What's really sad is that eventually they turned Thomas and Sally into villains just for the sake of propping up boring characters(Flo, Hope). After all the awful things Bill has done his family should've disowned him. It's sad that Brad Bell loves to ruin the best couples and characters at the expense of boring characters.

The reason Thomas didn't have contact with Douglas is because Caroline took him and went to New York. Thomas even followed her to New York and she still didn't want him so he stopped chasing her. Caroline only wants Thomas because he is with Sally.
