Yep, also here for the same reason. lol
The 90s retro-60s aesthetics were amazing.
Yeah but the song is kinda a criticism of that is it not? “The fashion is smashing the true meaning of it.”
It’s because in the 90’s there was a lot of nostalgia for the 60’s, same in the 80’s for the 50’s. Today there’s nostalgia for the 80’s and 90’s.

When I was 12-13 years old and it was the late 90s, this was a grooving tune. As someone who grew up on classic rock, Smashmouth was a 90s band I actually enjoyed. Thanks for the memories, Steve and RIP.

I wasn't a big fan of Smash Mouth, but Walkin' On The Sun has one of the most irresistible grooves of all time.

One of my favorites from the 90's.
That organ
That groove is from the 60’s it’s from “When the music’s over” by The Doors. Both are great songs
This song always was one of those that made you want to hear it again and again as soon as you first heard it. I remember thinking at the time it was released that musically(in terms of instruments, tones, and the arrangement) that it sounded very much like late 1960’s music of The Doors…which I also really like. An instant classic from Smashmouth! Thank you Steve for the great music.
I was 10 years old and in middle school when this album released. We used to go on field trips each year and the bus rides were usually a couple of hours long. The year this came out, I remember my dad sending me on the bus with his Sony Walkman CD player and a pouch full of albums. This was one of them. I listened to this song on repeat for hours on end both there and back, and for years after. It's been a while since I've listened, but here I am again after so long, grooving along to what is still, IMO, their best song. RIP Steve.
Given the funky pop vibe I understand how massively understood this group is. The messages are so simple yet so deeply profound within each individual! What a miracle these guys are!

This song was so far ahead of its time while also encapsulating imagery and awareness of the decades past. It was an anomaly in the hard-rock dominated late 90s and will always be a classic. RIP!

First, R.I.P. to Steve Harwell. This song always will always will have special place in my heart. I was really huge jazzbo; stuff like Miles Davis, Ornette Coleman, Wes Montgomery, Grant Green, etc... Then I heard this song in the summer of '97. All my friends hated it, but I loved the vibe and the ambience of the spring reverb guitars and warmth the vocals and drums. This track feels like a beautifully hot summer day with an unmatched brilliance to it. Novel yet very classy.
I also owe this band a massive thank you for getting me into experimental lounge music specifically the group Tipsy! - a Bay Area duo that was also incredibly amazing for its time. I always wish they would have collaborated together and made some weird experimental lounge madness together. Stay Fresh!

It was 1999, one of the few memories I have as a 3 year old is driving around in my Dad’s convertible on a sunny summer California day and All Star comes on the radio and my Dad and sister are teasing me because apparently it’s my favorite song and I lose it whenever I hear it. @@cosmosaic8117 I hear ya but as someone who was born in 1980 and a teenager through most of the early and late 90s, I just feel like voice of a generation isn't really appropriate for Steve Harwell. Smash Mouth's 'Walkin' On The Sun' offers a thorough analysis of the collapse of late 20th century American counterculture, attributing it to both the commercialization of the alternative lifestyle and the devastating intergenerational effects of drug abuse. In this essay, I will
Actually it’s about the race riots
@@InkfinityOkamix3 Says the band in some interview, but the lyrics reference the commercialization of 60's counterculture mostly. It seems like they are alluding to the LA Riots in the last set of lyrics "New is on at 10, your neighborhood is under attack" and "handkerchief is soaked in tears because her baby's life has been revoked". The message seems to be basically that counterculture is cylindrical and that it becomes just another stupid trend before it ever starts to make any real difference. Occupy Wall Street, SJWs and The Tea Party might be good modern examples. The start off genuine, but the get co opted by posers and those with ulterior motives, such as Coca Cola's "By The World a Coke" ad or Pepsi's infamous Black Lives Matter protest ad.

@@Il_Exile_lI really?? This was a number 1 single, on the ALL GENRE FORMAT hot 100!!! Selling out was impossible, they were already sold. This album was just as formulatic as Astro Lounge.
