Even eight years later, I still watch this solo and get chills. I remember when she first performed this, and I couldn’t take my eyes off her. This girl had such a beautiful gift for dance, and the amount of hard work she put in was immense. It’s such a shame that the ballet industry pushed her to need to take a break from dance for a couple years, because I really feel like she was at her peak in contemporary, and still had so much more to offer in ballet and to dance just in general. Edit: yes, I am aware that she has started dancing again and is a dance teacher now. I just miss the iconic days of her dance live streams at Varna and all the new solos!!
Soooo happy she's breaking away from the cheap commercial competition dance scene. I always knew she had potential to be a great artist had she gotten serious technical training!
Claire Isabella for her that's amazing but for some people competition is all they have or that's the whole reason they have good opportunities, she had to come from somewhere, "cheap" competition dance is where the majority of people like her and famous choreographers come from and started
@@blamemorgansmith7826to add onto this, if it wasn’t for “cheap” competition dances most dancers would NOT be around or where they are now. Competition dance absolutely pushed the standard for average dancers.
this costume really flatters her lines; I cannot get over how she can control her facility so impeccably that it looks like the video is in slow mo the inch by inch detail she gives each movement. Incredible. She does not look 13 yrs old!
i agree she is good at turns, but at competitions turns get boring. Turning is just one move repeated and repeated so why turn when she can do leg extensions, and she doesn't want to be known as just good at turns, sophia is probably one of the best technical dancers, so why not show ur maturity and technique as suppose to putting pretty jazz turns in your dance?
Tiedye Marshmallow Gymnasts (and espercially rythmic gymnasts) are artists just as dancers... they also dance and come up with cool coreography, and do difficult turns and all
You can do a bridge and walk your hands forward until you can touch your ankles. Make sure to strengthen your back by flexing the muscles (not to hard but to the point where you feel a deeper stretch) while doing this. You can also sit in a front split or pigeon pose and wrap a blanket or piece of rope around you back leg and pull yourself back the goal being to get your head touches your leg. One more exercise that helps as well is to do a back bend against the wall and walk yourself down a bit then when you get halfway down the wall walk your feet closer to the wall the goal being to get your head to touch your legs. I hope this helps and also be sure to be safe stretching. Good luck!😁👍
+Jessie B I wasn't either so I've had to stretch myself for better technique and I'm still not that flexible but it does help when you see progress. Always make sure to focus on the muscles your stretching and be sure you're not contracting them as you stretch. And don't give up bc I know you can do it 😁
And Gabriella "frikin" Inez is insulting an amazing dancer on Sophia's video. Why can't you "frikin" stop hating on Maddie on Sophia's video? She's not even on the video. I'm sorry but I doubt you can turn ANYWHERE. Let alone with a "frikin" axe. And yes, I am " frikin " mocking you.
Sophia said on Instagram that the solo has no story. It was created in phases, so she'd meet up with her choreographer, and they'd choreograph chunks of the dance, but no real storyline was given. She said it had a meaning behind it in the beginning, but it eventually just became a piece of choreography that she performed.
Teddy Palf You're absolutely right, it's definitely part of the choreography, especially considering she's flexing instead of pointing. It's actually quite difficult to sickle your foot while flexing, especially for a trained dancer of Sophia's caliber, and to do so requires conscious intent.
+Cheryle Grasby Maddie was never really a child prodigy. She was just on a tv show...Sophia is in the records for most pirouettes....so who do you think is the prodigy? Lol
Both are prodigies for different reasons. Why be nasty towards another dancer on this video? It does not make anybody happy regardless of what good things you write about Sophia.
+Cheryle Grasby They both are . Maddie and Sophia are completely different dancers and they are both prodigies in their own way. Maddie is a prodigy because she is very talented and has been in a multitude of tv shows and music videos. She has a full-time acting role in a movie and models for magazines and clothing lines , which is pretty amazing for a kid her age. Maddie IS counted as a prodigy in the entertainment industry. Sophia is a prodigy because she is amazingly flexible and broke the Guinness record for the most pirouettes . She has been in tv shows and commercials . From what I've seen so far she has great technique because of her training in ballet. As I have said , they are very different dancers. They have been trained differently but that doesn't mean the other is better or worse.
The majority of this performance was showcasing her legs. Yes, there is more emotional in her choreography, but she needs to find a choreographer than can showcase her dancing talents and not her legs.
you have an excellent technique, and impressive flexibility and balance. However, what did you tried to express ? I don't feel communication between the mood of the music and your dancing.
This is YAGP, a competition mainly focused on ballet. She was probably thinking about her technique, especially at this competition, more than her performance.
She has become such an artist
It looks like her body is making the music not like she is following it. That is amazing!

She has no competition.
This is eerily beautiful plus I love how it isn't only pirouettes and leg extensions anymore but it's mostly dancing
Soooo happy she's breaking away from the cheap commercial competition dance scene. I always knew she had potential to be a great artist had she gotten serious technical training!

