In this video I react to an awesome rendition of You'll Never Walk Alone by Liverpool fans. This was an amazing moment of camaraderie and celebration by the people at this association football game. I love moments like this where people come together in unity.

I'm from Finland. This song, at least to me, shows the brotherhood between the Liverpool fans. I also have the understanding that this song keeps the memory of those 97 fans alive who so tragically perished in the absolutely devastating and horrific Hillsborough stadium disaster. It was a tragedy which truly hurt those who truly love football, even those outside of England. 💖
I'm Scottish and would never never allow The shit rag the sun over my door, in solidarity with the boys from Scouse land !! 👍👍👍
@@georgejob2156 Hey George, as a survivor of pen 3, ta for your expression of solidarity, that rag ( I can't even say it's name to this day ) is not welcome in our city, and sells very few copies here. in one of the links above, the one from inside The Kop, I think you will appreciate the banner in the centre of the picture. Y.N.W.A.
@@georgejob2156 respect to you!
I’m Liverpudlian and my mother was friends with Andrew, the 97th victim of Hillsborough, back in the 80s - she had always talked about him before he sadly passed away. My auntie lost her cousin on the day. My dad knew several of the victims, and had a ticket himself but hadn’t gone with somewhere else he had to be. I was born a couple of years after Hillsborough but everyone in Liverpool has a link to it. Love to you in Finland (I’d like to visit there some day)
This song was our song well before Hillsborough but it has only seemed more apt since then and I’m at anfield a fair amount and it still makes me smile every time
All the teams have their own songs..This was from a movie way back and written by Rogers and Hammerstein for Carousel..
WORDS: When you walk through a storm hold your head up high and don't be afraid of the dark. At the end of the storm there's a golden sky and the sweet silver song of a lark. Walk on through the the wind, walk on through the rain, though your dreams be tossed and blown. Walk on, walk on with hope in your heart and you'll never walk alone. You'll never walk alone.

I'm not a Liverpool fan but it brings a tear to the eye and goosebumps every time I hear it
The song originally appeared in the musical "Carousel". A Liverpool band named Gerry and the Pacemakers recorded it. It was a massive hit, and LFC adopted it as their anthem. It means a lot in soccer in UK.
It was stolen by celtic fans, sorry, you can't leave anything down when they're around😉
The Liverpool fans singing it is awesome and does send shivers down your spine.
I was about to say exactly the same.
A fantastic anthem.
I believe Elvis did a version also.
He did infact. Great singer even though he was sometimes a dick
And 'Gerry and the Pacemakers' were a Liverpool Group! You should be able to find them singing this on CZcams - and it was them singing in the background (or their recording to be exact).
True, but you're forgetting the disaster that brought Liverpool to adopt it - Hillsborough
Man United fan here. JFT97 You'll never walk alone 🇾🇪🤝🇲🇨
I am from Liverpool and a big LFC supporter. This song makes the hairs stand up on the back of my neck and brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it. x

