Gone but not forgotten! Who doesn't love the Everly Brothers right? They had such a influence on Simon and Garfunkal, The Beatles, The Beach boys, any band of the 60 that featured good harmonies.
Doesn't get any better than this. Miss you, Phil Everly!! Thinking back on the night I saw them both perform with Simon and Garfunkel!! Such sweet memories.
I've been crying for hours since learning of Phil's passing. They were my first "favorite artist" and always my favorite duo. As others have commented, they taught a generation how to sing harmony. It took me 50 years to notice that Phil always stayed a little farther from the mike than Don, so his higher harmony part wouldn't overpower Don's melody. Glad that Phil lived to see the unique tribute of an entire album of theirs (1958 folk collection "Songs Our Daddy Taught Us") being covered, cleverly named "Foreverly" by Billie Joe Armstrong and Norah Jones. Phil was pleased with it. Now Phil is harmonizing in heaven with Jim Reeves, Patsy Cline, Sam Cook, Otis Redding and so many others we've lost. Prayers to the family.
It's one year since Phil passed on and I still can't listen to any of the EB music without a tear. You knew the day was coming, and yet, it's still very difficult to imagine either of them gone. I love this song. Seeing them on the EB'84 tour was one of the highlights of my life. They made such a difference to anyone who ever heard them. Now Phil can take those golden pipes to a higher audience. He helped shape my life.
I would have given a thing to see that EB, they came toAustralia in 1989 I think, due to illness whenever it was it was horrible knowing they were in the country and couldn't go to the concert, they were just wonderful together weren't they thank god you still have Donald. 🎸. Xx
Michael Wolf Beatifully said, Michael, and I saw your note just as I was wiping away tears myself after watching them do Take a Message to Mary from the Royal Albert Hall show. Amazing - these two guys make grown men cry! I spent my career in the concert business, and I'll tell you that I never met any serious musician who wasn't absolutely in awe of Phil and Don. AWE. And who didn't love them like they were family even if they'd never met them.
I don't know what's worse. Not being able to see legends due to financial problems or due to illness. Either way, its sad when one misses out seeing legends before they retire and/or die.
Just heard this beautiful song and my soul has taken flight --- beyond all time and space. + RIP EVERLY BROTHERS - DON & PHIL + Been a fan for decades -- LOVE YOU FOREVER.
This song was one of there best vocally Phil's harmonies are the very best in the business. They never lost a beat after 10 yrs down time. Wi sh he was still with us. They we're in a class by themselves.
Ditto on that!!!! They are not just the greatest duo ever, but one of the best singing acts in any catagory you want to put them. Their influence is everywhere, from S & G to the Beatles, Neil Diamond, A-HA & many many other recording artists. Phil, being my favorite, had many wonderful solo songs as well. I have seen many live performances over the years & I miss them. But, Phil's legs bother him too much now & they have paid their dues to their many fans... now it's their time to relax.
Fabulous life long memories from one of the all time best vocal chords in the business. The harmonies will live on forever. Thanks and godspeed on your journey Phil. Gone but never forgotten. Condolences to all the family and friends of such a wonderful talent. xxxx
watched a video clip where Phil and Don look for a car in a junkyard, finally find one which looked beyond repair, but get it redone and drive off singing this lovely song...just love it🌹
I'M AT A LOSS, I KNOW NOT WHAT TO SAY, I AM SAD AT SUCH A LOSS, BUT I'M NO DIFFERENT FROM EVERYONE ELSE,THESE BROTHERS MUSIC WAS A PART OF OUR LIVES, SO PHIL MAY YOU REST IN PEACE.----A TEAR----
My all-time favorites. Take a message 2 Mary 4 me, Phil. RIP. Chet Atkins said Don was the best rhythm guitarist he had ever see, responsible 4 those infectious rhythms.
Phil and Don belonged together like Ray and Dave. They may be brothers and hate each other's guts, but when it came to music --- well that was the tie that bound. Godspeed on your personal Nightingale, Phil. Looking forward to Paul McCartney's response.
great song written by Paul McCartney specially for the Everlys, soon after they first got back together after ten years apart. Paul has a special heart and soul
As I watch this (Nightingale is my favorite) I see Phil being a younger brother emulating his older brothers moves, looking up to him. He once said he thought Don was the one with real talent. My heart broke thinking of how their relationship was and ended. I will forever be grateful for what they gave us, however. Don and Phil, even the short lived solo works were extraordinary. We are the lucky ones.
Phil had a lot of talent too, I'm sure he was just being humble when he said that. He wrote When Will I Be Love which is a standard and is still being sung today, not too shabby!!
I remember when this song came out. I just fell in love with it immediately. I recorded it off the radio and just played it and played it and played it! Never got tired of it and still love it, as I do their other music!!! Was so thrilled to hear they had released such an awesome song!
I'm 66, the first record I bought was Bye Bye Love, and the first LP Songs Our Daddy Taught Us. In the years between, I've loved all kinds of music, but never lost my affection for the Everleys. Whose to touch them for that instinctive harmony?
The sale of the Everly Brother's records shot up 696% upon the death of Phil. RIP Phil. I grew up on these guys in the late 50's and 60's. One of the most successful duos of all time. Thanks for the memories.
The Everly Brothers...how sweet it was and still is...music to capture and inspire the heart. Is that too big a claim? I still recall my neighborhood heartthrobs and how Don and Phil's (and many other's) songs were a theme for my yearnings, which as a boy of pre-teen years I didn't understand at all. Listening now carries me back. Lucky me i remember all the words and melodies...after an hour of this I'll probably have no voice tomorrow!
I'm 47 and have been a big Everly Brother's fan for a long time. Imagine my excitement when I went to a Simon and Garfunkel show sometime around 2003 in Boston, and - much to my surprise - S&G introduce the Everly Brothers to the crowd in the middle of the show. As much as I like S&G, I didn't want Don and Phil to leave the stage after performing three songs.

