  • Oyster mushroom cultivation is considered one of the easiest types to cultivate, as this type can be grown on any dry organic material such as tree leaves, straw, hay, various agricultural wastes, wood shavings, etc.
It is known that the agricultural environment must be sterilized initially by boiling the agricultural environment at a temperature of 75 degrees Celsius for at least an hour. Cooking gas or firewood can be used for the boiling process.
However, I used electricity (to provide my solar panels) in the process of sterilizing pine leaves in a plastic barrel by placing two plates connected to the electric current, one at the bottom of the barrel and the other at the top.
I filled the plastic barrel with pine leaves, stacked them well, then filled it with water until the pine leaves were submerged.
This operation took place in the winter, specifically in the month of December (12), and the temperature was around (10) degrees Celsius.
Among the observations that came to my attention:
1- The process of raising the water temperature took approximately four hours, as the temperature rose by one degree Celsius every three minutes, as the water temperature was approximately (10) degrees Celsius.
2- To address this issue, I wrapped the barrel with a thick cloth and covered the barrel, which helped a lot in maintaining the temperature and accelerating the process of raising the water temperature.
3- I noticed that the temperature was dropping very slowly, so I raised the temperature to 80 degrees Celsius, then completely disconnected the power from it, and after an hour had passed, the water temperature had not dropped to 75 degrees, and thus the agricultural environment had been sterilized well.
To increase productivity and shorten time, I sterilized new pine leaves after removing the sterilized pine leaves and placing them on the drying table where the water temperature was still high, which facilitated the boiling process and shortened the time to an hour and a half instead of the five hours it took to sterilize the first pine leaves.
Therefore, it is possible to sterilize several parts of the agricultural environment, but this requires the presence of sterile surfaces that can accommodate all of the sterile agricultural environment for drying in order to expel all the water from the surface of the pine leaves and keep the moisture inside them, so that if we squeeze the pine leaves nothing will come out of them and they will not stick to the hand when holding them.
The process of sterilizing the agricultural environment can be repeated on a daily or weekly basis, depending on the number of drying tables. Thus, we can obtain a consecutive product so that mushrooms can be harvested daily.
