Last year for the first time in decades I stayed at a resort. The Beloved an Excellence property was simply wonderful and now I’m hooked on resort travel and the Excellence brand.
This year I’m going to do something different.
I booked a 15 day stay at the Excellence Punta Cana at the end of December for my anniversary. I’m splitting the stay between three different room types.
First, I’m doing a swim out, next the terrace with a plunge pool ocean view and then I’m doing the Excellence club private pool.
Being the airfare is so expensive from NYC I figured I’d make the most use of my time at a resort.
I decided to stay at just one resort vs switching to another because I didn’t want the hassle and wanted the full experience of this resort.
I know you are at El Carmen but when I looked at the El Carmen’s layout I really didn’t like it.
I’m a beach lover and El Carmen's beach is at one end of the property where most of the Excellence Club rooms are and so are the restaurants etc. So it seems like there is a lot of walking to get to those key areas if you get a standard room. The campus seems almost to spread out for me.
When I looked at the Excellence Punta Cana, the layout is so wonderful with everything lined up against the beach. The way the main pool is set up looks fantastic. I think this will just fit me much better. I’m an older person, but active and I didn’t want to spend my vacation walking all over the place to get to where I have to go.
I already live in a high-rise, so I didn’t want to go to someplace like El Carmen that looks similar to my building or a college campus.
But to each their own.
I simply love the large rooms and large private pools at El Carmen, but for me it doesn’t outweigh the brilliant way the Excellence Punta Cana is designed .
So I would say for older folks, perhaps the Excellence Punta Cana might be a better fit.
Just wanted to give another perspective of someone in an older age group.

I'd change your stay. Don't do more than 6 days in one resort. No point. You'll genuinely get bored. Even 5nights is too much. Split up 3 resorts if you are doing that many days.
Entertainment etc is the same rota every 7 days
Here at El Carmen now with just an Excellence Junior suite for our Honeymoon and really enjoying it so far. Can only imagine

We just stayed on RM 6212 and it had an amazing view of the beach and ocean. We had a great time at Excellence El Carmen. We always want to try new places, but if we wanted to return to a place we had already been, this is the place to go. 🍹
Went to Excellence Punta Cana in May 2023 for 10 days with my wife for our honeymoon. We passed El Carmen and I can say we love the Excellence properties!

I like the room service tray area where they can come get your used tray! Great idea!
same. I stayed at sandals south coast last march and they just want you to put the tray outside on the ground. trays would sit there hours, sometimes overnight. the cats and bugs would pick at them... kinda gross

James you ain't lying when you say that you need to reserve with plenty of time. I tried to book a swim up suit in excellence El Carmen back in May for a date in late September and no luck. I decided to book a swim up suit in finest.

In the first half of this room tour I was feeling, "............I mean it's nice for what it is but, that's it Excellence?"
And then once you transitioned to the outdoor portion of the room, I was all, "Ah-ha, that's it! NOW I see why this room is the real deal Holyfield!". 😊

They have so many different room types - swim outs , private pools, private with deck.. and on & on.... 😊. I stayed last year in junior suite swim out. To me, that room is better then this honeymoon suite🤔. Enjoy🍸

@@audreyrose1694 James aka Coolist was in a Swim out honeymoon suite. I stayed in an Excellence Swim-out junior suite. The Junior swim out looks better & more spacious to me is all 🤷 .
No partition separating bedroom from living, but the room & walk in closet was huge. Of course his honeymoon suite is also beachfront if one cares. The Junior suite was not beachfront.

I was just there two weeks ago and had a fabulous time. BTW, they absolutely DO NOT charge for the bottles. They even replaced my bottle of Barcelo...yes, we drank it all!

Hey James. I was at El Carmen 2 weeks ago. If you're still there, ask Joan at the Martini Bar to make you a coconut martini. He's awesome. Can't wait to hear your opinion on the place.
2 Story rooms with Rooftop are much better at that property and much more private with a rooftop pool.
We stayed in the exact some room just 3 over on the corner. Not private at all for a honeymoon suite. Had people using the side of our private area pool to walk around on to get to their room in the middle. It was annoying. Not very private like he mentioned. The room was ok. Everything felt so dated and a bit old and run down. Even had an AC leak and water drained every where in the bathroom. They gave us one free night for the inconvienence, but we have not come back. Nice beach , and we were in the preferred club , so had good privacy on the beach in the preferred club area. You can walk up and down the beach to stores and other places of attraction. About a 45 minute drive from the airport through a not so good area. We are thinking we will try a different , more up dated all inclusive in the future in PUNTA CANA. Nice place, but I was expecting so much more.
Hi James, I was there a couple of weeks ago, and booked because of your previous Excellence Punta Cana review....... Couple of suggestions:
Drinks: Palms Bar- Electric Lemonade, Martini Bar- Citrus martini
Food: The Grill: Shrimp Ceviche, Magna: Tomahawk Steak.....
Also, walk to the right on the beach past Finest resort to Tropical Treasures and get a fantastic $30 (1 hour) massage....

Folks, I am going to Punta Cana on August 14th. Is is now too early to boot private transfer from the airport?
Some weird audio issue with this one. Seems to be only transmitting the left side.
we had a free upgrade from ocean view junior suite EC to this due to a smell in the room, it was nice being so close to the beach. the only negatives about this resort would be the food, weak-ish AC in the room, and towels being a rarity sometimes by the pools and beach.
the food all looked good, but flavor was meh. there was no real lobster to be found in any of the restaurants, just langoustines. the tomahawk steak had too many tough tendons. the French restaurant was imo better than magna, the EC exclusive restaurant. service was great for the most part except for one of the waiters at the lobster house.
shoutout to ricky at the excellence club lounge for the service and mixology. this would be the best resort in PC if you're not into partying and if the room rates were lower.
Get back to Vegas!
They should have curtains outside for privacy.

The Room with Private Pool and Deck is the best room they have, and half the price of this one! You get a full private backyard and huge size private pool

Maybe he’s booked both resorts at the same time and doing duel reviews. El Carmen and Finest are right next door to each other. He could literally just walk back and forth between the resorts.
@@ayalave75 Getting 2 rooms at the same time makes no sense. I would rather get 1 room at a time for a total of 6 days than get 2 rooms at the same time for a total of 3 days.
He did say he forgot he booked the room so I guess he could have booked both accidentally.
i would also prefer 2 three day stays over booking two resorts at the same time, but i doubt you or i could afford to book the amount of resorts he has in Punta Cana. Money doesn’t appear to be a concern of his. Im sure he has limited time and a system that works for him. I’ve been to El Carmen twice. In fact we were just there in June. I was kind of surprised he hasn’t talked about the free transport to and from the airport. Excellence has a fleet of decked out suburbans that they use to transport their guests to and from the resort. It surprises me he hasn’t mentioned the perk or show it in either video. It’s quiet the experience. It was by far the nicest vehicle we had been transported to a resort in. It just makes me wonder why.
@@ayalave75 He books his own transportation because he doesn't like shared rides. He also sticks to the same company so he probably did not even use the inclusive Excellence transportation.
I guess that would make sense if you were sharing a ride with someone else, but your not. All their guests get their own suburban. It doesn’t appear he packed a suitcase this time, i wonder why?

That resort is for old people or people who just want some quite time food is so so best restaurant is the French one the Indian food was a joke along with most of the other way over priced for what it is had a swim up was nice but honestly way to much for how boring it is and mediocre food and drinks I travel a ton.. also the beach so so
