  • A ride on the Barcelona's tram (Trambaix system). We'll see a minor one-track line in the suburbs and the seventy-meters wide Diagonal avenue, climbs and curves, villas and skyscrapers, a little bit of historic and much much more of currently used streetcar rolling stock.

Every Mondays to Fridays I take T4 from Pere IV to Selva de Mar (tram besòs) and yes, all is very true in teh video. In general Barcelona tram in my opinion is a fast public transport and confortable. Now they want to join tram baix and tram besòs through the Av Diagonal. I can't wait to see the Tram finished! :))

Then again we mainly used the commuter trains. I never really warmed to the boxy 'grid' layout of the city center though, pretty as it was.. The tram greenway is a very pleasant concept! 🛤🚉

The real problem with the connection of the two trams, is that all the studies show it will not be economically viable. Not the evil car cartel...
There's no demand on the middle stations on the diagonal, and the only route that could make sense (end to end) is too long (1.5h at least).
It can be done, to appear as more green, but It will be a permanent cost to the city.

it's the most densely populated city after Paris of the EU.
Barcelona is extremely small (you will notice if you come) and cars can't circulate everywhere. Public transportation is extremely important for us. it's the city with the largest public transportation network proportionally to population (most km per capita) and still expanding!
This Also leads to public transportation being used indistinctively by the poor and the rich, unlike in Many places where It's seen as something uses only for poor people that do not own a car

when people make the arguments that trams are noisy, they are dangerous, they are environmentally unfriendly, they make the place look ugly I keep thinking "WTF?"
It's simple, they aren't dangerous... you hire people that have no blemishes on their driving record with at least 10 years of heavy vehicle operation, then train them on simulators, then on vehicles with no passengers, then you tell them point blank "if you disobey the road laws... you will not only pay the fine but also won't have income to pay for it... you will be fired, trams and trains only go backwards and forwards, ever had a tram side swipe you? no? stop complaining they are dangerous.
they are ugly? put some panels on it and put on some bright vibrant colours, those panels can make it go from boxy to sleek and sexy, too sexy? put a skirt on her and cover that shameful curves lest those born in the 50's think that showing ankles is that of sinful lust... trams are not the problem? it's the area? the stops? well... pretty up the area and pay some kids to design a good shelter, have an engineer from the DPW do the final calculations to see if it's a safe structure and then install it, have the tram glide on green when it's in areas with a lot of water or have natural creeping plants that don't grow higher than 10cm, open up the area for walking and don't encase it as if it's a high speed rail, showcase it as if it's a gem on a ring.
As for environment... it depends on where you get the power from... if your local area has a tram, take it... I guarantee it will be a nice quiet and comfortable ride.

Three years and the "tram and politics" section is still the same. Fuck the car lobby and weak politicians that bend over. Let's hope that the next mayor is brave like Ada Colau, and keep pushing for change in the meantime. Go to council meetings, specially those of you in the Eixample, they need to hear what the people living there want.

We love our *Tram,* what we don't want is it to expand to un-demanded places with even viability studies or people approval, that is what Ada Colau is doing. I think that before anything, we should finish our "line 9" of the metro, that has been stopped since god knows when, and it would become one of the most viable and demanded lines in our city.
