The rumour is that there is going to be a PLASTIC Warriors of Chaos WAR MAMMOTH!! This is just a rumour but if true!?
Big if true! 🐘
Want!
If true, I hope it's on a base size I can use in my S2D army, like a warshrine or something. I'm not having two warriors of chaos armies. That's far too much trim for one man to paint.
Sure AF hope so!!
That’s one rumor I haven’t heard.
Man, I haven’t been this excited about Warhammer since the launch of 4th edition when my best friend and worked all summer doing odd jobs to pay for each a launch box. He got the Orcs and Goblins, I took thr High elves. We got some heroes as well, and have been playing ever since
Happy holidays!
I only buy pip dice. I do like casino style though
I’m always shocked people prefer Epub. I absolutely love hardcover books. I have a massive collection of Wargaming and Role playing books on the handmade oak shelves in my games room.
I’ve been FIENDING for a new episode, happy holidays lads
Appreciate that so much
Hammerson saw Grombrindal standing upon a broad shield, supported on the shoulders of a one-eyed Slayer and a tankard-carrying ranger. The good eye of the Slayer met his own, and Hammerson felt his growing sadness washed away in a moment of anger. Anger that it had come to this, that all the great works of his people were now as nothing. The fate of the world would be decided elsewhere, by the hands of humans and elves.
For the dwarfs, there was only this. The whole of their history, brought to this point. Hammerson met Grombrindal's gaze, and the White Dwarf nodded slowly. If it must be done, let it be done well, Hammerson thought. Whether they were dead or alive, that was the only way dwarfs knew how to do anything.
And Grombrindal said "10 from the back, yeah?"
I think the saving grace for TOW is it gets to be a specialist design studio game and not carry the revenue expectations that 40k and AoS have.
I agree so much - Rob
Only watched the intro but I have to pause the video and compliment the aggressive sleigh-belling!
Merry Yule
Glædelig Jul! @@SquareBasedOldWorld
1:00 Christmas/Midwinter is Mondstille ("Moaned-shtill-eh").
Geheimnisnacht is sort of an early All Hallows'.
Hexensnacht is New Year's on a similar date as the Chinese one and sort of an early Saint Walpurga's.
Midsummer is Sonnstill. And GW's inconsistency of dropping the final E on this one is driving me mad.
Snack? It's nacht!
Hol up! I literally just read the first thing I found from googling "Warhammer Fantasy Christmas" you're telling me I got it wrong!? How dare you attack my in depth research.
At least I picked the most fun thing to say
Yeah, it’s more like super-halloween
I love to see new artwork for warhammer fantasy. Bring back so many childhood memories, can’t wait to see what else gets released in 2024.
This is the very best thing to ever hit the web!
I ran chaos dwarfs using the Ravening Hordes during 7th edition. I’ll just be happy running my chaos dwarfs and I suspect there will be more in it than the old Ravening Hordes list did.
Hopefully we get ALL the unit entries from 4th/Ravening hordes and Tamurkhan as well as some cool allies and mercs options!! 🤞
Only a few weeks left to wait! I do think it could be more like a few weeks before we get the legacy army PDF’s after launch which would be a shame, but at least most of the models from those factions will be available thanks to the AoS range.
Still waiting on that fabled base size chart though…
We'll have a home grown one for you if one isn't forthcoming
I remember seeing this preview drop on War Com the other day and all I thought is “I can’t wait to see what Rob and Val have to say about this” SQUARE BASED
Oh wow you babe thankyou xx
I missed the live show and had to watch the twitch vod while waiting for this
As always, thank YOU for being Square Based Rob and Val. Great vid guys and hope you had a fantastic Geheimnisnacht!
New drinking game, take a drink every time Val says Geheimnisnacht 😂 by the time you wake up, the game will be released!
GEHEIMNISNACHT!
I'm unbelievably excited to get the tomb kings box. I was introduced to Warhammer fantasy in the early 2000s by a school friend, but due to being in a very conservative/religious household my parents wouldn't allow anything featuring violence... By the time I lived alone the old world was dead, so I thought my dream of owning hundreds of skellys was over, BUT NO LONGER! Now I can relive my childhood of seeing all these cool Egyptian skeletons, except this time I'm building, painting and playing games with them 😊
I am for sure a supporter of blinging up, nothing makes me happier than multiple things all matching the same energy haha
loving that new tomb kings BSB
As a round baser who enjoys the square content as a THWG fan, the real reason i keep coming back is how happy i am for Vals character arc
Its been an interesting few years
circular bases on movement trays work great, no need to deliberately build model to fit next to specific other models in their unit... circular bases allows you to just rotate models until the fit :D
Guys, I never played WHFB but your podcast series has got me so hyped! Gonna run a Brettonian army until I can start a Wood Elves force (and use the allies system between the two). Thank you so much for your content, incredible service for the fans.