I'm English and I don't like football but I remember watching the Hillsborough disaster on the TV as a kid and it was horrific. This song always brings back the memories of those poor fans being crushed and I can't help but have a little cry. The fact that there really hasn't been any justice and it's taken so long for the truth of what actually happened come out after a massive cover-up just makes that song so much more meaningful. It's pretty beautiful seeing people come together like this.
I remember it also, it hurt to watch, so tragic.
Yes I remember that day like it was yesterday. I was 10 I got home with a friend after going swimming and it was on TV. My mum told me what was happening and we couldn't believe it. People spilling onto the pitch and people being put on stretchers from the ad board's. Then one ambulance came onto the pitche. It was a fan that got a player's attention for them to realise what was happening. But the match should never have gone ahead. You can see people crushed against the cages before kickoff. We were absolutely horrified.
my dad and i were watching the game live on tv when the disaster unfolded. we knew it was bad from the shots of the ambulances driving on the pitch but didnt really understand the scale of the tragedy. What happened there has had so many ramifications for the city of Liverpool and its relationship with government and the rest of the country and IMO elevates LFC above other clubs.
Imagine all those thousands of people singing for you as a player. Amazing.
I'm English and not a football fan at all... but this brought me to tears 😪
In Britain a football team isn't just a commercial entity, it's part of a person's identity. It's connected with place and community and your relationship with them. Loyalty is often a family thing, if your parents are fans then you become a fan. If you look into the histories of the teams they started in localities and the players would have been your neighbours or work colleagues. Several fans have named their children after every player in a team, giving the child 12 or more names. Lifelong fans even contact teams requesting that their ashes be scattered on the playing field after they pass on. A famous manager of Liverpool Football Club, named Bill Shankly said, “Some people believe football is a matter of life and death, I am very disappointed with that attitude. I can assure you it is much, much more important than that.'
Same with most of Europe too
Exactly. It’s the religion of the working class.
@@RyanKeane9this man, couldn't put it any better
You’ve got to look up the Hillsborough disaster to understand why they sing with such passion.
They were singing this long before that disaster but it has extra meaning since
We live in Australia and attended this game in Melbourne in 2013. I was born in Liverpool and this song brings tears to our eyes
@Gary Sanders; Oh that must have been truly amazing ☺ . It's many years now since I was able to go to Anfield, remember standing on the Kop and it being a lot easier then to get in, no 20+-year waits for a season ticket! . A few Scousers I knew emigrated to Australia in the early 1980s and loved it, although they missed the old city and going to the match in particular.
Tears streaming down my face, every time I hear this song sung by thousands of Liverpool fans. Its amazing. Not a Liverpool supporter at all, how I wish other teams had such a song, to feel as close to one another as the Liverpool Fans feel.
Every time I go to Anfield I cry every time I hear it!
Ferry Cross the Mersey does it for me as well 😢
I've been a liverpool fan for 45 years, and always gives me chills listening to the awesome fans singing it, and love how there in tune and drown out the actual song at times😀🏴
Yet you forget what you did Heysel Stadium disaster
29 May 1985 selective memory liverpool fans did that not the police both were wrong so please have respect.
Here so awesome they got us kicked out of Europe for 5 years
Yea I'm Newcastle and I love this Liverpool fans,. Gives me goosebumps,. Nearly as good as hour fans 😜
My hubby and son went to this game. We're ex-pat Brits living in Australia. They're both ardent Liverpool fans, having been to matches before, said the noise was so loud they could literally feel it in their organs!
As this was an exhibition match as Liverpool playing in Australia is not an everyday thing. Just about every fan in that stadium was there to see and support their team, most never having had the chance to see them live as the UK is so far. This was a once on a lifetime opportunity for many and every shirt, scarf, and voice shone for them. The players must have been so emotional after witnessing such a display and welcome. 💞
correct term is a Pre-Season friendly
@@kathnunan641 Yes exhibition matches are for sports that are not currently popular in a country or region ,which is hardly the case for football in australia yes its behind AFL cricket and rugby league, but its hardly a sport that is unknown in australia
Hi what makes this even more special is that it's a Pre-Season friendly in Melbourne, Australia 11,000 miles from Anfield, Liverpool, It's also sung with passion at Celtic (Scotland) & Borussia Dortmund (Germany) IMO the greatest football anthem hands down, Always brings chills and certain emotions⚽⚽⚽
They just copied Liverpool
@@sarahpagett9191 Who copied Rodgers and Hammerstein or, to be more accurate, Gerry Marsden wrote his version of the 1945 Carousel song in 1962/3 and it was immediately taken up by the Kop. It doesn't matter, ultimately, who wrote or sang it first, but it is recognised as being the anthem of L.F.C. worldwide, as well as being sung with passion at Celtic, BvB and FC Twente amongst others.
Brings tears to the eyes such emotion
Love the scousers
You'll never walk alone Gerry and the pacemakers
Great reaction
Love peace from the UK 🇬🇧
As a Chelsea fan I remember when we played Liverpool 7 times in 1 season across all competitions and I liked it because I got to hear their fans singing this! It was weird conflicting emotions!
Respect
I was 9 when I saw all the images of those fans crushed at Hillsborough and it had always stayed with me. This song really hits the heart. I love that those 97 are still remembered and this song is saying those fans are not alone, that all those left behind walk with them.
Oh yes bless them
Norwich City fan here, but every time I hear You'll Never Walk Alone.... the hairs on the back of my neck rise... and I get a lump in my throat... long live the anthem of Liverpool FC.
I'm blown away by the level of support here. Did you notice the final words of the commentator? "What an unbelievable moment for football in Australia." That took place on the opposite side of the planet from Liverpool Football Club. Every one of those fans paid around a thousand dollars and travelled for 20 hours to be there. Amazing!
No they didn't lmao. Most of the fans were Australian Liverpool supporters 😂
I'm in my seventies and a lifetime Liverpool fan. This song has been our anthem since the sixties and still to this day I get goosebumps everytime I hear our fans belting it out. It brings a lump to my throat. The passion our fans have for our football team is beyond belief. That's why we'll Never Walk Alone !!

