This may be a weird idea, but I think splashes of gold could really do wonders for your base
I feel like he's gone a bit too all in with the blue-green and black to make it work with gold too
Yeah it looks a bit too blue for me
Oh yes, I agree! I love what he has done so far tho, but indeed a bit of gold or non-oxidised copper will give everything a bit more contrast
Maybe like gilded blackstone could be pretty cool, since it’s just a taste of gold, not like gold blocks
YAAAAAAAAAS
I really love these types of slow burner episodes where we can actually see you come up with everything behind the process. It makes you feel a lot more human than someone who just magically knows all the answers, and makes the episodes so much more enjoyable for me.
Wow the bots are really advancing, using british words like cheers
I like the slower pace episodes too, but I also like the fast paced super chaotic ones that keep me smiling all the way through.

@@anoneemusnoename4192 Holy cow friend you have some strong opinions about this. I personally disagree, but that just means we have different interests and that’s fine. I personally like to see more of the process because it helps me improve my own building skills, but I understand that’s not for everyone. (Actually, watching the process is the thing that got me watching Grian and through him Mumbo and the other hermits.)
I’m not saying this to try and start an argument or something, I’m just providing a counterpoint. Honestly, I hope the creators continue to make content you like just as I hope they also make content I like, even if they are different types of content.
@Anoneemus Noename You can have opinions, and congrats, you know what you like. What you are saying though is an opinion, a rude one as a matter of fact.
Between Mumbo's vertical industrial district and Grian's plan to fill his rocks with farms, their base areas are going to be really laggy.
Never laggier than Scar's, so many entities...

The reason why his base felt so much smaller was because the red outline gave contrast to the blue-green valt and getting rid of the red made it blend into the green trees and grass.
And the fact that the template was on a lower plane made the vault pop. Perspective is one hell of a design element
Mumbo builds a really cool looking base and the first thing he tells us is: "Now I can do little jumps all over my base!"
Right!
@Don't Read My Profile Picture you really pushed the joke far
Priorities straight.
To justify the high pressure jets of water that are holding up your base, you should build heavy duty pipes and ground equipment underneath the pillars. I love the idea of this machine that extends deep underground to turn geothermal energy and underground lakes into jets of water that keep the vault elevated. This could support the previously suggested idea of shooting items from farms below ( in the machine ) up through the pillars in bubble elevators to the vault ( and presumably sorting system ) above. Edit: removed duplicate wording
He should make one random pillar a secret entrance or something, it would be quite rizzlious (Edit: it could be an access point to get to his vault!)
I like this idea! Gonna be copper blocks everywhere for a while though 🤣
So he basically has pressure washer pillers?
@@thecrazycapmaster and then Grian is gonna wax them 💀
Maybe he could have single glass panes inside the water to break up the texture
I'm actually really glad you showed us your building process. Oftentimes, it's "I want to build this so TIME LAPSE!", and while it is usually really enjoyable, the step by step and experimenting is more helpful in my opinion because I learn by watching, copying, and then making it my own.
I'm honestly chuffed to bits lol
I actually prefer this behind the scenes thought process style video because it lets me know what to expect instead of having to guess. Then I can look forward to things and imagine what you were going for in my head.
Honestly, when you get this far into a Hermitcraft season, things start to feel OVERWHELMINGLY fast at times. Entire structures built in short timelapses. Having you share your creative process with us brings that early minecraft/early hermitcraft spark that tends to get lost in the later episodes. Please feel free to do this whenever you'd like. I really enjoy it.
I always look forward to each new upload. :)
Agreed
I really like when hermits actually go through their builds and not just do time lapses every time.
@Klipche Gaming i know, but I'm just saying this format is more common in the earlier episodes than the later ones & its refreshing to see this far into the season.
I noticed that a lot of hermitcraft creators almost seem to burn out, or at least get close to it, towards the end of each season. I've wondered for a while if this is related to them cramming more and more in per episode the longer the season runs for. I by far prefer the slightly slower format. It feels much more relaxed, more comfortable.
yep
As someone who wants to get better at building in minecraft, but majorly struggles with visualizing it and translating what's in my head to something in front of me, I do like seeing you talk about your plans and your thoughts as you are. It makes me feel like this is something I could do too.
me too, in my head nothing has to actually..look like anything?? i can see an idea but i also have absolutely no idea what anything actually looks like, the shape, the colour and materials even
I LOVE seeing your thoughts on designing. Wouldn't mind more episodes like this at all! Also, before you put the water in the pillars I was thinking it'd be cool with a lava pillar. Maybe alternate?