Commenting for engagement as I want this to be the number 1 old world podcast/series
352 pages. Can't wait to read that... If only I thought the same about my studies :D
The excitement for a new years emergency podcast after the preorder and release date announcement.
As soon as we can
Waiting intently for all of this! Getting both boxes & all 5 books. Can't wait til the Warriors of Chaos are released!!
Big props for Mall-Grombrindal Val.
Merry Geheimnistag everyone.
Bretonnia will be the only good aligned Faction I'll be collecting, along with all 4 Evil aligned Factions. Warriors of Chaos will be my main tho. I just can't collect a Faction that I don't feel emotionally vested in.
I’m the same way but with Order factions 😂
Red and charcoal marbled dice with gold numbers not pips!? Available in both small and big dice?!
Merry Christmas. That was the most Metal show start I have seen this season 😂
Anyone else notice the huge Orion in the background of the wood elf art? He desperately needs a resculpt, so my bet is on a big new Orion to headline the wood elf box when that eventually drops
Just recently found your YT channel and love it! Really hyped for The Old World - going to get that Tomb Kings box for sure 💀❤💰
#squarebassed
In this episode: Rob reveals how the invisible hand really works!
If it does well, I believe they'll eventually start making new models for Chaos Dwarfs, Dark Elves, Skaven, etc.
Greatest Duo Ever !!! Thanks for all the insight
I'm all in on this! Can't wait for preorders!
Commenting on Rob’s enmity towards my favourite faction the High Elves. 1992 4th Ed Warhammer comes out me and my best friend split the box. He wanted Goblins and I wanted the elves.
To me the high elves were the best link with lord of the rings at the time. We later split the 40K box and I took orks - starting my personal tradition of bad guys in 40K and good guys in fantasy. As I read the army books and stories I found the duality with dark elves (which I also collected) fascinating. They are the Yin to each others Yang if that makes sense.
The high elves are outwardly bright and noble but carry a deep seated darkness of conceitedness and pride which is the race’s ‘tragic flaw’ (and quite possibly the curse of Slaanesh / Khaine). Dark elves are outwardly evil but have a core of martial honour that stops them tipping over into complete anarchy. To me High Elves should be the poster boys of the game. They are highly maritime (another reason I like them - I love to sail) and travel around the whole old world trying to stop Chaos.
Another reason I like High Elves is if you asked me where in the Old world I’d want to live I’d have to say one of the high elf cities you know you’re going to have somewhere to live that doesn’t smell of 💩 constantly.
I jokingly dont like high elves. I ( Rob ) had High and Dark elves. They are very very cool
@@SquareBasedOldWorld Rob I think you might be a similar vintage to me. I devoured the Dragonlance novels, in particular the Brothers Majere, around the time I got into Warhammer. The story of Raistlin and Caramon is very similar to Tyrion and Teclis (who both should be in TOW technically although at a lesser power level) I wonder if you were into those books too?
I started at 4th edition and found those models as well as some other armies whilst visiting my folks for geheimnisnacht. Hopefully a restoration project will be nostalgic way to get a starting force out there for this game.
This is why I loved ❤ the Cursed Company because every model the lead hero killed made a new member of the Cursed Company so the unit had Dwarf, Elves, Beastmen, Gobbos and Chais Warrior Skeletons 😂😂😂
Can we please have an emergency episode on the new interactive map on the old world page? Could be exciting hints for future direction on there!
Super excited as well! I'm pre-ordering both boxes.
I wonder what will be the future of Skaven if they do or do not redo them in Aos next year...
They are 100% doing them for AOS 4
Yeah, the rumours on Skaven are too persistent not to be real.
I have about 2800 points (8th edition points)of Skaven that I need for build and paint for TOW. I got them at a flgs near me that was going out of business and sold me all of his stock that could be used in Fantasy for 1000$. I got at least 2500$ worth of Fantasy models. I gave away both a Dark Elves and Ogres army to friends for xmas this year because I already own large forces of both.