The loyalty of Liverpool is overwhelming. I loved my 3 years living in Liverpool.
Hi Steve. The player you see in close up a couple of times is Steven Gerrard, he was Liverpool's iconic captain, he scored 120 goals in 504 matches which for a midfielder is pretty good. He played for Liverpool for 16 years and never played for anyone except over 100 times for England.
I have a lovely photograph of Steven Gerrard with my 5 year grandson Daniel who plays at the Lfc academy with Stevens 5 son Lio. They played Blackburn Academy this week and my grandson got the man of the match. The coach said it was the best little players team he had ever seen, what a great compliment for the kids that is?
Also the youngest victim at Hillsborough (10 years old) was his cousin. Stevie G said he always played for Jon-Paul. YNWA is also now part of Last Night of the Proms.
And he played 1 year at LA Galaxy at the end of his playing career.
I believe that Steven Gerrard lost a cousin at Hillsborough in 1989.
Lives in my home town of Formby.
Written by Rogers and Hammerstein and made a hit by a true Liverpool scouser, Gerry Marsden and his band, the Pacemakers, in the sixties. After being a Liverpool fan for over 40 years I finally got to see a game at Anfield in 2013. I was so overcome with emotion that I cried almost all the way through when it came to singing this anthem before the kick off.
As an Arsenal supporter now almost 60 years old, I am jealous of this anthem, it moves me as well.
Bless your heart! It always makes me cry too. My Dad used to play this all the time. 😍
Sang this song many many times live at Anfield, Wembley, Millennium Stadium etc and it always gives me goosebumps! Unreal when you’re there. Best football club in the world YNWA.
@Reacting To My Roots This was sung in Australia at a pre season friendly ( Pre Season friendly iis when the football season is about 3 or 4 weeks from starting and the teams play other clubs around the world to get there match sharpness and fitness because when season is over they don't play mutch football and don't train as much )The song your never walk alone originally came from the musical Carousel but group from liverpool called Jerry and the pacemakers did a cover ot the Rodgers and Hammerstein song which is the version you hear Another thing to look up is The Hillsborough disaster you will then learn why the song has a lot of more significance afther you looked at THE HIllsborough disaster look long battle for justice of the afthermermath it will blow your mind
it's horrendous isn't it. The lies, the corruption, the pure horror of it all. He definitely needs to look into it for context and understanding, but it is hard. Really difficult. Especially, as you say, knowing now how disgustingly long the battle afterwards for any kind of justice. remember the 97

G'day Mate! Fun fact for you...That game was at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in Australia and on that day there were over 93,000 in the audience and roughly 90,000 of them as you can see were Aussie Liverpool fans! Just a measure of how universal football club fans are...Cheers!
This was a match between Liverpool FC and Melbourne Victory at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on 24 July, 2013. 95,000 fans in that stadium! Brilliant.
The fact it happened in Melbourne makes it even better!
It was also classed as Liverpool playing as the ``home team``. That Cricket stadium puts most of the UKs football stadiums to shame.
I am not a football fan at all but this song makes me tear up because it immediately evokes memories of the Hillsborough disaster and the emotions related to that.
Such a powerful song

Likewise. It was also sung by the packed Mall at the final balcony experience of Queen Elizabeth II at the end of her Diamond Jubilee Celebrations, when Prince Philip was in hospital. That was probably the greatest tribute ever paid to her.

It is a song of love and support not just football but for everyone who needs support and letting them know they are never alone
You’ll never walk alone was actually American song, written by Hammerstein. The version sung is by Gerry & the Pacemakers, Liverpool group at time of the Beatles.
What makes this even more special is that it's an English team playing away in Oz and the whole stadium maybe 100,000 are singing Liverpools anthem, not sure about the sole Everton fan. I am a Villa fan but still love the song.

