  • Navigation lights are an essential part of boat safety whether you fish or night of go boating. We don't do allot of night fishing yet but plan to in 2021. I went with these strip lights because they are VERY bright and look really cool :). I filmed this video about seven months ago. During that time, I've had a chance to learn a few things. At the end of this video, I’ll share a mistake I made which damaged one of the light strips and I will also share an additional mod I did after filming this video. The navigation light installation was pretty simple. Stay tuned for future jon boat conversion vids!!!

The lights are not nav legal because they are isolated. An approaching vessel at your 7 0clock will not even see your red light and not know to yield right of way. Front nav lights by law have to be visible from dead ahead to 112.5 degrees aft. You should wrap the corner to achieve that. The stern light shines aft and 67.5 degrees forward so there is ligh visible 360 degrees around your boat so the oncoming vessel can interpret the proper way. Accident waiting to happen. The pole light is not necessary by law. Your work is 100 percent quality and I would hate an accident on the water. Keep up the great videos. 5200 sealant will stick an A1 ABRAMS tank in place, good stuff.

@@BassBrothersFishingDMV Please dont take my post the wrong way. I love your videos and really admire a man that does top notch rigging like you do. Has your brother done a review on his new shearwater kayak yet as I am thinking of buying one. If not I am looking at a Bass raider. I sold my bass boat in 2016 and I have the itch.Happy new year.

As a lifelong, avid boater I noticed the same thing immediately. Like Ken - I love your build, and only have kudos to give for your effort and workmanship!
      BUT... :)
Navigation lights are *very* important to have done correctly and to regulation, because they will let other boaters know from a long way away not just that you are there, but also where you are heading (or not), and even what kind of vessel you are.
Another vessel should be able to see one of your colored lights *and* a white light, unless they are directly behind you. That is the reason for the angles of visibility being more than 90 degrees on the red/green, and the pole light (which *is* required, for forward visibility) - to have a white light showing from the aft end of the boat which can be seen from ahead. The pole light can also serve, on it's own, as your 360-visible anchor light.
Hit the link below for a good and not too lengthy description of how you should get those lights set up, for your safety, the safety of others, and - to avoid tickets from DNR or the USCG, if you haven't already (I'm still watching/listening). :)
Again, thanks for the ideas and inspiration - I have a 1236 I'm building out - and wishing you plenty of tight lines and sore fishlips! :D

Just came across your video. I've been looking for a way to put lights on my 12 ft. Coleman Crawdad and your system just might be what I was looking for. Those rear light strips will be a plus for backing the trailer down the ramp in the dark. Awesome job, sir!

Convinced me to do it myself. New SUB and LIKE.