I'm just wondering what their support will be for Old World in year 2 as with other legacy lists, hope for the best, prepare for worst
@@Stonehorn
Skaven are for AoS, it's why they received AoS releases. TOW just gets a free pdf file that won't use certain units like Stormfiends.
I can honestly say I'm cool with it. I will be able to field the dwarf army I want with the models I want (much better looking 3d printed dwarfs!) So I personally have to say ty GW!
Can we do an episode to review best 3d print proxies for each faction??
JIM. HUGE FAN. that's on the list
Also still waiting to hear your robust resin mix Rob!
My friend uses numbers for HH and I love it
i am very much a round based fan who enjoys some square based content. although if they do bring out a Kislev range I may have to remortgage.
Kislev would rock
Excellent stuff, love you guys. Exciting times!
Love you too man! Fuck I gotta remember to name check your channel next week.
Info just went up, lots of good stuff to be preordered on the 6th!
So exciting
This podcast is the best Christmas present.
It is crazy to me that you can't get Demigryph knights, they were basically brand new sculpts when the old world blew up!
Great show as always
I have been printing a Chaos dwarfs army ready for launch or when we have rules
Id love to see. love Chaos Dwarves
Thanks fella’s- feeling pumped for ALL THE BOOKS game.
I have a feeling that things like the bombard and the special characters will be done the same way forge world does necromunda upgrade kits and dramatis personae in a slow roll out.
Re the dice.
The description of the dice in the old world starter sets match the bag of dice that comes in the Legions Imperialis starter set.
Also, the template sprue looks identical as well.
Happy New Year 🎆
Great show Rob and Val! My favorite part of TOW is probably the new 2D art/painitings. The boxart and book covers look awesome! I hope GW paid the artists properly and these are not AI generated.
Would be really cool if GW comissioned new TOW art to some of the oldtime greats, like Dave Gallagher, Adrian Smith, Karl Kopinski, Paul Dainton, etc.
I am definitely excited for the good guys/bad guys books. There is a reason my phones notes section is full of D&D characters I will literally never get to play. Getting to sit down and just theory craft 100s of lists I'll hopefully...eventually make maybe 2 of is what I'm here for.
I'm a little gutted that the tomb king base skellies haven't had a refresh given thatr they are nearly 30 years old, but am thinking of getting back into the hobby for the first time in 15 years. Will buy the books and see if I shall start up a tomb kings army
Infairness, plenty of alternatives for them these days.
I can't bring myself to by old models. I've run seraphon and the new models are so good in comparison is have a bit of disdain for the old models.
@@markbedwell3100 Do you have any suggestions? The examples I've found seem to be resin and have erports of being incredibly fragile. I've been out of the hobby so long I'm not sure if I'm even looking in the right place.
@@zeferous130 I use the sunlu resin myself, the abs stuff is fairly good. Avoid water washable. I run an Etsy store sell highlands and avatars of war so I can probably help a fair bit
Love this show so much! Just a thought about the movement trays you guys are doing, any chance there will be a Lance formation tray?
Well I have my old school Realm of Chaos Slaves to Darkness book so will be bringing my Daemon army ready to rock!
Those books are just too beautiful! If anything, GW is a book company first!
Great show - maybe even the best yet!
Thats so kind of you thankyou
Ive listened to every episode back to back for the last two nights, so glad to get a new episode! The last time I played WFB was with a Slann army, I for one welcome the upcoming midlife crisis fuelled by ToW
My main concern is actually being able to buy it before its sold out, add to that if the old models will be direct to store order only which is going to be rather expensive..
Great pod!
Fun fact. Geheimnistag is actually warhammers Halloween when the chaos moon is in the sky and the veil is thin.
Christmas is celebrated but it's called Mondstille. To celebrate, they eat a huge meal as a sign of recognising that the winter is over and spring is coming, and to welcome the gods Taal and Rhya back from slumber. They also recount bad things that have happened to them in the year so it doesn't happen again. Finally, a Taal log is kept burning for the week. If it goes out its an ill omen. Nobles in Altdorf have started giving gifts, which has resulted in others starting to follow suit.
I love Warhammer Fantasy and I'm hyped for more of it. I really like the old minis and it's so refreshing to hear people positively talking about it. Too many are extremely negative just because the models are old.
Oh we slag on the old models too! Just we still love the game.
And ffs I swear there are a lot of different answers to what Warhammer Christmas is. Next time I'll Google longer than 30s
On the plus side, you have a perfect joke for Halloween!
