and saw this *massive wall of water* racing towards me. Immediately dived back into the house for cover while the entire place was flooded.
If the ringworld reveal was the first incredible moment of this DLC, that was the second.
Splashing into the river, confused about what I had just found, I looked up at the ring world above me and my jaw dropped. Best introduction to a video game area I've seen in a long time!
Who in their right minds would make a sequel and then call it a dlc. Mobeius would
Same can be said about concerned ape, latest stardew valley's update was the biggest one, not to mention it was completely free. Few of the reasons, why stardew valley and outer wilds are my favourite games.
would've been pretty weird as its own game
As far as I understand it, this DLC was meant to be in the original game but they just didn't have the time/resources to put it in before release. It'd have been super weird if they decided to take it and make it its own game rather than just working on it some more until they could put it into the game like how they meant it to be :d
Yacht Club, except they did it three times.
While I really enjoyed the dlc, it did feel a little out of place and like it would have been great already in the base game
The river has become the only source of enjoyment for all of us.
The rafts work. Numerous have been stationed throughout the ship and lessons are being given to the younger members. They love it. They race, to see who can get the best time, and they laugh when they fall off and almost get carried away by the rapids. All of the older members that will be boarding the ship are overjoyed to see them so content, but I know they feel the same as me. I can only smile, not because I am happy for them, but because I am envious of them.
This signal that we found... it's strong. It's louder than any signal we've picked up before, which is implausible considering the distance. We are planning to move towards a neighboring solar system that is closer to it, with the goal of locating and analyzing it. It's undeniable that it will be dangerous. This is something big.
I am envious of those kids, because I wish I could be as blissfully ignorant as they are now.
Aw.
Some years later those kids discover the eye's true meaning and the enjoyment stops
The feeling of sheer awe when you looked up for the first time.
Lack of knowledge is a power videogames need to utilize more.
Andrew Prahlow is *so goddamn good at this*
the sound of hands sliding down the strings really spooked me when I first played the DLC, for some reason to me it kind of sounded like a someone's whining or crying
When you first saw the Stranger, we're you blinded by it's magesty?
Dumbstruck? Paralyzed?
POV: Your mind just got blown
I could totally imagine a Final Voyage-like version of this, where you're racing against time through the rapids for...some reason. I can't think of how it would fit into the lore, but there's potential for a fan remix.
Could mirror the dramatic final voyage scenario by requiring you to ride the dam wave as it bursts to finish the dlc for whatever reason. Though no idea how you'd make that knowledge gated like how the final voyage was.
@@Mono_Person maybe make an area over the river that is too tall to reach normally, but riding the top of the wave puts you in the perfect spot to do so. If you led the player to that spot, but showed them no way to reach that height, I think they’d naturally intuit using the wave from the dam.
@@williamxxvi6739 Problem is if there's something too tall for me to reach I'd take the solution as scout-spamming for extra height lul
Honestly, there were like two points in this DLC where I was like "Ah, so THIS is probably part of the final 22-minute rush" but it never really amounted to anything and I'm honestly glad about that.
@@quantumblauthor7300 Me too, I'm glad they didn't force something in. It's a cool music potential, but not much else. Riding the dam wave would be cool if done correctly, but I imagine it would be really hard to get it right, and would end up just being really frustrating. Plus you would have the idea to reach a higher spot like right away, something like a massive plateau wouldn't need simulation lore to urge exploration.
SPOILERS(obviously):
I just love the fact that Mobius planned the way you’d approach the Stranger from the angle of the deep space probe, putting you in that dark ominous room and suddenly dropping you into this music on the raft, but then when you start a new loop and go straight to the Stranger from the other side it actually gives you an entirely different introduction to the inside its so perfectly planned out, there will never be another experience like Outer Wilds its just so perfect
When the theme played and I got my first good look at the new world, I was gobsmacked. This friggin game still manages to amaze.
Godspeed You! Blue Hearthian
First time on the stranger was like the first time landing on the halo ring. The sense of awe and wonder at this massive alien structure took my breath away
As soon as I started the game and went to The Stranger, the second the raft dropped down all I could think was “Holy shit”
When I first saw the Stranger from the outside, I couldn't comprehend what I was looking at for a second. I thought it'd be another Planet. I entered from the side where the Raft drops you right into the River. The sudden shift from dark, metallic room, to bright river lands going above me in a halo...man. Words cannot describe the absolute awe I felt.
Yup. You can never experience the initial moments of the dlc the same way.Flying toward the stranger for the first time as the sun disappears, the stranger showing up and the “what? Okay..”. Then dropping the raft into the river the first time and looking around. And then looking up..brilliant
immaculate vibes
what does this button do?
oh, it dropped me into,
a river? and the river goes... up?
oh
I could only imagine of Stranger's world used to look like
Imagine- thousands of rivers and marshes with quite constant overcast of either forest canopies or dense fog, the dim surface dotted by probably houndreds of lights from either the inhabitant's machinery or their retroreflective eyes
The calm before the spooky storm.
“Why aren’t you stepping off the raft?”
“Hold up this is my jam”
Outer Wilds music always sounds different at the end of the game than the beginning. When I first played, this sounded like adventurous white water rafting music. But by the end, my trips down the river were consumed with theorizing, planning, and considering the overwhelming tragedy of what had happened here. This track isn’t just for adventure, it’s for brooding. Pure genius.
The first time I stepped into the Stranger, and suddenly wound up on a raft on a river, inside a spaceship, where gravity made the river wrap around over your head in a giant ring...
I just sat there and laughed. Not because anything was funny, but because the game had just knocked my socks off and blew away any expectations I had, and I was SO excited about that. Just the overwhelming feeling of "okay, this absolutely rules. let's go."
I hope that Mobius Digital continues to make amazing games like this one. Combining mystery, intrigue, and beauty.
This song was the reason for me to play this game
This game has such a tense feel at times, and riding down the river and listening to this is such a good break from the tension as you ride to the next point of interest
A flood of emotions go through me every time I hear this music...
A deep feeling of discovery and admiration but paradoxically a feeling of nostalgia and sadness come over me...
I admire the ingenuity of the strangers but I am overcome with grief thinking back to their fate...
And suddenly... after 22 minutes spent in the Stranger...
The sun dies creating a huge explosion behind him called a supernova fueling the Stranger which can now travel the cosmos...
Curiosity alone had drawn me here but soon the Ash Twin project would take me back home
This game and it's OST is really a masterpiece,
It's a unique experience and I envy people who discover it for the first time...
Sometimes I'd like to go back in time and play this game for the first time again and again.
The first time this started when entering The Stranger's interior, I thought to myself: "oh yeah, we're back for one last wild ride."
Printed on my eardrums, forever.

