I've never seen a CZcamsr do a sponsored segment for a VPN and recommend checking the terms and conditions of a streaming service before accessing geo-locked content. Tom's like... way too ethical for CZcams
And let's not forget that he doesn't talk about all that security bollocks that almost all the other CZcamsrs have to talk about when promoting VPNs. He just mentions the stuff that's actually true and that he's comfortable about.

@@LinkTheSkyper Meh, it's unethical for companies to surcharge based on your location anyway, unlike streaming services where there are contracts locked up which is why you can't view stuff in certain places.
It's not to do with ethics, it's that streaming services just straight up block VPNs these days and you won't be able to use them at all with a VPN on. So they really can't advertise that as a benefit anymore.
It still sucks that he's promoting a shitty product that sells paid solutions to problems we should simply campaign against - location-based price changes and content blocking are things we simply shouldn't allow, not things we should sheepishly accept and have to pay to shadily circumvent. No shade on Tom himself, I know he's _got_ to sell out to be able to afford doing these videos, but it is sort of sad to see him succumb to advertising for VPNs when he himself was calling out how deceitful and pointless they are.

Tom is nothing if not consistent: he had a tag saying "advert" in his video (in compliance with his video complaining about how people aren't required to announce advertisements), and his VPN ad said nothing about security (following his video on honest VPN advertising). Love to see it!

About complying to his AD announcement video, you are required to announce adverts if you are a youtuber who is sponsored, Tom's video was criticizing the fact that some media (CZcams and a couple others) do have to announce it, while TV shows, movies, music don't. So he's not complying to his channel, he's complying to the law. Although I 100% agree about the honest VPN advertising.

For anyone who hasn't ridden a horse, just imagine you using your legs as a set of springs/shock absorbers when you're riding during the trot. The horse goes up and down, and all you do is lessen the amount of bouncing that your upper body is doing.
Bit like ridding a bike? You go up a kerb and instinctively stand up a bit to cushion it

I'm very glad that when being introduced to Toby, it shows that he is a horse. That's really helpful because otherwise I might not have known, that Toby actually is a horse.

I remember the one time I rode a horse my biggest takeaway was that I didn't think my legs could actually get that far apart. I'm somehow sensing that Tom felt the same.
That depends on how broad-backed the horse is, as well as the type of saddle.
My father placed me on his horse when I was a child. Someone came over, they got to chatting and the horse strolled over to a pond for a drink. The shore was at a bit of an incline and when he leaned forward I almost went tumbling over his head and into the water.
I was hysterical of course, clinging on for dear life and dad and his friend came over laughing to help me off.
And that was it for me and horses.
I sense that Tom's biggest takeaway was probably "I'm going to look so stupid on camera right now."

A friend once went for an activity holiday thing on a farm where they still used horses. His biggest takeaway from the experience was that it's not the saddle that gets broken in to you, it's you that gets broekn in to the saddle. He said swagger all the men have in Western movies isn't arrogance, it's just what horseriding does to you! XD

to all those that have ridden a horse before ... am i the only one thinking tom's strirups are to short (knees bent too much while sitting in the sattle; almost like a jockey) while the stirrups of the blue-haired lady are too long? This is incredible on so many levels, everything from the initially lacklustre "huzzar "s (well done Tom you got there) to getting dressed as a knight, which very much felt like a comedic version of LOTR getting ready for the battle of Helms Deep 😂
I have to day, those are some well trained horses. Between the instructor waving the lances in front of the horses, the wind blowing (and presumably whatever smells coming along on the wind), and the whipping about of the flags, nothing seems to be spooking those horses. Having been around horses, I can personally attest those beasts are some nervous, flighty creatures.
Literally yesterday, horse spooked mid-canter at a patch of grass that apparently looked dodgy
Did everyone not see the bit where Tom's horse got spooked and bolted at around 9 minutes in? Starting to think that has been added in after the initial cut. But they are very good horses, I suspect they have to be very well trained to allow the public to learn jousting with.
Horses before: Charged bravely into cannon fire, didn't flinch at pistols being shot next to/on them, and routinely traveled miles in unforgiving weather into battle with their companions.
Horses now: Spook at their own farts, can't be ridden if there's a breeze, terrified of water/plastic bags/their own shadow, and will literally chase you across the paddock demanding treats.

Okay, whoever that was that handled those beautiful shots of getting into the armour plus the horses, and EVERYTHING Will did for the contest? That was just amazing. It felt, Epic and grand. Even Tom struggling to get into the armour and struggling. Just great over all! I felt intimidated just watching Will though in the black and yellow armour through those shots.

