Mhm, all-time ridiculous inning. It would have caused them to completely fold in previous years, but they came back & won this time. The talent isn't quite there to contend just yet. They've got some real fight in them though, which is a good indicator that they're moving in the right direction & are getting close to opening up their window.

He's not bad. Almost as good as Yamamoto and Imanaga but not quite. He may throw 102 mph but he is extremely wild. Will probably end up with a 3.50-4 ish ERA this year, decent for a rookie but not good enough for ROY.

This was certainly one of the games of baseball and the most pirates game possible.
Sell out crowd, rookie first round pitcher, rain delay, bullpen troubles, and the offense some how doing whats needed 😅.

Cubs bullpen masterclass! The Pirates were practically giving us runs on a silver platter and made their bullpen look good at the end. I pray every time they pull out the starter although Steele looked REALLY rusty out there.
Their bullpen is an absolute dumpster fire!

Nice debut for Skenes. Can’t realistically ask for much more. That pirates pens though… at least some actual run support. I know the Buccos need a lot of things, relief pitchers especially, but I’d love to see a big bat come from somewhere. I know I’m dreaming.

The first one is always the hardest. Gotta be so nervous. Imo, he did really good and was probably going to go far in that game but pirates coach is going slow with his development, and his arm so he took him out. I’d be excited if I were a pirates fan.

where do i start? We had trouble scoring runs that weren't gifted to us. Their bp was tricky enough to shut us down. I felt helpless watching this train wreck. They got us bad then spotted us a two run lead in the fifth and we still blew it. Rather than draw the walk either Suzuki or Bellenger should have swung for the fences. Cuas was like a blind man out there feeling around for the strike zone, but amazingly he did his job. Two outs and then trouble began for Keegan Thompson. You could feel the confidence draining out of him. Lovelady ... that guy has lost us more games than he's helped us in. This game did not go very far to help me forget about the Cubs getting Ceased. Well, you don't win them all. Sometimes that long fly ball finds the gap, sometimes it doesn't. And tomorrow Hendricks is in. I hope the bats heat up. Hendricks says he wants to help the guys. Going to the bp would help the guys.

One of the worst trades in San Diego Padres History. Yasmani Grandal for Matt Kemp. Yasmani has more hits HRs RBIs ,Runs than all the Padres catchers combined since 2015-2023. Derek Norris to Austin Nola.
Grandal was great for the Brewers too, I was sad to see him go. Hopefully he tears it up with the Pirates, even if they are a rival
That was a weird game. Walking in 6 runs is hard to get your brain around. And then winning.
as a casual blue jays enjoyer, costing your superstar rookie pitcher the w in his debut by giving up a probably record-breaking number of bases-loaded walks in a singular inning is exactly the type of weird choke i associate with toronto. key difference is that the pirates actually pulled this one out and won it because they had an offensive output

Good outing, but I hope the organization reiterates to him it’s ok to live in the 97-99 range focus on controlling pitches at that speed then you got 100+ later in the game when you need it.
Skenes looked great to start the game and luckily they managed to pull off the win. That doesn't take away the 6 walks with the bases loaded the bullpen had. That is unacceptable and needs to be addressed.

Decent first day
Been watching baseball for over 60 years. Nothing personal against Skenes, but the pitchers who are "can't miss" superstars...usually miss. Brian Taylor, Todd van Poppel and David Clyde come to mind. Do you know who was hyping Greg Maddux? Nobody. Who had Sandy Koufax as, maybe, the best pitcher in history? Nobody. Most thought Bob Gibson was a basketball player. I'm not saying that Skenes won't be successful, but I'm still waiting on Paul Wilson and Pete Smith to deliver on their promise. They should both be in their 60's by now.
