If an "artist" lipsyncs they should lower the ticket prices. I mean you're paid to perform not to pretend.
Often they probably sell the tickets first, then they get sick and they dont wanna cancel. I don't know I'm just guessing.
I go to concerts to see my idols live not to hear their voices live because let's be clear if they sing live it is really loud music but the singing you can't hardly hear so I prefferr it if they lip sync 🤷♀️
I think lip syncing is fine depending on the situation. For example, if the artist has a sore throat or is sick, and there’s no way they could possibly sing, that’s a perfectly good reason to lip sync.
I am not an artist but dansing and singing to fan that is hard. They have a pretty hard life. Because everyone knows who they are. And it's hard to make a friend that is crazy about you
I think if an artist is sick or has lost their voice they should cancel or reschedule the tour. People are mostly there to hear the artist sing live. If they’re not actually singing why pay a hundred bucks or more to hear your CD, music app, or radio. If it’s just to see the dancing then they should disclose that it’s not a true live performance and let people decide if they want to see a lip sync performance.

Singing high notes a lot is draining, but it shouldn't damage your voice permanently like that if you have good technique - just look at Broadway performers who belt high notes eight times a week. Also, I said this in another thread, but the better solution to avoid vocal fatigue would be to either pitch the songs down live, or change up the vocal melody at the high parts so you're singing lower. People don't go to concerts to hear the singer sing perfectly or exactly the same as the record - if that were the case, we'd all just listen to the official recordings. The excitement and fun of going to a concert comes from the spontaneity of the moment, imperfections and all.

As an avid mj fan, he never lipsynced he did have a backing track during his last world tour (96-97) he had very bad laryngitis, he did have backing tracks, but he also sang live just most of the time the backing track was louder especially when the dancing got more intense. His performances were genuine and he never let his fans down.

I'm sure no one will see this, but this is just to respond to people who are saying it's ok to lip sync to save your voice:
I have total sympathy for singers who have grueling tour schedules. But many artists have found ways to deal *without lip syncing* , such as pitching their songs down a step or singing different melodies at the high parts of songs (Panic! at the Disco springs to mind as just one example). That way, singers can still sing everything live without experiencing vocal fatigue.
The reason people pay hella money to see artists perform live is because of the spontaneity, and because of the excitement of knowing that, imperfections and all, the music is happening *in that moment* as a communal experience.
Lip syncing, even for just a few notes, really takes away from that. If we wanted to hear perfection, we'd just play the recording.
That's why I feel like it's disingenuous to lip sync, as well as just totally missing the point of why live music is so great!
Brendon's voice has gotten damaged throughout the years of singing. He strains a lot of his notes impacting the vocal quality of his voice. Plus Brendon isn't a "dancer" so to speak. There isn't much choreography is his shows. If he were to incorporate dancing, he would be lip-syncing a lot more to compensate for how grueling singing and dancing is. But anyways, Brendon has such a nice voice imo. I lowkey wish he got more credit outisde of the P!ATD fanbase

I obviously don't know what it's like to be up there, singing live. But you don't need to dance when doing a high note. When Ariana sung live she did that high note amazingly and didn't dance during it. There are many ways you can fit both in. Also if you are a singer the focus is mainly on your singing not dancing, unless you really love doing both and choose to for fun. That's why singers hire dancers. Because they are singers, not dancers.

If you are a hater then go watch a live and tell me if you, at anytime hear auto tune in their rap/vocals. A lot of people say they lipsync, but it is clear to many people (EVEN other singers) they don't.

The thing with Ariana's high notes is that you need to consider the amount of performances she does in a tour. Imagine you hit those notes throughout the show live 4-5 days during the same week just to do all of that again the following week, it must fuck up your chords, and by the end of the tour the quality of them notes would go way down. Not to mention how that can affect her on a long term.
I mean, it's still all about the money in the end (the fact she does that many performances in such a short period), but it's a sensible choice.
I mean, if she does it for the fans than it is good of her, we don't mind. Because singing such high notes everyday for a month of two will make your last part of the tour very hard if not impossible to be good at. We all know that she can sing well, it's ok if she lip sincs a few times.
But then for example it might be no the best choice to go beyond what you voice (ie body) can perform.
I've just had it with a favourite band of mine (Schandmaul) who pushed back 10 performances nearly a year because the singer had problems with his voice.
There was not problem no hate on their facebook because as I most wanted to hear to sing him live and for that we accepted waiting. Although they are small compared to Adriana I prefere their stance to just do what the voice is capable of and thats it. If that means hitting that high note can only be done every 2 or three acts then maybe acts should vary according to that.
The problem with Ariana is that she can sing very well, which makes it for me even more disappointing when she has to resort to these measures.

Also, I know delaying might not cause issues with fans if for the right reasons but I'm sure their labels would get pissed, or whoever manages/earns the most from the tour gets pretty mad about it
Well then what about all those musical theatre and Broadway performers who sing 8 shows a week sometimes for over 2 years without any auto-tune and still sound incredible? Singers can easily make it through a live tour without hurting their voice if they take care of it properly. I know that Ariana sometimes sings some very high notes but that's still no excuse for lip syncing in my opinion

I think with Arianna Grande she uses a track for her high notes because it would put STRAIN on her voice if she did it on every concert. She doesn't want to have Mariah Careys voice when she's 40 :)

Mr. Xenon When people pay to go to Ariana’s concerts I can guarantee the vast majority of people won’t care so much for the singing, but instead I think people care more that they’re is a celebrity in front of them. I understand that listening to music isn’t the same as listening to music live, however, Ariana has many songs with high pitched notes. She just can’t be doing that every single concert she has.

The thing with Ariana is that, you try singing a high note every single day for a couple months. It’s very vocal damaging, soooooo... it shouldn’t be hated on.

But the comment I replied to was inaccurate. Singing a high note every day isn’t damaging if you sing healthily and correctly. That’s why so many musicians who sing high notes have continued and had a whole career

About the Ariana one, they even do this on Broadway, in the Phantom of the Opera, the very last high note is pre-recorded. It’s because hitting notes that high consistently is nearly impossible, and when you perform the same song everyday, (like on Broadway or on a concert tour in Ariana’s case) it would be killer to try to hit those notes day after day, performance after performance.