A classmate of mine once suggested we do jousting for pe to the teacher, he meant fencing.
We nearly organized jousting between badminton nets. This was high school btw and he got it wrong so many times.
If I had a dime for every time my school nearly organized jousting, I'd have two dimes.
Which isn't a lot, but it's wired it happened twice.
The second time was in history, but the teacher had a gladiator fight instead. Homework was the shield and some people tried to get out of it by drawing a shield. All I can say is that it didn't hold up well in battle.
At my primary school, we actually did jousting in PE because our teacher organised a "King Arthur" themed sports day. We "rode" hobby horses and used foam javelins for lances and archery targets for shields.
I can't believe Tom's been to so many amazing places and done so many amazing things and he's never ridden a horse before this!

One small hint, though, when you put your feet through the stirrups, only EVER put them through as far as the ball of your foot. Two reasons, firstly, it's much easier to do the rising trot (your ankle will take some of the responsibility for movement from your knees. Your knees and thighs will thank you), and, secondly, if you happen to fall off, you're at a MUCH smaller risk of being dragged behind the horse, because it will allow your foot to slip out of the stirrups.
Falling off a horse is not fun (don't ask how I know), but being dragged is much less fun (thankfully I don't know this from personal experience, but I have seen it done, and it didn't look fun).
Oh, how I love horseriding. Can't do it anymore (not many wheelchair-accessible horses), but what I wouldn't give to have just one more ride...

I learned to ride when I was very young, and watching this makes me realise how hard learning rising trot must be. It's a feel thing and very hard to describe- I felt sorry for Tom saying he couldn't get the timing right, as there's not really a set rythm to it, but moving with the movement and rythm of the horse.
Mad respect to them- riding for the first time is very intimidating and difficult, let alone then learning to joust!!!
I liken it to the turn signal on a car; each one is different while still being a 1-2-1-2 rhythm, and once you catch that rhythm, it fades into the background.
Of course, I'm 28, and I still post to the turn signal in my car, so... 😂

2:15 - XD As someone that helped out at a riding school for about 20 years or so; I give you the classic potato sack riding position.
It's weird. Really young kids actually hold their position better, I think after the age of around 6 or 7, humans take on this position. Maybe it's because younger kids are still adapting at a rapid pace.
There again, everyone starts somewhere. The washing-line reins are a nice touch also. Not that long reins are always bad. I schooled a horse that a lot of people didn't want to ride (including myself). After a couple of sessions I just realised he struggled under pressure especially with too much contact on his mouth, so, as long as I had a bit of feeling through the reins he'd be happy to go around with his head low.
Took a few months working up and down to get him comfy. Had some instructors hate me for allowing him to be comfortable.
also, nicely done sitting with the spook. It happens; you get somewhat used to it but it can catch anyone off-guard
Why on Earth would they disapprove of doing what made him comfortable? A good partnership can't happen unless the horse is comfortable and listening. A friend of mine used to ride a horse that had a rather interesting canter that could only be ridden smoothly while sitting at a slight diagonal. If you sat straight, it threw him off and made it super rough. All it took was a tiny seat adjustment and a willingness to work with him. There was an older Olympic Jumper that had a cross-fire canter (I believe it was Touch of Class); The trainer/rider said the horse wouldn't have made it as far as they did if he had tried to fix it. Sure, try and fix the problem if it's a health hazard (i.e. cribbing or rubbing), but otherwise...
Of course it's not the point of this video, but I always think it's fascinating to see what gets skipped when the first-time rider is not going to be an ongoing student--a part of my soul will always kick and scream about unfairness when first time riders get put in an actual saddle, WITH stirrups, instead of a pad and having to actually learn to maintain your own balance on the horse...not to mention the complete lack of "if you're going to ride, you have to know how to care for the horse" content. But praise be to Freddie and Toby, nearly bombproof horses as far as this video shows. And the jousting angle was fun.
Right? Those two were absolute CHAMPS. Would love to have a few lessons on either of them.
As an aside, I totally agree with you on the riding. I was internally screaming the entire time they were trotting. "Those heels go down, and the feet go UNDER! Make that line! You're not a full body spring, you're a hinge. It's a full body LIFT from the knees and hips! Don't use your butt, push down with the feet and rise!" Did the same when they tossed Markiplier on a horse. XD

Is there any western riding in the UK? Barrel sports or just doing western vs English riding would be a fun contrast to see Scott explore.
@@inkynewt There are some people that do Western in the UK, but it is still quite rare. I actually think, in many ways, Western is closer to mediaeval riding than modern English is; a longer length of stirrup, reins in one hand, neck reining x

I sat on a horse once. It was a very long way up and there seemed to be no steering and no brake pedal. Fortunately the horse didn't seem to want to go anywhere so after a decent interval I climbed off it again.

Nah. "Thomas the Uncertain" is much better. Not only does it have royal connotations (William the Conqueror/Bastard, Ethelred the Unready, etc.), it also has a Biblical one.
He practically called himself a "Doubting Thomas".