I always want to get Bretonnai army back when I was in high school.
Was looking forward to getting Vampire Counts army but no rules for them.
Just hope in 2 year time we get them.
Really looking forward to building Night Goblin and Dwarfen Mountain army at some point.
Great video and a new sub from me. 👍
Hey thanks! To be clear - they will be getting complete rules. Just not rereleased models or an arcane journal
@@SquareBasedOldWorld Thank you for the information.
I did read a report that they like to do all the factions as they move the timeline long.
But it all down to how well the game does in the long run.
epic intro. kudos
Val’s our pal. Good vid guys, Cheers
He's the best
Based & Squared Pilled here lads.
I’ll be happy getting the books if I can’t get one of the Box sets.
Would be pretty sweet if they create new armies of infamy for campaign books. New ways to play the same army as long as it doesn’t turn into how 40k was with their specialized armies.
I think some limited addition rules for flavour over restrictive army lists
Dread Saurian please
I am thinking that the new Cities of Sigmar range could make a great Bretonian "rogue army" that uses gunpowder and such.
definitely could fit into the border princes couldn't they?
Dice made from actual square bases. I have a load of old 20mm bases that can be used.
Whilst you were talking about some factions not getting support, I was taking a look at the AoS Vanguard boxes as seeing which ones work as defacto starter boxes for W:ToW and using 8th ed points to see what you get.
High Elves: Lumineth (Noble, Mmm age, Spearmen, Archers & Swordmaster - 500 points)
Warriors of Chaos: Slaves to Darkness (Exalted Hero, Warriors, Chariot, Knights - 700 points) OR Blades of Khorne (Exalted Hero, Warriors, Marauders, Bloodcrushers - 6-700 points)
Orcs & Goblins (Night Goblin Boss, Night Goblins, Squighoppers, Trolls - 400 points)
Beasts of Chaos needs them to bring Dragon Ogres back into the Beastman list, and Dwarfs need all Slayer lists to be doable with the Fyreslayers.
And then there's the renegade factions : Vampire Counts (Soulblight Gravelords), Lizardmen (Seraphon), Ogre Kingdoms (Ogor Mawtribes), Skaven (Skaven...if you use the big lads as Rat Ogres).
The point is, GW arent releasing lots if new stuff because there is a ton of support already in place.
Id imagine that a knowledgeable and crafty CZcams channel might be able to nake some content out of guiding new players through this labyrinth.
That's what I'm talking about!
The cavalry bases are the same size as the skeletons. They look to to be on 25mm or 30mm bases
Same with Bretonnia's moving up from 20mm to 25mm base size.
What I really like about your discussion here, is the advocating of using various means to create your armies. Because these days it is more than possible ... and there are so many cool options . not only of looks etc but also for playability and strategy. By Games Workshop releasing the rules, with no immediate possible way to purchase the models directly from them, it is in a sense liberating. If tournaments what to host Old World Tournaments, they will be almost obligated to allow "anything" really, as far as models go. And that opens so many doors for building interesting and unique looking armies. I don't actually think this is GW's plan .. but by talking about it the way you two do, it helps to cement that in. Because that's what many people want to do. GW : ..'Hey, here's some cool new models we designed that you can purchase in a nice box set with rules, tools etc ... buy them and have fun .. and fill up everything else you need however you feel best!' is really an ideal future.
Keep dressing up as the White Dwarf until the preorder day! :) (Isn't that the White Dwarf costume?)
I’m 99% sure there are multiple artillery dice in my dice bucket Plus the scatter dice from previous editions.
*Laughs in uses smaller dice due to rolling 60+ large ones takes to much space*
Is anyone a member of the discord? I’m in a 40K discord and I’ve made a load of gaming buddies through it in my local area, looking for something similar with old world!
we have a discord for our patreon
I understood the miniature releases for other factions as being new minis.
I mean some new minis sure. But I'd be super surprised by anything more substantial than what we saw for TK and Brets
@@SquareBasedOldWorld Oh agreed.
Given we know the Armies that are being focused on. What do you think the release schedule will be? And which armies get the focus first?
I'm super excited to bring my dwarfs out to play in the old world.
I'm also hyped to build a legacy faction that I can play in both AoS.
Im also really liking the way the book structure is looking for the old world much better than the 40k way of it.
Just hopping in to say thanks for the great content!
