They should add more points for rematching and winning, but also decrease the amount of points for rematching for losing. That way it will encourage both players to keep playing regardless who's winning. Honestly I don't even feel like I've won in this game unless I death match with my friends for first to 5 or 10.

  • @Moltanova
    @Moltanova Před 2 měsíci +25

I think the that the rise of One and Done are a multi faceted issue. You're right that the game is hyper aggressive in a game that is already difficult. When you're are winning, you're really not because the system itself is unfun. You can't go into quickmatch cause Quickmatch is the same. The only way to learn is lab or replay and not in the match like T7, Most of my game knowledge came from losing in t7 and some of the matches were fun to lose. This Game makes you feel battered.shredded and deflated. Which turns leads to the rise of ONDs. There is no actual fun mode to learn and hone skills without being one and doned and it's unfun to play

Yea, there is modes outsides the quick play and ranked but the primary is that quick match is Ranked lite, and Ranked favours losing in terms how you rank up. You lose more points for losing to someone higher than you or at the same level at a certain time. Compound that with the sheer amount of forced situation, 50/50 and miscellenous factors that the game itself is unfun. You can see it with the one and dones. You can see when people Say "Don't Rematch X Character!!" ... Yea, You can do those other modes but it's still doesn't erase the problem of the ranked and quickmatch system now

5:51 I've been saying this for the longest time with ranked in fighting games.
After discussing this with friends, I was able to meet in the middle with the idea of wanting tekken to add a customizable set option. First to 1, first to 2, first to 3.
But at the end I just want them to lock the sets down.

  • @chaotix67
    @chaotix67 Před 2 měsíci +53

Tbh, it's not just a Tekken issue. It spans all across modern fighting games. It's one thing when the connection is shoddy on both sides or you keep queuing with the same person. However, it's a pure bitch move to win ONCE and dip out. Especially after I give the run backs willingly. I don't remember this problem being this prevalent back in the day, so this is definitely a modern FGC issue.

The only reason why such a shitty and unworthy ( for a game like Tekken) ranked mode exists.... Is of course to cater to a more casual audience that ( in the mind of the devs) cannot be asked to win twice against the same opponent in the most volatile/aggressive Tekken ever to get any points.
    It is a handholding thing.
Same with giving free ranks until and including all green ranks.
Make casuals feels good without demanding too much effort or persistence.
A lousy decision that only hurts motivation of those playing this game for years to come. Most of the casuals are already gone anyways.
After they fixed the brainded heatburst ( also for noobs/casuals) it would only be logical to fix the ranked mode itself. And ofc a hard reset. Get these one-and-doners back to square one.

Forced Bo5 would be great. Not only just because games would give both players more room to test each others depth of abilities beyond lvl 1 flowcharts.
But this system would actually again help to promote players who are good at fundamental Tekken gameplay.
The way it should be. It would be way less volatile because it is also way harder to plug yourself to higher ranks if it is always forced bo5. Sure you can avoid losing but can you actually win 3 times with a pathetic flowchart, no movement, defense, ability to adapt? I don't think so.

I’m sorry. I respect your opinion, however, I disagree.
People have said it a few times and I have no problem repeating it. You are not entitled to a rematch. There is absolutely no rule saying you “have to” play a full set. You’re literally making up a rule and then trying to enforce it on others. Now, if it was plugging, I can understand because that’s pretty much a cheap tactic of maintaining their rank.
Bit of advice: if you wanna learn matchups, labs, replays, and player matches would do the trick. Rank, however, is not the place as it is solely for winning matches and nothing more.

