Inflation is printing of more money. That is increase in the supply of money more than supply of goods and services. Thereby making prices of goods and services increase. It is excessive printing of money that has caused the prices hikes.

In my opinion, economic theories in books are meant for economies that don't deal so much with a depreciating currency.
I don't dispute the effect of printing money, but I think as an import driven economy, the exchange rate loses fuels inflation more.