I also remember watching a bunch of your redstone videos where you built something really random that worked out really well, and said something along the lines that you wouldn’t mind having something like it on hermitcraft, I think a base centered around all sorts of contraptions like that would be a lot of fun. Honestly a hermitcraft tower would be a kinda cool concept, like what they did on the other server, just like 20 megabases meshed into one lagging out the server
6:50 Do I enjoy you sharing your creativity and how your mind works and how you build?.. YES, YES I DO. This is the type of stuff regular (noob=me) Minecraft players struggle with and seeing/hearing all your considerations and thought processes not only helps us grow our skills, it also helps you appear more human/like us and helps to make us feel involved and included in the process. So YES! Please keep doing this
Maybe for the Water Pillars, you could add End Rods running through the middle, to give the water a "Mystic" Glow haha
That could be cool. My first thought was sea lanterns, but I think it would have the same problem as the stone blocks. He could also stagger the rods, instead of having one solid line of them, break them up. It would add to the mystical-ness.
I was thinking just leave the center as air.
Hope he sees this
or maybe put them in the four corners?
Or stagger them, so it looks like they're floating, not lines
you & grian basing by each other with these builds is brilliant. the "light airy organic" right across from the "dark metallic geometric" makes _both_ builds look even cooler.
I really enjoyed watching you think through the build process. Just hangin out with Mumbo, eating lunch and watching him expand his vault. Good times.
An idea for the legs: You could use lines of blue glass to show a force/connection between the upper and lower parts, presumably holding the upper part up. An extra idea: one could be broken and cause a gap in the bridge.
16:58 mumbo has built another among us person lol.
if i had a nickel for every time i had seen this happen i'd have two nickels, which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice.

I love the idea of the vertical industrial area! I remember Impulse's superchunk and that was awesome! And I love that you are so excited about it as well!

This was such a great video! I learned some great tips for planning out builds to make it easier to go modular. Honestly, I'd love to see more hermits doing this slower style with sharing the build process. It's every bit as entertaining, but it also helps my own builds a ton! Only thing I miss are Mumbriascar shenanigans!
So nice to know that sustainable base plans are back!
Lol ‘sustainable’
Water pillars are looking very cool. It looks futuristic, ancient and mythical at the same time.
Yea, like some kind of power beam holding it up. Very nice.
Water = power beam
Power beam = bridge support
Water pillar would look good in a different shape like a circle and with beacon beams coming out the middle
Agreed! But lava would be so much more evil, and that’s what he’s going for right?

Mumbo instead of water holding up the pillars, to keep the sinister vibe you coiuld replace it with lava. It may not go with the aged copper but I think normal copper would go quite well. You could even have "pipes" that come from underground that are the source of lava. Idk tho just an idea ❤
Honestly this video is a great example of what I like about your vids

