To date, we’ve tested 94+ robot vacuums, measuring cleaning performance, navigational abilities, usability, maintenance, and overall quality. Our objective and data-driven tests are designed to show exactly how much debris, long hair, and pet hair the robot can remove, how well it cleans around edges and crevices, its ability to detect and avoid obstacles, and how easy and hands-free it is to use.

Hi. Great video!! We have hardwood floors with a lot of area rugs on the 1st floor. And two small short-hair dogs. Don't need mopping. So freq transition between H/W to area rugs, and vacuum perform is on my mind. What's the best value that will still handle that? TY in advance.
@@harry.seldon Best value robot that works well for that situation would be the Roomba i3+ EVO - www.amazon.com/iRobot-Roomba-Vacuum-Automatic-Disposal/dp/B08C4LC7TG/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&linkCode=sl1&tag=mc_1001-20&linkId=c454f7c479a1260532141270add19baf&language=en_US
@@ModernCastle Thank You!
@@harry.seldon My pleasure!
When you test robots, also test their ability to cross thresholds and find out what their maximum height is. Does the software support setting thresholds and what happens if it cannot be set in the program. In the Nordic countries we have a lot of thresholds, at least here in Finland because it is part of the building regulations. Roborock seems to be the only company that allows thresholds to be defined in its software, and because of this, it is currently almost the only one that survives them with honor.
This is a really good review list! I appreciate you going over each individual factor rather than just giving an "overall" performance score (like the first video recommended to me). Means viewers can more easily weight the features that matter to their situation more!
In particular, pointing out that that one brand is bagless immediately made it stand out to me, since I hadn't even considered that that wasn't standard and I have no interest in ongoing "subscriptions" to products through having to remember to buy things like bags (both my proper big vacuum and my small dustbuster/stick vacuum are bagless and I just empty them directly into the bin on the far too infrequent occasions I actually remember to vacuum, hence looking for the robots!)
Overall, great job! Would love access to a spreadsheet of all the scores in all the categories for all the vacuums, including those which didn't make the "general purpose" cut here but might be more applicable to those in specific situations (eg those with fully carpeted homes with no interest in a mop attachment).
Also, I know this is something that changes a lot, but a sample price (at least for at the time of filming) or at least a price range for each price category would be super useful for those looking to purchase! When just starting research, I have no idea if these products are in the $200, $500, $1000, or $2000+ range, and as such have no idea if my budget means I should be looking at high, middle, or low-end devices.
Edit: Oh, it seems like you've been actually reading and responding to comments! In that case, if you don't already have it, it would be amazing if you did a separate video talking about the best robot vacuums for different living situations! Eg small apartment all carpet would be a very different set of criteria to big house with a mix of hardwood and rugs. Can also address situational questions like how important is smart navigation over "dumb" navigation in a relatively small space (my own is ~50m^2 for example) as I assume the benefit of coverage gained for the cost is lower than for a large house with many rooms. Also, the relative sizes of the docking stations is more important in a smaller space, so giving an idea of area occupied while docked would be useful. And on the other side, somebody in a large house would probably care more about battery life to get an idea of how much of the house will get cleaned every day! And also, you can get more videos out of the same test results 😜
Thank you! I'm glad you found the video helpful.
Unfortunately, we don't have our full back end spreadsheet published, but I'll give it some thought. You can see a complete list of everything we've tested here with its debris removal score in a table - moderncastle.com/robot-vacuums/
Unfortunately, we aren't allowed to publish prices + use Amazon's links. It's against Amazon's rules. I know it's aggravating, but it's just the world we have to operate in.
Have you guys tested the new eufy S1 Pro? I'm seeing early impressions on CZcams and would love to hear your take before purchasing. I really like the matrices you do on the evaluations. Super helpful for consumers.
Unfortunately, we haven't tested that one.
Will you be getting one and testing it
@@waqaasalifiaz It's possible, but it's not one that is high on our list. We've got many others ahead of it at the moment. If more people continue to request it we'll move it higher on the list.
+1 need a real test of S1 eufy
You didn't mention automatic cloth drying, but its extremely important.
Thank you for the great video! I have another topic which I hardly find answers to, could you maybe test it? My appartment has small steps between some rooms (1 room has 4,6cm and the other 1,1cm). Is there any robot vacuum that can climb this up?
I've only seen one experimental / early development robot that can climb stairs, but it is not yet released.
Which one is best to clean multi-floors house? I have 3 floors, that means I have to have 3 machines, or 1 is good enogh? Tks
What's the square footage of each floor?
@@ModernCastlenothing special. Many spaces, some tables, some chairs, ...
@@fujijiimmy8783 Sorry...what I mean is...how large is the space? 1,000 square feet per floor? 2,000 square feet? That size of the space determines whether you should just get 1 or 2 robots.
@@ModernCastleabout 700 square feet per floor.
@@fujijiimmy8783 In that case, 1 robot is fine. Any of the higher end robots will be a fine choice, as they all have multi level mapping. Just move the robot from floor to floor and take it back to dock when it's done.