She's 13 I'm 13 and I still come on stage and look like a floppy fish 🐟😂 love you Sophia❤️
i'm 15 and i also look like a floppy fish bahahaha
In France, there's Sylvie Guillem. In Russia, there's Svetlana Zakharova. And the States, we have Sophia Lucia.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO in the state's we have MISTY COPELAND.
+Sam Hiroh I like Isabella Bolyston. I feel like she is the best dancer in ABT
ThatOneGirl_13 she is really good but misty Copeland is my favorite:)
In Canada, Tate McRae
MsTammy55 ok this might sound stupid but i didn’t know she was from Canada
I think Sofia Lucia is amazingly talented and intelligent dancer who has great body awareness and control.
finally she doesn't dance a variation with piroettes or turns everywhere! Now she is a dancer: she put emotions in her movements
i agree she is good at turns, but at competitions turns get boring. Turning is just one move repeated and repeated so why turn when she can do leg extensions, and she doesn't want to be known as just good at turns, sophia is probably one of the best technical dancers, so why not show ur maturity and technique as suppose to putting pretty jazz turns in your dance?
she would be a great rhythmic gymnast!
she's more of an artist than a gymnast although she is a rhythmic gymnast
Tiedye Marshmallow Gymnasts (and espercially rythmic gymnasts) are artists just as dancers... they also dance and come up with cool coreography, and do difficult turns and all
super beau, super gracieux, superbe musique, superbe danseuse avec une parfaite fluidité dans les mouvements, absolument TOUT colle
She is amazing, she is the best young dancer i have seen, with kalani.
Natália Tais Cesca
and also Maddie
Mercy Namusia no just kalani
maddie is ok but she's not on brynn, kalani, sophia, tate or autumn's level yet.
I beg to differ. I feel Maddie's dances, I feel Kalani's dances, I feel Autumn's dances. But I just can't feel Sophia's or Brynn's dances.
you should also watch Tate McRae then! they're both amazing
Love the ending leg hold thig
This is phenomenal.
Good lord what a dancer!!! This is what it looks like to be peerless.
The control she has is crazy
Amazing!
Any tips on getting my back to be more flexible? I LOVE THIS PERFORMANCE, THE END WAS BOMB

+Matthew McLendon Thank you so much:) I'm not flexible at all, I wasnt born with it like my mom was, hopefully I can just work on it and get better.
+Jessie B I wasn't either so I've had to stretch myself for better technique and I'm still not that flexible but it does help when you see progress. Always make sure to focus on the muscles your stretching and be sure you're not contracting them as you stretch. And don't give up bc I know you can do it 😁
+Matthew McLendon What do you mean by contracting the muscles?
+Jessie B What he said ☝
what did she place?
what is this song?
Soo beautiful and whats the song ??
Winged Victory for the Sullen: Atomos V
Did she not get a prize or placement for this? It’s the best contemporary piece I’ve ever seen at yagp
pretty sure it got second in the category behind her other solo
Who choreographed this?
My favorite dancers are Tate, Sophia, and Maddie:)
Beautiful
Newsweek sickles!!!!! But all in all a great dancer.:D
it was part of the choreo :)
What song is this?
Winged Victory for the Sullen: Atomos V
And maddie frikin ziegler is doing a lizzie borden solo with a frikin axe and turns everywhere
+Gabriella Inez Can you praise Sophia without insulting another dancer?
+marilia fotiadou thank you!! Someone understands🙌🏽🙌🏽
+Anudari Magsarjaw I hate that everyone compares all of the amazing dancers , like they're all good just leave them😂xx
+The Twinnies not when ur talking about maddie vs sophia. maddie is inadequate towards sophia. its the truth. maddie isnt amazing, shes good.
wow
artistic
What’s the story of this perform ?

omg
is that an optic illusion or her foot is super duper sickled at 1:32
+Kirill Myachin i think shes doing it on purpose
Teddy Palf You're absolutely right, it's definitely part of the choreography, especially considering she's flexing instead of pointing. It's actually quite difficult to sickle your foot while flexing, especially for a trained dancer of Sophia's caliber, and to do so requires conscious intent.
Its called beveling. I really do hope you dont get "sickled" from dance moms and know what it means
no pros allowed
Why is Maddie a child prodigy and Sophia isn't ?
+Cheryle Grasby Maddie was never really a child prodigy. She was just on a tv show...Sophia is in the records for most pirouettes....so who do you think is the prodigy? Lol
+dancersingerlover so true.
Both are prodigies for different reasons. Why be nasty towards another dancer on this video? It does not make anybody happy regardless of what good things you write about Sophia.
+hallohellokonnichiwa I have written nothing bad. I simply made a statement. Both girls are gifted but why label one and not the other
+Cheryle Grasby They both are . Maddie and Sophia are completely different dancers and they are both prodigies in their own way. I want to know what she can’t do...
The majority of this performance was showcasing her legs. Yes, there is more emotional in her choreography, but she needs to find a choreographer than can showcase her dancing talents and not her legs.
Thats a part of her dancing talents
you have an excellent technique, and impressive flexibility and balance. However, what did you tried to express ? I don't feel communication between the mood of the music and your dancing.
This is YAGP, a competition mainly focused on ballet. She was probably thinking about her technique, especially at this competition, more than her performance.
Dance is interpretative. You have to try and interpret emotions your own way.
