  • New Haven Railroad, Boston & Maine, Roger Williams, Shoreliners (RDCs), FL9, PAs, ALCO switchers, street running. All shot in a cheap 8mm camera in 1960 & 1961. Far from the best quality, but Oh, the memories!

Vintage railroad films while being serenaded by Dave McKenna. What a combo!

A life experience for me in 60 or 61 was taking a field trip to Boston, Concord, and Lexington. We boarded the train in Providence and it took us to Boston. The train ride was the highlight of the trip and Paul Revere's home with the low ceilings. Next was Plymouth Rock. Other than that I couldn't tell you what else we did, but the highlights are in order. Thanks for the video.

Thanks for the wonderful memories. Your camera work is spot on based on the equipment you were using. I remember being allowed to try my hand with Dad's old Keystone back in 1964. The entire state of New Hampshire looked like earthquake footage. Please share any other old footage like this.

Thank you for sharing some most memorable moments of the New Haven at a time when railroading had a distinct local flavor.

Inexperienced? I say this is beautifully done! I don't think anyone could've done better, especially considering the equipment used. Very well composed.

'60 is before my time, but I will say this. My first time I went down in the middle of Broadway St. in Southy, I swear we were on the wrong tracks 🙃

Great stuff. I miss the old Providence station. Also that is the first time I've ever seen video of action on Allens Ave. I actually have a small switching layout based on Allens Ave. Love street running. When I was younger, I remember all the sidings that were there. They are all gone now. Sad really. Thanks for posting.

Thank you! I only regret that, as an 18 year old student, I had to be stingy with my movie taking, as both the film and processing were expensive. BTW, in case you didn't notice, that run around move was done at the end of the line, by Narragansett Electric.

I did notice that. That was where the Ward Baking Company was. All of that is long gone. The bakery was standing until last year, they tore most of it down. The siding tracks were still in place on the side of the building but were not connected to anything.

Rich Ski I can remember seeing them in the road a few times as a young boy. That was cool to see as well and a first for me also.

About 10 years ago I was taking pics of the Cedar Hill yard in No. Haven Ct. In the back of a freight transfer building I found the Roger Williams only in AMTRACK livery

Hello do you have anymore footage of the New Haven from p
Providence? I am modeling the New Haven in N scale and it was suggested I look at this area as a place to model. Great footage by the way!

If the original film still exists, it would benefit from a modern film transfer to digital video.

Now can you imagine if the New Haven had merged in 1955 with with the New York Central and in Norfolk and Western. And then Norfolk and Western would say to the New Haven will make you a new independent Railroad by 1966. It wouldn't be the New Haven anymore would be the Providence in Worcester. And they would have an expansion thanks to the Norfolk and Western stable money.

Maybe a combination with the Erie would have been more suitable.