Thank you. The morning I read on my computer Phil Everly had passed, I went back to bed and cried. I grew up listening to them and was totally amazed with their singing. (Their gorgeous looks didn't hurt anything either.)
But weren't we blessed to have had them as part of our growing up years & lives? Some people will never know what they have missed. Our parents loved and respected these lovely young men just as much as we did. I wonder how often the kids of today can say that about their music idols...How 'bout those sleasy Rappers? LOL. Thank God for Don and Phil...RIP beautiful man.
Wow! 24 times even beats me, I was at the second night of the reunion, and I have seen them in every tour since, and three times before the split, but that only makes about 16 times.
I grew up on Everly Brothers Hits, but missed them for years. When they made this reunion comeback, I was thrilled. All of a sudden I was a young girl again. Auditory memory is so powerful. The brothers' clear, beautiful tones gave me chills. Since this concert, the three albums that followed have become my favorites. Their harmony is beautiful to hear.
Though this song was written many years before Linda's death it seems so perfect for his love for her. Note: "McCartney's own version still existed strictly as a demonstration recording, which he had still not released publicly, as of the middle of December 2016. Nor was he known, by then, to have performed it in concert or recorded any full-fledged studio versions of it." '
You are correct and isn't it interesting to wonder why. I believe Paul has let the brother's version stand alone as a studio recording and live performance out of respect for their influence on himself and John. Perhaps at this remove, with some departed and others nearing the end, he will find it fitting to salute The Everly Brothers by singing his rendition of this amazingly uplifting song.
Can you imagine these two as young, headshaved US Marines? They were at one time, Marine Reserve. They certainly could have chosen an easier way to serve, you have to admire them for that. Thanks to McCartney for one last chance for them to show their stuff!
John B Yes he did John. He was a great admirer of them and once stated that he was so awed when he met them he was shaking! Paul did a cover of this song afterwards.
Written for the Everly Brothers by one of their 2 biggest fans....."John and I were great fans of the Everly Brothers, and we tried to model our harmonies after theirs" - Paul McCartney

Fabulous Performance!!!!