Go be with your dad
14:09 What if you made it with alternating water and lava coloumns? I think that would be an interesting, beautiful yet dangerous option.
yes, yes it would
i think a good idea is that instead of terraforming the ground beneath your base, you could make it like with UFO's keeping it in place and such. The high Tech stuff would make the base look a lot more "evil" and would allow for more fancy redstone stuff.
Love the water pillars, add soul sand to give them some animation and activity instead of placing anything inside. Keep up the great work 😊
he can only have soul sand inside, since he would need all water to be sources otherwise
The bubbles only work with water source block. It doesn't add bubbles to flowing water.
Mumbo! That bit about compromise has been the healthiest thing I’ve heard about creating. It was such wonderful insight, and I needed it. I’m glad your break and travels treated you so well. I’m glad you have a healthier view for your creative talents.
“Comparison is a theft of progress” is another one I learned that I think is important for you.
You are a hermit, you don’t need to be like the other hermits :)
Love, love, LOVE seeing the planning and “behind the scenes” content. It makes me as a viewer feel more “a part of,” and I think it also gives me the opportunity to learn how to build and come up with ideas of my own. Thank you for sharing with us.
Is it because you enjoy a couple colored squares or like it for the sake of it being different?
I always like when one of the hermits does a more behind the scenes episodes it's nice to see the thought process behind the designs
I love seeing you talk through the building. It's one of those things I love as a creative (us programmers and coders call it rubber duck programming). It makes the process of creation far less imposing. When making large mega bases it can be hard to think where to start, so hearing people talk it out and talk through process feels very humanising and relatable
Would you look at that, a scam bot right above me
Yep, when in trouble you talk to the duckie
It is amazing to see the design process. I really like all of the scrapped designs
can't believe I watched the whole Hermitcraft season 9 in just 4 sittings in 2 days! Well the thing I noticed that how mumbo has evolved from more technical builds to adding more depth and including nature as much as possible. Now if Mumbo gets challenged by Grian, I am sure Grian would not be able to do redstone but mumbo could be able do to building. The base in season 7 was the best.

I love the Industrial Tower District idea. For me it would look magnificent if the tower would go from the abyss in the ground, like it was from another planet or smth, and you could make cool terraforming around it from materials surrending the vault

The pillars look nice!! You could try to place the design you used to break up the monotone water (13:48) at different heights to make it almost resemble pistons/engines
Very good idea.
I was thinking about placing it on every second pillar or at alternating heights. A bit of breaking up the monotony couldn't hurt.
But now that I read your idea to make it resemble engines, I'm sold. That's exactly where it should go!
Season 8 was my favourite season because of your growing excitement for and confidence in your building skills, so it's really cool to see a similar enthusiasm back for season 9. You really are a rally racing golfer, as you once said!
i actually really like that you walk us through your building process, i find myself learning more from you talking about your building projects than i do from watching grian just build. I dont think its always necessary to do, but i do enjoy it for your larger scale projects.
Some suggestions I have are: at 9:49, you could put stairs instead of planks on the ground, just to give it some depth, and at 14:05, you should put the rings around the water at different random heights.

Mumbo, put chains inside of the water area so it looks likes the chain is conecting the 2 island parts.
like the chains keep it from floating away cuz the water pillars are TOO extra supportive
13:01 lazy but genius
I would've said a column of frog lamps or sea lanterns so the water flows from the inside (and to avoid making a drowned farm)
or just put chains dangling from the top section
with lanterns or something
This would look sick! Hopefully Mumbo agrees.

11:20 Bro calm down you don't gotta scream at your inventory XD
Suggestion: Make a skyscraper for the industrial part. It'll look good with the color palette you're working with.
Yeah then make a second one right next to it for the storage
It will make the vault look tiny though
Maybe some sort of dome.
Sarumans tower springs to mind in a height and pallet.
Yeah i think a second tower and a few planes would look amazing
Don't forget to alter the terrain! Maybe around the vault, you could add more of the rocky/blue viney land, more dark grays and blues to contrast with the greens and light grays of Grain's base.
GRAIN
GRAIN?!
Who is this Grain character?
If you were to stair down the first two orange sections it would lower the orange layer to allow the vault to be grand-alone on it's hill. It would also make for a more dramatic focus on the farms rising up from the lowered border.

