How To Tig Weld Aluminum: The Lap Joint Weld!!!
For the next three weeks, I will be releasing videos for my Tig Welding How To series, strictly about Tig Welding For Beginners. More Specifically, Tig Welding Aluminum.
On today's episode, I will run a demo on a weld that in my opinion, anyone learning to Tig Weld, or, brush up on some Tig Welding skills, should begin with. The Lap Weld is always the first Weld I train somebody to learn, as I find it easier to not overheat (too badly) when first learning. Not only do I want to teach someone how to do a weld, but to be able to look and analyze WHY it was a good weld, and to actually be able to teach SOMEONE ELSE too! Pass it on!
For Tig Welding For Beginners, Im going to be breaking down even more keys in the Tig Welding How To videos, Corner joint, Fillet Joint, Tig Welding Mistakes, as well as how to avoid LOTS of Tig Welding Mistakes.
    Next video out on Tuesday!
Tig Welding For Beginners, or tips for Aluminum Tig Welding Basics, Watch these and pass it on to someone else who is learning, or could use a refresher!
I WANT TO SEE YOUR WORK! Tag me on Instagram, @pacificarctigwelding, or join our FaceBook group page! I will never say that the way I teach welding, is the BEST AND ONLY way to learn, but after training welders for over 10 years, I definitely have a few tricks to share.

I love seeing someone still using a transformer machine I wish there were more CZcams videos out there with people using transformer machines because you can find them cheap and they are a good way for people on a budget to have a great quality welder. I mean inverter machines are great I have one but I also have a transformer machine and enjoy welding with it as well!!

Thanks for all the good info! I just started TIG about 5 months ago. For some reason, I just can't seem to get the lap joints down on thin (.065) aluminum. The upper piece melts and the lower piece doesn't, it just turns grey. I can't get them to tack together. I've tried it clamping them to aluminum and steel chill blocks. Settings are 120hz, ~30 cleaning, tried 45-70 amps, 1/16" tungsten, and 1/16 and 3/32 filler. This is driving me nuts!! I have the same problem with t-joints. Only one piece is melting.

Hey I'm just wondering, if you have a MMA arc tig inverter welder that doesn't have a dc-ac switch it just has the stick to Tig, would you be able to get around it not being an AC unit by reversing the polarity the way you would if you were going to stick weld aluminium.

Nice videos. I like your explanations. They're simple and they make sense. I'm brand new to TIG welding. One thing that would help me a great deal would be a picture-in-picture or split screen to see the weld being done and also the foot pedal or machine amps to see when you are at full throttle and when you back off. I'm not advanced enough to tell by the picture. Keep up the good work.

ouch! 1 way on that brushing brotha.. your digging the oxides back into the aluminum and contaminating it before you start, now when your puddle forms your enclosed environment in the shielding gas is going to have that oxide burn off into it and contaminates it. the point of the argon is to shield against oxygen. its not as apparent on aluminum but start getting into things like stainless that get into the ppms of oxygen present can really matter so its good to practice the theory all the time to be in the habit
