great job. not shore of receiver range.The 108 to 174/5 Mhz VHF band is AM for aircraft. just over the US FM broadcast band. I did hear some 10 meter am .not common. we got 2 FM 10meter repeaters hear. I have alinco DJ-X11 reciever. from LW to UHF. once you get to VHF /UHF you sometimes hear both USB/LSB being used. I am hearing 1.25 meter SSB and RTTY now. The UK CB band 11 meter is FM 27.60125 to 27.99125 . recent rule change allowing SSB in the UK. It's a lot of fun listing to see whats out there.!! AM is 5 Khz bandwidth and SSB is 2.5Khz bandwidth standards set many years ago. The bast way to learn week signal tricks is to try. every radio is different. some are vert tight . and there is 2 meter AM for hams. never herd it used. SSB all the time.
What is the model of this icom radio? Does it have citezens band as well? Just getting into radio and your base station looks like one I’d be interested in buying I’m wanting one that does everything
@@dave-j-kIn NZ in the 70's CB started off with 9ch at 2 watts AM (Tait cb 4 radio's and the like), it was illegal to have any hi gain antenna including beams, so I had a freind make me a highly modified Johnson Viking 4740 to cover the 26/27 mhz that I put through a 3 el yargi, went great, then they brought in FM & that killed CB.

It means that you probably hear a squeal or tone from your speaker if you are on LSB or USB listing to what is actually an FM transmission. Same will happen if it's an AM transmission but you'll aslo be able to hear the voice except for an annoying squeal. In both cases adjusting the clarifier will make the note higher or lower and at one point you will be able to make it disappear. This is because when in SSB receive mode your radio is 'adding' back in the carrier that gets suppressed by SSB transmitters (they have no carrier), but AM and FM do have a carrier so this local carrier or BFO (beat frequency oscillator) internally generated inside your radio will 'beat' against the carrier from the AM or FM's carrier and you will hear the difference. That's why you can get it to disappear at one point because the BFO is the same as the carrier of the AM or FM one at that point.

That would be transmitting CW on AM since occupying both upper and lower would be AM. You could, but no one will be on AM using morse. They’ll be on CW mode.

Its an Icom R8500, I just got one, older models nowadays but still very good, will do CB but generally find CB is dead.

how about in CB Radio 11 meter , 27 mHz band, USB or LSB in AM ?
Usually LSB 36-39.. For skip.. Local is AM

What kind of antenna do you have. The one I found only go up to 1200 megahertz

On mobile u should also know if you have a direct to ground key, and real cw mode breaks the carrier. I don't think any fm cw operates that way.

no, that is only for Amateur radio. for utility signals and almost any else ..USB everywhere with just a few exceptions
