  • Open ended toys vs close ended toys is something I've debated a lot about! Are open ended toys Montessori? Can you use open ended activities longer? Do close ended toys keep a kids attention? These are all questions I answer in this video! I go through the pros and cons of open ended toys and close ended toys. I also share our favorite open ended toys for 1 year olds and our favorite Montessori close ended toys.

Not to mention open ended toys aren't NOT Montessori! They're not Montessori educational materials, but they absolutely belong in the Montessori home! Glad to see this topic being covered more 👏👏

Yes!! Open ended toys are often misunderstood for Montessori play. Thanks for your thoughts!!

I had NO idea that there was an actual name for open vs closed ended toys! I LOVED this video and I definitely need to dig more into different closed ended toys! My daughter LOVES her shape sorter right now!

Loved this video and some of the points you made/open ended toys you showed were so similiar to what I did in my video. You're so right, sometimes close ended toys get a bad rep but when they're used to master a skill like you explained, they can be so fantastic! We are hoping to start sandpaper numbers soon and I'm so excited!

That’s so fun! I’ll have to check out your video! We don’t have sandpaper numbers but I can think of so many fun activities to do with them!

Thanks for sharing Holly! I loved your approach on explaining both types of toys + why you like both. I have a 4 year old daughter & 7 month old son, so I know this will be very helpful as I continue choosing their toys. ✨✨✨✨

Would love to hear more about the activities you have out for your older child. I have a 16 month old and a 3 year old who have to share a play space and I feel like every toy I find that is developmentally appropriate for my older child has too many small pieces (youngest is still mouthing things)

Hi! Those are the ages of my 2 boys! It can definitely be hard to find toys that are safe for a mouthing baby. I would say larger blocks and puzzles are great! I share lots of different toys in vlogs and toy rotation videos if you need more ideas 😊