I love this one! I'll just ride the river for a while just listening to it.
"...as i step into the darkness my light blazes on glimmering orbs. i walk toward them, and i notice the gear on the left. But my light, darkness engulfs me: i had to walk into it to get here in the first place- i turn the gear and light hugs my eyes yet again, and as the water flow brings me to the beam, my sail is stopped and lift from the whirling waters..."

Best song in all of outer wilds outside of “echoes of the eye”
this song is soo good at capturing the feeling that the story is not over and theres still something new to uncover
This song right here, is what sold me on this game. just looking up, seeing how the river was flowing above, and just the pure majesty of it
Hearing this when you first start the dlc feels like a call for adventure and exploration. Hearing this after experiencing a good chunk of the dlc story feels like a call to action and an unstoppable will to finish what you started.

This song caught me so off guard
The entire DLC is truly fantastic
god this song is so beautiful and moving it never ceases to bring a tear to my eye
I can practically hear the entirety of the dlc in this single song. From the opening notes of the stranger's discovery, to the knowledge and the simulations, to meeting the prisoner and freeing them. Every moment in a ring of wonders.
it fits so perfectly
This song makes me feel like I'm floating down an artificial river in an abandoned space ship
yeah i totally get that vibe aswell
Same man. Whenever I play a game where I have to do that I'm gonna play this music over it.
When you drop for the first time and the music starts to swell and you look up to a giant ring world with these tree and grass you feel relaxed then you see you first slide real
I cried
Weird hearing this without the splashes of the waves
You fly right into that mysterious silhouette eclipsing the Sun, finding a strange spaceship, it doesn't seem nomai, hearthian, or nothing like you've seen before, you don't know what it is or where it came from, despite that you fly ahead, driven by curiosity. You enter the hangar still confused, this place is full made of metal, it looks dark, cold and silent, there's nothing more than a few ships and you, so you keep going.
The text is unreadable, but that doesn't stop you to enter in that room and open the door, leading you to a small quiet room, but this one is made of wood. Without other options, you press the only luminiscent button in the room, and suddenly you fall to what looks like a river. You look up, an inmense ring world is ahead to you, full of rivers, trees and even villages,
And is at this moment when the music starts.
My favorite thing about this theme, and I'm sure others have said it, is that it's different compared to the other music. It sounds otherworldly compared to the other songs we hear.
W game W music
When I first started playing the DLC, I was so scared of everything. I was so scared of the ominous presence of the Stranger as I approached it, I was scared of the very non-Nomai and non-Hearthian ship loading bay, and I was scared of how dark everything was. But when this my raft hit the water, I got a look at the light world, and this started playing, I knew everything was gonna be ok.
you have no idea how much I got scared when the raft just fell with me on the river

when you are in the river and look up... what a feel
I remember looking at the very austere and creepy looking ship, pretty afraid, and all of a sudden being amazed by dropping into this amazing world.
Nothing in the world compares to crashing into that water for the first time, hearing this music start up as you try to take in everything around you, you don't know where this river might go...somehow, all you know is that whatever lies at the end of it is going to break your heart.

The song sounds like its reversed sometimes, has anyone tried reversing it to see if it actually is something?
Since you can be upside-down in that area that would make sense! I'm also interested in fînding out if that's a thing 🤪