Bill Shankly Liverpool manger 1959-74. His image is on some of the flags in the video.
The famous sign the team passes underneath and touch when going onto the pitch was originally ``Welcome to Anfield`` Shankly didnt want to be too friendly to the opposing players so he had it changed to ``This is Anfield``.
Youll never walk alone was written by Rodgers and Hammerstein for thier classic musical "Carousel" (1945) and later adopted by
Liverpool football club after Gerry Marsden the lead singer with , Gerry and the Pacemakers (1963) we made it our clubs anthem..

YNWA is patriotic in a sense, i'm not into football at all but i view it as an anthem for the people of Liverpool, as a city. We're a very culturally independent city that's braved the brunt of economic change and hardship, left at times with very little but our people and our world famous team. it's a song that represents moving through loss and tragedy to become better. And we sing it instead of the national anthem here in Liverpool, there's very few people who unironically respect the actual anthem that a few teams like to sing at games and due to it's ties to wealth and classism and the things that divide us. Whilst YNWA is a song of unity amongst not just Scousers but amongst all people's. Again im not into football but every time i hear it it to me speaks of a better time, inspiring me to yern for the cultural respect our people deserve.
We played this at the end of my son's funeral, when leaving the Church. He wasn't a Liverpool fan, but it is played at many funerals, not just Liverpool. It's the words and the emotions. I've even watched Manchester United fans singing their hearts out to this. It just seems to pull everybody in.
This song makes me cry every time I hear it. In memory and respect for the 97 people who lost their lives at the Hillsborough football Stadium, the home of Liverpool football team
FYI, Hillsborough is actually the home stadium of South Yorkshire club Sheffield Wednesday. It was chosen as a neutral venue for the FA Cup semi-final between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest on that fateful day 15/4/89.
@@319metresMW Oh yes you're right, sorry my mistake

So glad you have reacted to this, my beloved Liverpool Anthem! You seemed stunned, lost for words when watching this one, was so good.

"You'll Never WalK Alone" and Liverpool FC mean more than life itself to Liverpool fans in Liverpool and across the world like me right here in America ❤❤❤❤❤
You'll Never Walk Alone - Last Night of the Proms 2011 is another version. Its lovely.
Only a very few clubs truly have an "Anthem", but Liverpool's is undoubtedly the GOAT. I'm no Liverpool fan, but this always gives me "the chills". Amazingly this video was from Australia, when LFC were on tour, so these really are "international" club fans!
I'm actually a West Ham supporter, one of the few other clubs that has an "anthem" - check out the Hammers anthem - "we're forever blowing bubbles"....
@Nigel Lusby; 'Bubbles' is one of the oldest isn't it? Norwich too, if not the oldest?
It was a U.K. no 1 single for Liverpool group Gerry and the pacemakers in November 1963 the football club adopted it
This was sung by fans in Australia. Listening to thousands singing is very powerful and Liverpool fans all around the world sing with pride. Maybe listen to Liverpool fans singing at Anfield stadium. Amazing. Unity. You will NEVER walk alone.
This event was held at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in Melbourne Australia when the Liverpool Football Club was visiting Australia. The stadium holds 100,000 and is used for AFL during the winter months and cricket during summer. It looked to be full for this event.