As someone who used to play T6 online constantly back in the day, the game didn’t even have rematch options. Win/lose you were taken back to the character select screen and then to the “searching for a new opponent” screen.
I used to get decimated by Eddy/Christie and Lili among others in that game and forced to go back to character select, and I would be fuming and bursting a blood vessel cuz I want to get back up on that horse and try and correct my mistakes. So I completely get it.
When T7 introduced rematching a lot of people didn’t agree with it because it would breed a lot of entitlement and animosity.
The “one and done” system back when it was obligatory in T6/TTT2 kept players on their toes and prevented you from stagnating. Meaning you’re so focused on the one opponent and rematching, you’re going to get mentally stuck into their flow chart and making it harder to adapt when you face a new opponent with a completely different style.
Back then it was a constant revolving door of opponents and it kept you sharp. The mistakes you made lingered more in your mind, and allowed you more time to make mental notes if you ran into them again.
And it served as a cool down period because it would take you right back to character select after you won or lost if you were upset.
It taught me to have a rule, if I was getting angry or upset, then it was time to stop playing. Because the moment you get too angry or attached to getting revenge or feeling toxic then the game stops being fun.
It helped me develop thicker skin to the point Ki charging or taunts didn’t bother me, I just laughed at them for being desperate enough to attempt those things and I always kept water close by to stay hydrated. Tekken puts your brain to work, and strains you mentally and emotionally and you get thirsty quick, so always stay hydrated and you’ll stay sharp and less prone to frustration.
But I completely get your take on locking people into a full set in ranked. The problem is, you’re playing online, not in a real life tourny. The devs have to accommodate players with the ability to leave in case something comes up like an emergency or for their own convenience. They are the customer that paid for their copy of the game.
I understand that you shouldn’t be playing online if you’re expected to do stuff at home, you should play when you know you won’t be interrupted, but always remember you’re setting,……you’re at home playing online. Not playing at a real life tourny for cash. Sometimes you just gotta keep it moving, and let it be water under the bridge.
If your opponent is petty enough to ki charge you on their way out and leave you hanging with a “one and done” after smacking you, that says more about them than they realize, but don’t give your power and stability away by allowing that to get under your skin.
Just beat them and offer a rematch, stay on your high horse and they’ll probably come around. It’s happened to me before. I had a dude leaving and t-bagging me constantly. This was in T7, and I just stayed true to my self and offered rematches, and he eventually came around and reciprocated and stopped being toxic. I won him over. Lol

This sort of problem will always exists with a popular fighting game and publishers are hesitant to 'punish' paying customers so
instead of just having a ranked mode where you can earn ranking points you can have players earn ranking points through different means such as official league play or tournaments that require a larger commitment of time and effort (think the difference between pick up games and organized sports, treat it like a real competition), don't punish one and doners but instead reward players who are committed to see it to the end. Unfortunately publishers are too busy pushing out storefronts and dlc to bother with such things.

The problem with forcing players who win into a best out of three is what if they are holding off a unexpected task to finish the one match they have with you? Now they have to disconnect and get banned simply because they have a task to do. I see you forgot a scenario: What about the guys who smokes you in the first match and still dip? So that guy is so afraid of you now? I know! You have NEVER had that happen to you. Right?
Even in the Arcade back in day people would abandon their game if life came calling even when they were winning. It happened pretty often as I remember. I am now supposed to believe that never happens online though. At the end of the day if they stay on the queue and continue to play a genuine runner is going to have to deal with you before long again, especially in the higher ranks. It is more satisfying to run into a runner a couple of matches later anyway as they are exposed for what they are at that point and are posed to take an L on top of that.
The complexity of Tekken is why you get 3 out of 5 instead of 2 out of 3 like most other fighters. Your job is to make the opportunity you do get work. Sorry making a video game a commitment is not cool even for a joke. You do not have leg a stand on here. You are being unreasonable, full stop. A minute outro is a little long don'cha think? I hope your shoulder has recovered by now as I know those injuries can be annoyingly nagging over a long period of time.