Saying things out loud is actually a great way to let your creativity flow and work out problems! It’s not dissimilar to the rubber ducky method that coders often use when there’s a coding error. Saying the code aloud, explaining what it does and how it does the thing or even dumbing it down as if explaining to a child often helps them find the exact issue or solution to the problem. Sometimes they use an actual rubber ducky, an inanimate object, or a person who just sits and listens quietly.
I often do the same with my art or something I’m working on, and at least for me it helps either come up with new ideas or fix a block I may have had. Your peek behind the curtain was fun and a great look into the thoughts that go into the usual time lapses we may be used to seeing. It’s refreshing and personally, I’d be more than happy to see more in the future! 😊
I think you can maybe make the pillar have like an arm of finger rapping around the bridge platform, like the bridge and pillars being almost seperate things while being conjoined.
This man has raised me. Now I'm on my way to getting my doctorate. All thanks to Mumbo.
Congrats on being close to getting a doctorate!
Oooh, that's incredible! Wishing you all the success!
Omg really that’s gr8😊
I love the fact that mumbo and tango has the same block pallet yet the two builds are so different from each other. This shows the infinite amount of creativity in this game!
Alright, so here’s my idea, build up the farms in the center, and have ladders in the corner and like, 2 block walkways with a height of 4 blocks, and on the outer walls, facing away from the farm you can have your storage. I’m not really a redstone guy, so I’m unsure how the sorting part of that idea would go, but it sure would be aesthetically pleasing.
Mumbo: My manageable size is about 64x64. I can do a giant house out of expensive items and display my diamond BLOCKS.
Me: My manageable size is about 5x5. I can do a small dirt house displaying 2 iron blocks.
I’m glad you’re doing a behind the scenes type deal. I’m working on a pretty major build, and watching you have thoughts and processes I relate to (templates, counting blocks, feeling out the sizes, counting the planning as a major step in the creative process) is helping motivate me to work on my build!
Edit: I ABSOLUTELY relate to the post-planning hype! The dread of not being sure how you’re going to do something, vs the giddy excitement of knowing EXACTLY what you’re going to do and how you’re going to do it, and you’re like “let me log on and do it right now!”
Pun intended?

I'm sure a million people have said it already but the two little legs sticking out of the green bit are definitely different widths.
I like the water bridge design, curious to see how it turns out
he was talking about how well it felt to have all the measurements right, and i was just staring at them like “uhh i don’t think those are the same width…” 💀
If you really want that evil villain look, replace some or all of the water streams with lava
I feel that the lava look would clash too much with the dark blues but I may be wrong
Tsk, no destruction.
Only capitalism
Using lava might look better (also because it isn't transparent), but it wouldn't fit where there is blue copper, so maybe closer to the back or to the important things (like diamonds) to warn Grian...
Hello fellow gd player :)
I was thinking coloured beacons that look like the light is beaming to hold up the bridge, like a futuristic look, even if it’s just in the test world

I really enjoy this kind of format! Most of the Minecraft building content I come across seems so fast paced and overwhelming and as someone who's new to minecraft it's really helpful seeing this kind of behind the scenes
Your summary of the problems with the creative process and the awkward transition from a piece of art in your head to in a medium is the best I've ever heard. Thanks for articulating something I've been frustrated by my whole life!
I love mumbo and grian’s relationship. Mumbo is the charismatic happy go-lucky villain, and grian is the darker, more sinister hero. Their personalities definitely don’t reflect on their building styles and character tropes, and it’s perfect.
Idea for storage:
Theme each layer behind a certain item class. One for wood, one for concrete, etc etc.
Multi-item filters staged at each layer of an item elevator, which then feed into individual item sorters for each storage module.
At the very bottom, have a shulker box loader and storage system for bulk goods like cobble.

Following the paradox of the water pillars looking more solid without blocks within it, perhaps add blocks in a dashed or some disconnected manner. As long as it’s not just a line of blocks connecting the top and bottom and is instead just a “pattern” you can see in the water, it may still give that solid feel.
