    Is it alright to use the Outside-In approach for an audition? Dressing like the character and thus possibly not having the tidiest clothes or messy hair? Or should you stick to plain clothes and makeup? I'm asking because I've seen a lot about how you're supposed to wear a black shirt etc.

    • @TheActorsAcademy
      @TheActorsAcademy  Před 2 lety +2

      I never go to the extreme, but just enough to give off the essence of the character. In terms of colors I’ve worn all types. Likewise when you walk into an audition room many actors are wearing different colors depending on the role they’re auditioning for. If anything theater actors may think this way of wearing only black, but again I wear whatever works best for me/the essence of the character. Hope this helps 👍🏼

      First of all, you need to work on your self belief. If you believe you suck, then that will show to others too. You need to believe you CAN become amazing at acting and be proud of how far you've come and will become! Now, as far as delivering the lines from the page, you wanna not act like you're literally reading from the page, add emotion into it but don't over act (that's why we're on this video, ey lol) and study Stanislavski's methods and techniques of naturalism, it actually helped me but you don't wanna stick to his method by the book all the time. Make room for your own method too! and finally, working on your diction is so so important so you don't slur and mumble your words into word jelly. I've been carded on that by my drama teachers before, and now, in acting Uni, my tutor thinks I have amazing diction and pronounce my words really clearly. It's all about practice, my friend. You'll make it, I believe you will. Now you just need to believe that you will make it yourself, much love and light ☺️

    Can you tell me that if I am right or not?? Like for some character I like to stay in the character and do the things that my character does but only for a few characters when I feel it difficult to find those characters in myself that's why I stay in character. But I see staying in character as a tool which I use sometimes and I always try to discover different tools for creating different characters 👍

    • @TheActorsAcademy
      @TheActorsAcademy  Před 2 lety +1

      Living out the characters life is not the type of actor I want to be, so I never practice in that way. It takes too long and can cause potential relational/social problems. Its kinda like when someone wants to get fit. There are those who workout naturally and then there are those who take steroids. I would never want to be the person taking steroids so I wouldn’t bother indulging in it, the same applies to the stereotypical idea of method acting. There is no medal given to those who live out the characters life. You want your acting to be quick and efficient. The characters we bring on camera stay on camera, the characters we bring on stage stay on stage. When I go home at night I am myself, I never bring the character with.

    • @tanishqmahajan2442
      @tanishqmahajan2442 Před 2 lety

      I agree 👍 but most of the great performances of all time are done with staying in character. People like De Niro , Pacino , Brando , Tom Hanks (sometimes) , Daniel day Lewis use this. Can you tell why??

    • @TheActorsAcademy
      @TheActorsAcademy  Před 2 lety +2

      @@tanishqmahajan2442 again it is a choice. There are many ways to get to the top of the mountain, it all depends on which road one wants to take. There are MANY actors that do not follow the approach of the stereotypical style of method acting. Tom Hanks did not fully go method, but rather partial method for Cast Away and you haven’t seen him doing much of it since. Al Pacino and De Niro have not went method for every role. So this is an important distinction to make. Are there method actors? Yes. Is it a necessary must? No. There are different paths to take as an actor, if you can make magic happen with your talent and skill that’s all you need. Some actors can bring out their talent naturally, while others need to take a long time. It all depends on the type of actor you want to be and how you practice.
      Remember, when you have an audition, you may get the audition notice today and go to the office tomorrow. In this situation method acting would be very inefficient. When you’re working on multiple timeframes for multiple movies, you need to be efficient in your work. Would you rather be given a character and be able to portray quick it and efficiently or would you rather need weeks if not months to get it down?
      On top of all this, method acting can take a HUGE toll on your mental health and significantly decrease your longevity in this business.
      Again it all depends on the process you want to go through and the path you want to take. There are many ways to get to the top of the mountain. Method acting is not a must and it’s not what I teach.
      Hope that makes sense 👍🏼

      Realistically, there are multiple “methods” or “approaches” to acting. Stanislavsky had his, Uta Hagen had hers, Meisner had his, etc.