Samsung Jet-Bot Ai+
Only reason is it gets hung up on my antique furniture, or rather, any furniture.
Less Obstacles the better.
Thoughts on the dreame L10s ultra pro heat? From other reviews I’ve seen the original non pro heat version performs well for its price point.
We haven't tested the Pro Heat version, unfortunately.
We found the regular L10s Ultra to be pretty solid...not quite good enough to make this list, but it's close. You can see the full review here - moderncastle.com/robot-vacuums/dreamebot-l10s-ultra-review/
@@ModernCastle main features I’m wanting are good with pet hair, good mopping on tiles, good object avoidance for kids toys and good self cleaning/drying for minimal input. Easy to use app would be a plus too. At a similar price point I could get the roborock q revo, would you consider this better than the l10s pro heat? The pro heat does add some nice features over the standard l10s ultra
@@matthewheyen1953 Unfortunately, I don't know. We haven't tested the L10s Pro Heat. I don't know how it would compare to the Q Revo.
Thank you for this review! If you have time to answer this, I would greatly appreciate it. Does a robot vacuum exist with the following combination of features?
(1) Slim design--at or under about 3.5 inches
(2) Strong Suction for Pet Hair on Tile Floor (no carpets)
(3) Good-sized dust bin,
(4) Uses an actual HEPA filter
(5) Two-Sided spinning brushes for good edge cleaning.
(6) If possible, no center brush or roller that that would grab and hold on to pet hair
Thank you!
No, it does not exist.
Your #1 and #2 are not compatible. I have never tested a robot under 3.5" that offers strong suction (or anywhere even close to it).
@@ModernCastle Thank you for the reply! Now, I can stop searching. I'll adjust my expectations (and the height of furniture) to accommodate what's available.

@@ModernCastle but on youre Homepage the l10s ultra is listed as the 8th best Roboter with a score of 98%. That sounds like you were blown away or not? Or is 98% a bad score?
@@SuperGURU_Ben 8th best by debris removal. But that's not the only factor we consider. When we consider the navigation, usability, and price point, it's just not as good as any of the other robots for its respective pricing tier.
Hey question what do you do with all these robot vacuums after? Do you sell them?
We mostly keep them on hand for future testing, updates, etc.
Where was the Xiaomi X10+ and dreame line up
He guys! I only have carpet in my 1 room. But in my kitchen and bathroom i need a mob cleaning, whats the best robot for this?
Narwal Freo X Ultra - www.amazon.com/dp/B0CPLP422K?tag=mc_1001-20
I just want a simple robot vacuum. No mopping or self emptying. I have all vinyl floors. I've had Roombas in the past and none of them lasted. Is there one that actually lasts? Thank you for your time!!!
Normally, a Roomba would be my go to recommendation for someone with your needs.
What about the robot didn't last?
Normally it's just the battery that dies and needs to be replaced every 2-4 years.
Why not post the cost next to each one
Amazon's rules say we can't post prices if we also want to use Amazon links
Which one is good for long hair pet hair and that comes with bagless option 🤔 shark Martix seems to be the closest one but it can’t avoid obstacles
Shark Matrix is by far the best option, despite the obstacle limitation.
How about Ecovacs deebot t30 pro Omni?
Not one we've been able to test yet.
Ok Tks
Wow! I am shocked there is no Dreame L20 Ultra!? What’s the reason for this?
We haven't tested the L20 Ultra yet. It's one I'm hoping to test later this year.
I will say, we have tested the L10s Ultra and found it to be good, but certainly not good enough to make our best robots list.
*Dreame X30 ultra!* @ModernCastle
@@justinforeman4068 I'll add it to our list to test! Thanks for the suggestion.
What about the Narwal Freo?
We tested the original Freo and found the app / wifi connectivity to be an absolute disaster. To the point we could not get it connected to any network (we tried 5 different networks at the various homes of our team members and their parents...none worked).
However, the new Freo X Ultra is a breath of fresh air. We just finished up testing. As a vacuum, it's a solid choice...though not better than any of the vacuums on this list.
However, as a mop, it is arguably the best on the market. If you need a killer mopping robot that also vacuums, it's the best pick.
Here's that review - moderncastle.com/robot-vacuums/narwal-freo-x-ultra-review/
How about roomba j7+, roborock q5 pro, q8 , ecovacs deebot t20?

Roborock S7 a budget robot?! Are you high?
@@krekmanski How inexpensive does a product need to be before you'd call it "budget"?
Based on the spectrum of prices with high end robots being $1.5K, the S7's $400'ish price tag seemed reasonable to me.

Sorry to hear about your experience.
Though this isn't really a Roborock issue. Even robots with excellent obstacle detection and navigation are still occasionally going to run into walls.
I doubt there is any robot you would find that doesn't scrape your walls.
The maxv variant, the 1 with cameras is alot better with that esp in settings in u enable the extra carful option.
FYI, the maxv variant scores the best in what u want to Avoid so if you're hoping to change brands and expect better, that probably won't happen
