    It's easy to see what makes the black version a blk. stonefly. In fact it is almost exactly what I tie, only I tie black ones in size 14 or 16. From the picture, it's difficult to see what you change to make the yellow one. Great videos. Keep em coming.

    • @Brownsylvania
      @Brownsylvania  Před 3 lety +1

    Nice video. I tied up some of the stoned pheasant tails. And I like them. I thinking of doing some other stoneflies and glo bugs. Would you also recommend those and what other patterns would y suggest I tie up for eastern pa streams

    • @Brownsylvania
      @Brownsylvania  Před 3 lety

      Awesome man! Let me know how they work for you. I like biot and rubber legs stonefly patterns as well. Glo bugs are a good egg pattern too. I think both of those and any of the other patterns I've tied here on my channel would all be great for eastern PA.

    • @coreystoner4129
      @coreystoner4129 Před 3 lety +2

      @@Brownsylvania I agree with you there. Like josh miller’s zone stone is a good example of a stupid simple stone fly that catches fish. I tied the better part of a few dozen in like 2 hours.

    • @Brownsylvania
      @Brownsylvania  Před 3 lety

      Also the fly patterns I end up "coming up with" are mostly based on my experience with what aspects of other flies seem to work best and such, but I do realize a lot of these patterns have already been made/used by someone else. The only difference is I never saw them used by someone else and ended up coming up with them by myself.

    • @coreystoner4129
      @coreystoner4129 Před 3 lety +1

      @@Brownsylvania makes sense bud. A lot of the nymphs I use are other patterns that we just play around with and find something that works. My pine squirrel terror streamer was a combo of a slump buster and a head banger sculpin and made something of my own and the fish approved

    • @Brownsylvania
      @Brownsylvania  Před 3 lety +1

      That's the best part. Making something of your own and catching fish on it.

  • @michaelmalloy9076

    nice pattern. I'm having a little trouble in the size 10 getting my Pheasant tail segments long enough to wrap the body to the eye. I;m using Hareline Ringneck PT feathers and its the same in all colors. 14,16 no problem but it seems the 10 is your major size. Any suggestions? Thanks.

    • @Brownsylvania
      @Brownsylvania  Před 3 lety

      Thanks! Definitely make sure you're using the longest fibers you can find and the more fibers you use the less wraps you have to make because they take up a wider area on the hook shank.

  • @leighs522
    @leighs522 Před 3 lety +1

    What is old is new again. Your pattern, minus the jig hook, which wasn't around them, is the same fly as a pattern described by Don Bastain, the well- known PA tier (especially of the old Bergman wet flies) probably 40 years ago. Don admitted that it probably wasn't original with him, either. He called it the "Harey Rooster" since it was the back half of a PT (which is a cock pheasant tail, hence the 'rooster") and the front half of a shaggy Hare's Ear. He ties them in 4 colors, with and without beads, including your rusty brown version, a natural hare's ear thorax, along with olive, and black. These have been great flies for me over the years. The black one, which is a great pattern for the little black stone fly nymph, is in my top 2 flies for steelhead, and they've caught a lot of trout as well. Not a criticism of your thinking at all, just to note that so much in fly fishing and tying stands on the shoulders of those that came before us.
    Love your channel and videos, which are outstanding.

    • @Brownsylvania
      @Brownsylvania  Před 3 lety

      I totally agree. Not much is actually new to fly fishing that someone else hasn't already done or been doing. Thanks for watching and glad you like the channel!

    Hey being from PA like me maybe you know this answer. Delayed harvest/ fly fish only areas are being stocked much earlier(2-14 thru 3-1) this year. Can you fish them the time they are stocked or can you only fish April 3 in those sections?

    • @Brownsylvania
      @Brownsylvania  Před 3 lety

      That's a good question! Yes, delayed harvest areas can be fished year round - even right after they are stocked, but I would read the PA Fish & Boat rules to bring yourself up to date with all the latest regulations.