Funnily enough, I've actually played that steve before in quick match.
One of the few things I legitimately WANTED for tekken 8 (got none of them btw but thats w/e im just some dude) was that ranked would be atleast bo3 for ranked points. So you cant play one match, rob someone with random bunga and one dimensional play, cash out and leave. The better player will *usually* win the majority of the time by adjusting and adapting given a match or so. Longer sets have always been infinitely more interesting to play and watch than just shotgun one n done matches. The way the system and game itself is setup encourages you to play a certain way. You'll have people on *CERTAIN* characters who're clearly lacking in most areas of the game but skirt by on one-n-done and knowledge check simulators. The whole online ranked mode itself is just a complete mess rn and could use its own video(s).
I also dont understand the removal of deathmatching from playermatch. In Ranked it makes sense, so you cant just farm someone (who is willingly to get farmed too) like in Tekken 7, but its made it a bit more tedious to practice specific matchups.

Because that's the point in having a ranked mode separate from casual. In casual, there's no reward and no consequences so nobody cares if you leave. Ranked should be about improving so you can reach the summit and make it feel worth it. Not cherry pick opponents so you can get a new shiny title. Really goes against the idea of what ranked fights are supposed to be. What are we ranking here? Not who's the best, just who gamed the system enough. The game allows you to leave so I really can't be too mad at the players. It's more to try and bring awareness to this and hopefully get it changed like we have with other things and if these people don't like it then casual mode exists for a reason. You should be forced to work for ranks, not cherry pick opponents to get them.

They shouldn’t have to be locked into the set, even in ranked. If they know they can’t win after the first match why do they have to give more points away?
If a person leaves after losing the first match, respect the fact they know they can’t win. Maybe they want to fight someone els to have a more enjoyable experience, or maybe they left to train.
The ones that ki charge and get disrespectful are the ones to talk about. I know it’s all competitive but they make themselves look weak doing that. And in the end you should know they have every right to leave even after the second match if they win.
Before T8 there wasn’t even a set system in the first place yet I never saw one video in T7s entire lifespan from day one talking about this irrelevant nonsense when players have been acting this way for decades on fighting games.
Y’all really be focusing to much on “the set” when it’s never been a thing until they made you only able to fight a max of 3 times when in T7 it was unlimited. The only reason they put it in the game was to stop point farming on ranked.

There's better ways to stop point farming without gutting something that made Tekken ranked cool. People never complained about it because it was never this much of a problem. You are probably going to hate me. But let me give you my perspective.
My name is not for fun, I am legally blind. I have played Tekken since T1. And I was actually pretty good at it at one point when I could see. Now, I would say I am pretty average at it. Having less than 5% eyesight, I would say average is very good.
Here is the thing though, even with the accessibility options that allow me to actually play this game. Who do you think downloads who when I play them. I will never play somebody for a rematch and then quit that is really shitty. However, I rarely rematch anybody anyway. No matter if, I win, whether they win. in general only if we have a draw will I rematch. And that's because I've already given my opponent the biggest advantage I can possibly give them by being blind. They do not need another advantage of getting to download me.
But here is my real point. We can have one game and win, we can have two games and win. That is literally it, it's one or two. If we go to a third game, it's one win. So what am I really robbing my opponent out of if I don't rematch them. One game one win . That's not really that much is it, I don't see why I should give up the only advantage I have by allowing someone to download me. Just so that they can have two wins over me instead of one.
Like I said, I know that's not going to be a popular opinion. But just remember we all have our own circumstances. And I play the game to the best of my ability with the disability that I have. I'm sorry that annoys people, but I do what I got to .

Random personal insert there, but the most fun I've had with my limited recent time with the game. I understand why the one and done can be irritating.

