So I bought a 42” cutter not the same one but it worked very well thanks for sharing this video . Before I’d be there with a grinder for years . This did it fast. Thank you
@@robertking6632 I know they would be hard to close with 1/2 inch Rebar. Did you put the cutters on the ground to help you get leverage? I'm sorry it didnt work for you.
I used a pneumatic die grinder with a 3" cutting disc from Harbor Freight and it worked fine, took about 30 seconds per cut on 5/8" rebar. You only need to cut about 1/2 through all the way along the perimeter of bar and you can snap it off from there.
@@hillbillyhowtos I see that you do some woodcarving in the description of your channel. I’d love to see some of your work. God bless. Some cool Bible verses about skills like this are Exodus 26:1, 28:3, lots more about tobin bronze and stuff. But then finally, Ephesians 2:10. Love that one especially!!
Really nice cutters the jaws seem to be doing well hopefully they last you i do the same thing at work when I’m laying concrete try bolting one of the handles down on a 2 x 4 or something and you can use a piece of pipe that fits the handle to give you more leverage, if the handles can take it, my ones are forged steel from the US hk Porter the best bolt cutters I’ve ever used don’t forget with a good file you can keep your jaws like new they may cut slightly better as well my ones do when I give them a touch up
How much harder would it be to cut the rebar if it was welded as a cage to protect a truck's catalytic converter? So you/the person would be under the truck cutting upwards from below. Or possibly the side angle.
It would be difficult to close the bolt cutters in that angle. You might want to put on a face shield and use a side grinder with a diamond blade in that situation.
I think it would work, but it's going to be very difficult to close the cutters. You will probably need to push them against the ground or get some pieces of pipe to extend the handles to get more leverage. Good luck!
Great video! Been trying to figure out if the cutters get worn out quickly. What is the strength rating of the rebar, or where did you get it? Thank you
I have been cutting alot more rebar with these bolt cutters and they are still doing great, very little wear on the cutters. The rebar was bought at Lowe's. Its 3/8 inch rebar.
In my opinion, yes. I have tried all the other options and this is the best option I have found. If the rebar is over 3/8 inch thick it's going to be hard to close them. So you will probably have to put the bolt cutters against the ground like I showed in the video. I hope it works for you.
It does depend on how thick the rebar is that you are cutting. The thicker the rebar the harder it is to cut. You do have to put some pressure on it. This is why I have to put it on the ground so I can use my body weight to push it down. I hope this helps. 😁
Put a long pipe on the handle , leverage is king
Thank you! After watching this, I bought this exact bolt cutter for $35 from harbor freight. It cut through my rebar like butter.
That's great! 👍

Great tips!! FYI It’s three-eights, not three and an eighth. Etc.
Thanks for the tip! Off to Harbor freight I go lol!!
Good luck! Lol.
Lol! It didn't work on 1/2" rebar so I have to return it. ie, 42" bolt cutters@@hillbillyhowtos

great video. thanks!

Thanks for your post. Trying out a new cutter like this made by Tektron for the crosses that I’ve been making. Have a great day.
Your welcome! 👍

@@hillbillyhowtos Thanks for the reply! Hopefully thieves won't do that since it's more work. ;-)
Would this work for a 1/2" grade 60 rebar?

i really liked the video. i am working on my eagle scout project, and i need to cut rebar. would you truly say that this is the best option to use?

What size is that steel bar? 10mm??? 12mm?
The rebar is 3/8inch thick. I think that would be close to 10mm.
@@hillbillyhowtos thank you
where do u buy this tool
I bought it at Harbor Freight.
How hard it is to cut for a first time who never did something like this. Thx

Might be good for a cut or two
I have done over 80 cuts with it. Its fast when you get in a rythm.
I’m getting me one😂
😀👍