I love the city of Liverpool. I love the people of Liverpool. I love Liverpool Football Club.
It's amazing listening to this particular version of fans singing the club's anthem, 95,000 Brits and Aussies who all support Liverpool, ignoring the rivalry between the 2 countries when it comes to sport, and they're all singing as one when it comes to all supporting this great club
that's a empowering song, it unites people when they feel down or need a confidence boost both as a player on that field but also as supporter
This song, is the song of the beaten but never broken. Those who will always stand back up, help you up and keep you moving. A defining trait of people in the northwest of England, especially Liverpool. They are letting the team know that they are always going to be there backing them up. You could see the comfort that song brought Gérard at the end. It's the best bit about fans and I don't even support Liverpool. Lol
Please look up the lyrics, they are beautiful and heartbreaking at the same time. If survival instinct had a themesong this is it.
I would like you to check out "Green Day crowd singing Bohemian Rhapsody at the British Summer Time Festival - Hyde Park, London" Thank you
Look at a Celtic Liverpool game - both teams sing this before games it is spine tingling hearing both sides sing, the fans also have a great affinity for each other
Celtic fans just copy Liverpool. It's pathetic really.
There is no other song that has so much emotion released, it always gets me ,i am so proud to be a Liverpool fan., no team like them
I am a Birmingham City fan. (I do have soft spot for Liverpool though.) I was at Anfield for the Rolling Stones gig last year. When the band went left the stage, and we were waiting for encore, the whole crowd sang this. It was such an emotional gig because of the death of Charlie Watts. And "Walk on" made it so special. I could sing it without betraying my footie roots !
Its such a pity you dont understand football culture Steve. I really think that you would get it.
Gerry of Gerry and the Pacemakers went to the cinema to watch Caroursel and heard this song and wanted to record it against the wishers or the record company however he got his own way in the end.
Watching the Liverpool team and their fans roaring out YNWA after they defeated Barcelona at Anfield was just brilliant. Sports and emotion in harmony.
That's my team, when I hear the fans sing that song it brings tingles down my spine. OK I've only been a fan a few years compared to my husband who is life long fan. 😍❤
This is when LFC played a pre season friendly match in Australia.
1:09 I'm a Liverpool fan and this song always gives me goosebumps because it brings me back to the Hillsborough Disaster (1989) were 96 Liverpool fans were crushed to death because the gates were reopened to an already full stadium. This is the reason why stadiums are all seaters and haven't got fences up in front of the fans. (maybe the US was different pre '80's? I'm not sure).
This is probably the most used song in football, Liverpool, Celtic (Scotland) and Borussia Dortmund (Germany).
The original is from the 1945 musical Carousel, covered by Liverpool band Gerry and The Pacemakers in 1963 and adopted by LFC soon after and the rest is history.
Side Note....I really miss Steven Gerrard, what a player he was
As a Liverpool supporter I approve of this video

All teams have their own anthem btw. Not songs written FOR the team....they adopt an existing song! 😁
An exception to that ..... Leeds,Leeds ,Leeds..... written FOR the team and the city in the early 70's . The Leeds Utd anthem ,then ,now and always Xx

This is the greatest song ever to represent Liverpool Football Club but also Liverpool as a City, sung by Liverpudlian Gerry Marsden. It’s truly chilling & awesome.
It’s a song for the people of Liverpool, through good times & bad.
The song was originally from the Musical Carousel but it was revitalised by the Liverpool Group Gerry and Pacemakers who did a great version. If you listen at the beginning you can hear Gerry (Marsden) of Gerry and the Pacemakers he was part of the Mersey Sound along with the Beatles!
They were also managed by Brian Epstein and were regularly beating the Beatles in the Merseybeat polls at times. Although the Beatles did one time buy up all the copies to vote for themselves, I think Paul McCartney told the story in a couple of interviews over the years.
An anthem known around the world and associated with the club. It also carries meaning above just football following the Hillsborough disaster (something worth reacting to maybe?). It's now sung both as a means to support the club and to remember those 97 we tragically lost. YNWA 🔴
in the early 60s Gerry and the pacemakers were number one with this tune in the charts for a long time. This tune was heard by the Liverpool fans at halftime when they would run through the top chart tunes and the fans adopted it. As an outside observer, you nailed brother because you felt it (good video mate). Pure electric is felt at most games, but this is next level especially when you consider the history of Liverpool fc and the people of Liverpool. I'm not from there, but i am a Liverpool fc fan. ⚽ YNWA
This game was played in Australia. It makes me so proud as an Aussie.
This original song was sung by Gerry and the Pacemakers.
I can remember the tragedy that happened to the Liverpool Fans. Generally known as the Hillsborough disaster where several fans died.
This tragedy resulted in fans no longer allowed to stand in football stadiums.
They are starting to allow standing areas back in the stadium.