My decision to rematch most of the time is purely based on whether or not I had fun. I can get my ass kicked and say "ill have another helping of what this guys cooking". But if i did not enjoy the fight, im not doing it again. I am here to have fun after all. In any case, the reason I may decline a rematch ultimately doesnt matter, I'll decline the rematch because I have to pee
As far as getting skipped when I want a rematch, yeah it can be annoying, but I just smile, call them a p***y and go to the next match. The most annoying ones is where I get absolutely destroyed and my opponent declines the rematch, like what, am I not worth your time? But even then it's a minor issue to me.
I feel like the matchmaking system needs more attention than what youre complaining about here. It feels like the pool of possible opponents the game chooses to match me with is much smaller than it was at launch. I used to never match with the same person twice but now it happens at least once every time i play. I want to play against a wider variety of opponents

The point of ranked is to continue to rank up and fight more refined players. Some of those players are minimalists who only use a few moves to beat you like jabs or whatever is giving them the best outcome. It's your job to overcome them. There's joy in overcoming all play styles. That is what should separate ranked from casual. It sounds like you guys just wanna have a good ol' time and not deal with these "try hards" or "spammers" and that's exactly why they created casual or quick match mode in fighting games in the first place. No risk, no reward, just play and have a good time. Ranked should be exactly the opposite. Fight whoever, take your licks, understand why you lost and overcome it with the rewards being points and titles.

Honestly, I'd say this is just the nature of fighting games if you ask me and depending on how populated the game is, you're going to get some of these players one way or another and it's just how it is, sure enough you can make fun of them for it, but it ultimately falls on deaf ears for those individuals and if they want that one-n-done, so be it, and in fact, it's probably for the best you didn't have to fight them again anyway, cause when you look at it, I'd rather have these individuals get the match over with quickly, rather than them trying to finish the rest of the set unenthusiastically cause they feel they have too, leading to the rest of the match feeling like a complete slog with no one having any fun, but all the learning experience that could have likely been had is more or less gone.
In the end, I think the bigger thing you gotta take away from this is that, "You can play how you want" and when you have that choice that in itself is what makes things ultimately fun.

I don't see ranked for learning a match up, I'lldo that in quick match and lobbies etc. Im trying to get to the highest rank as quickly as possible, as most people would. If I feel I can win, I will rematch , if I feel I'd lose, then there's no logical point to rematch. I'm sure many can relate.

In my experience the only people that one and done in SF6 are like bad Zangief players that have no idea how to play his neutral and the like.

I don't think one and dones are a big deal. Just a game and so on. BUT... I just thought about something. If the ranked system wouldn't be so bad, people would propably finish more on their own.
The way you earn and loose points can be super weird. When you constantly get matched vs higher ranked players and loose more points to them than you get back from a win against them, then something is not balanced in the system itself. They should just make it like this:
Win vs a higher rank player, get more points.
Loose vs a higher rank player, loose less points.
Win vs a lower rank player, get less points.
Loose vs a lower rank player, loose more points.
With that we wouldn't even need Tekken Power.
Then there is also the plugging. When people on red ranks get their ass kicked by blues and then don't get the chance to get their points back, because the one they actually were able to beat plug, I can see why people don't care to finish a set.
If you get destroyed by a higher ranked player, but don't loose massive amounts of points for that, they would propably try again, because there is less risk, but a potential higher reward, if you can adapt and play better.

  • @trbd
    @trbd Před 20 dny

Someone's probably said this on your 1st video but imma say it anyway.
Deathmatch is genuinely a problem in Tekken 7. It's very common for players to play against the same player for ten dozens games, regardless if they win or lose, regardless if there's already 6 ranks separating between the two since they first began, until one disconnects or got bored. Tbf thats partly because loading and matchmaking times are horrendous back then but it's still a problem because matchmaking pool's getting smaller that way, so they limit it to best of 3 (or at least i think thats their thought process)
Is it better that way? Reception was mixed back during the CNT and it's still is, as you can see, but imo it's better because i have extra motivation to keep going and it's great that most players feel the same way too. And for me, i like it limited to best of 3 because i prefer games that i can easily leave at any time and come back without dedicating too much time per session, but also i get why people would rather have best of 5 instead because Tekken put much more emphasis on learning and adapting