Phil sounds fantastic here what a great voice he had. Miss you Phil.
Never, ever, will I tire of listening to the Everly Brothers!
Gone but not forgotten! Who doesn't love the Everly Brothers right? They had such a influence on Simon and Garfunkal, The Beatles, The Beach boys, any band of the 60 that featured good harmonies.
For certain
I love the Brothers.
The song fits their harmony and style. I cannot think of two other people who could sing this and sound this good. RIP Phil.
I can. Paul McCartney, who wrote it.
So, the Every brothers sings it better than anyone
"We'll fly together to the land of eternal sun"
RIP Don and Phil god bless
Whatever they sang together sounded magical!
so right
Doesn't get any better than this. Miss you, Phil Everly!! Thinking back on the night I saw them both perform with Simon and Garfunkel!! Such sweet memories.
May you be on the wings of a nightingale, Phil. You will be sadly missed in this world but rejoiced in the next.
RIP, dear Phil. Thank you for so much great music.
Diese beiden total süssen Jungen mit ebensolchen Stimmen, auch jeder für sich, werden ganz
schrecklich vermisst.😢
Some things are just too beautiful and make you feel so many things ... The Everly's are that for me .
Loved the Everlys. Rest In Peace Phil
Be at peace forever, Phil. Thank you for giving me joy throughout my childhood and as I grew. None better with harmony!
Don passed away 3 days ago.
RIP Phil - wonderful, eternal music
Their reunion concert at the Royal Albert Hall 1983 was out of this world after 10 years apart they sounded absolutely brilliant
I've been crying for hours since learning of Phil's passing. They were my first "favorite artist" and always my favorite duo. As others have commented, they taught a generation how to sing harmony. Bye Phil. Your voice, and your brother Don's were the voices of Angels! Thank You for the songs and the memories!
the Everly's singing a McCartney song.. how could it get better.. Thanks Don & Phil.. godspeed Phil..
They were absolutely two of the greatest.
It's one year since Phil passed on and I still can't listen to any of the EB music without a tear. You knew the day was coming, and yet, it's still very difficult to imagine either of them gone. Some of the first music i heard in my life was Don and Phil. I still love them. Such beautiful harmony. Goodbye Phil.
I cry when I think of the loss of Phil Everly! This song seems to enhance my sadness! Thanks for the amazing memories!
Now they both fly...On the wings of a Nightingale.
Just heard this beautiful song and my soul has taken flight ---
beyond all time and space. + RIP EVERLY BROTHERS - DON & PHIL + Been a fan for decades -- LOVE YOU FOREVER.
Rock and Roll died a little more and will never be the same now that Phil has left. RIP Sir you changed the world!

The greatest singing duo...ever.
Their harmonies were so great. I get chills when I hear them.
Sibling harmony. Voices that are alike blend so well.
I LOVE YOU EVERLY BROTHERS. WILL FOREVER BE YOUR FAN. I CAN LISTEN TO THIS SONG OVER AND OVER AGAIN. YOU BOTH SANG PRICELESS OF SIR PAUL'S SONG.

This was The Everly Brothers back in great form! Should have been a much bigger hit in the UK!

The world has lost one haft of an absolute singing treasure. Adios Phil.
What a singing sensation they were, when they were together. So Sad to watch Good people go so early. Thanks for the memories Phil. Farewell!
Simply the best duo ever. Thanks for posting

iThe Everly Brothers - Perfect voices - plus being the greatest singing duo act!
One of my favorite Everyly Brothers songs. They were popular in the 1960's in the U.S. They had great harmony. Fran
And in the 50's when they started!!
They never lost it. Pure magic. jhp
Both guys gone now. So Sad. I love this song.. that Paul McCartney wrote for the brothers for the EB-84 album. The reunion album.

another Macca under-rated classic....
Ram on,
Joe.
Great McCartney's song!
The Beatles idolized the Everlys, must have been great for Paul to pay them back with this wonderful song.
this should have been a no 1 hit...
I love this song I can listen to it every day Paul McCartney wrote the song for them thank you

PM is a genius.....
Written for the Everly Brothers by one of their 2 biggest fans....."John and I were great fans of the Everly Brothers, and we tried to model our harmonies after theirs" - Paul McCartney
Dave Edmunds was the music producer for the selection.
Love these guys! Had so much fun singing along when i was a kid; everyone, 1, 2, 3, "When i love...." :D
Wunderschöne, harmonierende Stimmen.
So etwas gibt es nur 1 Mal !
We were at their reunion concert in Edinburgh, great to be able to say that, they were just magic and what a sound.

Oh this is so beautiful! What gorgeous harmony. Thanks for sending me this video, Scott. I'll keep it so I can watch it more times.

Oh what beautiful harmony! Thanks for sharing this, Scott. I'll keep listening. Great song!
Great music! Thank you!
