Thank you folks for doing this. I was there for about 18 years. I learned many valuable things while there, that I still hold dear today, BUT, God has clearly led my wife and I out of there into deeper waters. Only those that have been enslaved can fully understand the big picture. But, it's not like everybody had to understand the big picture. What must be understood, is that Jesus is the only one. Amen.

I really enjoyed listening to this Christian man speak. You can tell that he is Spirit filled now. What a beautiful blessing he is to other folks leaving these kind of churches. We spent time with the Conservative Mennonites and his story is identical to what we saw with them. No gospel, only works and oppressive authority. The total control technique is a very powerful manipulation tool.
    Ephesians 2:8
"For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God. Not of works, lest any man should boast.”

I hang with Holdeman and I haven't seen anything bad. They have their problems like anybody else, but people do leave, people come back, people join, and they let outsiders like me hang with them.

First and foremost is our relationship with Christ. Then the Church can be a comfort and guiding light for us. That is how I find it in the Church. It is such a safe haven for me.

I’ve been out of the Holdeman church in DeRidder, La 16 yrs and I left for the reasons you are talking about. I didn’t commit a “death sin” as they call it. I have a relationship with God and I’m at peace now.

I will not disagree that God may have led you there as a stepping stone from where you were, but as you experience an are open to the truth of the gospel,an are willing to obey, I do not see any way you can stay there!!

I agree, that is right, and JESUS IS THE CENTER OF THE MENNONITE CHRISTIAN LIFE, IF NOT , THEN HOW DO WE GET BORN AGAIN, ONIY THOUGH JESUS LOVE BY HIS BLOOD AND GRACE CAN SOULS BE SAVED.

I am so sorry that you had that experience. I’m thankful that the Holdeman church I go to preaches Jesus and that He’s the only way. And I think the church as a whole is going through a transformation now and we hear next to nothing about the way we dress and other legalistic issues. But we do hear about having a personal relationship with Jesus.

I remember you as a youth coming from Rich Hill,to sing at the Beulah church in Versailles...I was put on repentance, but I was supposed to ask God what I had done...My husband, a narcissist, and an abusive husband was fine, later I realized the deacon was jealous because our finances were so much better than his, and the prominent member, Dennis Unruh.. had jealousy issues against me..why target me..why not my husband.. I went for talks for awhile.. if I said anything, they took it as things against me, if I said little, I was not being open, and btw 10 ministers came to my house to tell me I was 'off", and needed to repent..

I have had a good experience with Holdeman, but they don't reveal everything to an outsider, they do have folks who leave. Some of them, especially the newer generations, seem more open-minded and flexible.

Thanks, I've been in and our of Amish/Mennonite/Hutterite groups...it's all man, none of Christ....you gave a clear sizing up of that reality. One group had the slogan: The greatest mission is Submission, and u know they had man control as their ideal; not the Holy Spirit.

  • @AbeldeBetancourt
    @AbeldeBetancourt Před rokem +3

Religion is about control and personal ego, not about God. It is only good hearted people who try to recompose their image of God (or lose it completely...) just to try and do *actual* good in *real* life.

All true what he's saying. I know cz I was from the same place and know what happened. Anyone who doesn't believe it has cognitive dissonance. This church is a very sad mess. Jesus is their answer and yet they try to avoid him. Rely heavily on antidepressants and doing the right things. I'm so so thankful that God is just and true and by him truth shall stand to the end.

A wonderful group of people! I hear about Jesus and his grace every Sunday when I listen to the live stream. This is not a true representation of the Holdeman Mennonite church. They have a thriving group of young people! I grew up in this church. This has not been my experience.

Looks to me that you are cofused.
The Church is the Body of Christ.
    1 Corinthians 12:12-13:
For as the body is one, and has many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body:
    so also is Christ.
For by one Spirit were we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles,
whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.
We are baptized into one body ...