A terrible, terrible day, and for years and years they blamed the LFC fans for those deaths. Please make sure you look up the later videos that vindicated the fans and placed the blame squarely where it lay, with the police and authorities.
RIP
@@Willowsmum My first year at University (1991-1992) I spoke to someone who was there. She was a friend of someone who lived at our house. She said that it was the police at fault not the fans. Her and her family only got bruised but that the experience was terrifying.
The song is from Carousel, the musical. Recorded by Gerry and the Pacemakers, when the Mersey Sound was everywhere in the early 60's. It is never better sung than at Anfield when Stephen Gerrard played his last game and his family joined him on the pitch. The tragedy was Hillsborough if you Google it.. Dreadful. All you need to do is type Hillsborough. Gerrard is the player they show a lot on this film. Adored by all.
The poster is of Bob Paisley, a wonderful manager of Liverpool. Another was Bill Shankley.
Sorry to go on, but big Liverpool fan here
1945 Rogers' and Hammerstein's musical 'Carousel' had this as a song in their production and the British pop group 'Gerry and the Pacemakers' had a hit with it in the 60s which in turn became the theme tune for the Liverpool Football Club. It has been sung so fervently over the decades that the entire British nation knows it's the LFC anthem. Man, when I hear it my eyes sweat!
Bearing in mind these were Australian fans of Liverpool Football Club, this was in Australia.
Pink Floyd used a recording of the Liverpool FC fans chanting "You'll Never Walk Alone" to end their song "Fearless", which appears on the album "Meddle" (1971), considered one of Pink Floyd's classics because it's a transitional album between their early sound and their string of masterpieces in the 1970s. It was just one of their many sonic experiments in the album, and although "Fearless" itself is one of their most conventional songs (if there is such a thing as being "conventional" with Pink Floyd), the surprising transition to Liverpool FC's unofficial anthem at the end was a bold touch and matched the rest of the song perfectly.
The fact that this was in Australia is testament to the LFC fans' connection with this song, especially after their terrible loss at Hillsborough in 1989.
THAT, my friend, is what REAL football means to people...
This song was re-released in 1985 for charity, following the Bradford city stadium fire on the 11th May 1985 which killed 56 fans.
Copy and Paste: You'll Never Walk Alone THE CROWD 1985
Meu sonho é poder um dia assistir um jogo do Liverpool no estádio 🏟 e ouvir essa linda canção dos torcedores.
To stand on The Kop (before seating) and hear everyone around you sing this so passionately, is something you can never forget. It means so much to LFC fans here in Merseyside and around the world. YNWA.
Hi there, ive been a Liverpool fan since i was six and im 53 now. Ive only managed to visit Anfield once for a game. Singing that song before the game was amazing, it now brings chills to my spine even now. Ill never get to go again due to my health but i have that memory
If you want more of that nearly every footy game is in some way like that and England cricket is similar with the barmy army
great thing about this video it shows you how big lfc and the sport of football is in general, this stadium is in Australia literally opposite end off the world to England and Liverpool city
YNWA❤❤️❤️❤️. We love the REDS Gerry and the pacemakers sang the original version and LFC fans adopted as the club anthem. It became even more special and poignant after the Hillsborough disaster on 15th April 1989 when 97 Fans died. If you can Steve I know you would like to look into the meaning of the song and the pride LFC fans feel when they sing it together or alone ❤❤️❤️xxxxxx
During the early 60s the Liverpool crowd would sing songs that were in the UK charts by the Beatles and other Liverpool artists. They began to sing You'll Never Walk Alone by Gerry and the Pacemakers, another Liverpool band, in 1963 but it became so popular that they continued to sing it, even when it went out the charts. The legendary Liverpool manager of the time, Bill Shankly, was in awe of the song and so it became an anthem. As a Liverpool fan, YNWA means EVERYTHING
RIP the 97 😢. Goosebumps from a Coventry and Liverpool fan
Cute team they live in our shadow & always will, but a nice pat on the head for them ☺️ GGMU
Utd aren't even the best team in their own city 🤣🤣🤣
By the way they both have won 66 major titles each but Liverpool have 6 European cups!!! Utd just 3 😁
So what shadow do Liverpool live in? No other club in england can cast a shadow over Liverpool, no matter how much money they spend
☺️ Try beating Brighton first then talk to the Mighty Utd 🦾 A Brighton team who've lost many of their big players, it's so beautiful to see how down you guys are 😆
@@King_Cantona7 yeah try and beat Brentford 4-0 🤣🤣
I think you will find it’s the other way round
The Hillsborough disaster was played out on live t.v. remember being ushered into another room when I was younger by my dad so I did not see it , very , very sad tragic day . That song means a lot more to the people of Liverpool than anyone else .