I discovered the cast a couple of days ago after getting very excited for Old World.
So in an attempt to find something to distract me from rebasing my Ogres, I’ve binged every episode just in time for this new one dropping whilst decorating my office 😅
Keep up the great work!
Also really cool to hear little snippets of Rob talking about his ADHD over the episodes. As a fellow ADHD gamer, it’s cool to see someone like me excited for a big book I’ll buy and probably never manage to read all the way through 😅
Don't rebase those ogres!! They're probably the only cross over army in the game!
@@SquareBasedOldWorld #BeSquareBeThere
I'm printing my night goblins at Joytoy scale and no one can stop me
Joytoy is still a term that makes me giggle
Spectacular as always.
Think you guys would write your own armies of infantry for the renegades? Would be interesting for the community to flesh that side out.
I'm sure others may try but probably not our particular forte or place. We'll probably focus on crafting an enjoyable tournament format / mission set.
@@SquareBasedOldWorld I'm hoping to get a gaming space, so having a tournament ruleset to follow (and movement trays to buy!) is valuable.
If I had even an ounce of common sense, I’d be looking at JUST THE BOOKS. But as time goes on, I’m getting more itchy for the Bretonnians. I’ve got Dwarves and Orcs&Goblins in totes in the game room. Some Tomb Kings still in the boxes. And a tiny bit of Empire.
I'm not not going to discourage anyone from reckless buying decisions. This is a co-dependency podcast
happy gurhiemingsnack or what ever its called, lol. - happy xmas
Gw games used to come with 12mm dice
Not trying to fill anyone with hopium, but given GWs often ambigious wording, is it possible the reference to "miniature releases for the other seven factions in due course" meant new miniatures and not the returning ones? That's how I read it anyway.
No, they have been very clear from the beginning it would mostly be old models with a few new sculpts.
@@Stonehorn ah no, I mean there seems to be some concern that only the Bretonnia and Tomb Kings ranges (old and new) will be available at launch, andd that the other factions will only be rereleased later
The price is rumoured to be £170.00... might seem expensive per box, but looking at the number of models the Tomb King box contains 88% of two battalions (completely identical models minus one unit of chariots), but also includes 20 dice, 1x scatter die, all 3 templates, and full hardback rulebook and reference sheets,
and transfer sheets... for skeletons... for some reason...
still very hyped for Old World ^^
Also the unit entries will list the intended bas sizes for each model... so that's easy to follow
Artillery and scatter? Must have a dozen.
12mm dice for everything, erry-day!
While I'm not personally impacted by what looks like a rolling release schedule, it has put a little damper on our launch plans to get an escalation league rolling. At least a few people intended to pick up factions that simply don't have models they're happy with available and won't really be able to jump in on day one which is kind of a drag. I think for folks who are dead set on GW official, say, Wood Elves, it's a pretty big bummer to just be left out in the breeze.
I think thats really fair which is why we mentioned it. Big yikes!
All the MESBG books are available as epubs, so it's something they've done before.
That's so cool!!!
i hope the epub versions of the books are a reasonable discount over the physical versions. I have no problem supporting a hobby i enjoy, but if its 1:1 pricing Physical:epub it'll be really hard to want to give them money
Lot of dryads out there with decent options
Definitely B.B.B.
(Although i agree with Val that its teal, and tomb king-ish)
B.T.B baby
Does books only mean visiting wahapedia? Because I've been buying up Scibor dwarves, and will have a pdf thanks.
Hey that'll work too.
Hey Val, I’m from Toronto as well. When I use to play I use to go to hobby kingdom in Burlington to game. Do you have any spots in the GTA where people are planning to play the old world?
Hey there! Public spots are hard to come by within the actual city. There's a 6th Ed following for the most part at sword and board (but I'm not a big fan of that dank dank space) there's also a much better space at Guild House nearer to Bathurst/ St Clair.
Aside from that you're going outside the city. My fav in the East is escaping me rn and in Mississauga near Dixie and 401 is X Planet... Operated by my main man Lionel, who is a square based hater and would be excellent to troll by making tOW very popular at his store.
Also if you're not a total weirdo and just a normal Warhammer weirdo - feel free to look me up on FB or the discord!
@@SquareBasedOldWorld I actually use to play at X Planet as well, Lionel is a really good guy. I’m probably gonna grab all my old world stuff of him. Thanks for the reply and maybe I’ll run into you at a tourney or something there. Cheers!
