  • There are HUNDREDS of ways to fold a pocket square... but you really only need to know these 4 classic ways.
    → CLASSIC CLEAN EDGE
If you want a simple, subtle look that works in any situation, go for the classic clean edge. You can achieve this fold in a few ways, but here's what I do:
    1. Starting with the unfolded square, fold in half lengthwise
    2. Fold in half again, this time from left to right
    3. Fold in half one more time, left to right
    4. Then, I like to fold the bottom end up, so it fits nicely in the pocket
→ THE PEAKS (OR POINTS) FOLD
This has a bit more flare, and can have 3-4 peaks. This has a few variations. Don't worry about making it too perfect.
    Standard way:
    1. Start with unfolded square, wrong side up
    2. Fold corner to corner to form a triangle
    3. Bring one corner to center peak, just to one side
    4. Bring opposite corner to center peak, just to the other side
    5. Take the wings, and fold them in
    6. Fold bottom corner up, which shortens the square so you can get it in your pocket
    Variation 1:
Same steps as above ,but for step #6, fold bottom corner up, for a 4th contrasting peak
    Variation 2:
    1. Start with unfolded square, right side up
    2. Pinch from center with one hand, pulling fabric through an O shape formed with the thumb and index finger of your other hand. Pull until you have the ends gathered
    3. Fold pinched end, and put that end in your pocket so the peaks are showing
    4. Adjust as needed
    → POOF (OR PUFF) FOLD
More flare than the Classic Clean Edge, less attention-grabbing than the Peaks.
    1. Start with an unfolded square, right side up
    2. Pinch from center with one hand, pulling fabric through an O shape formed with the thumb and index finger of your other hand. Pull until about halfway
    3. Twist the fabric so the pinch stays in place
    4. Gather the peaks and while holding the twist, stick in your pocket
    5. Adjust so the poof takes up the width of your pocket and stays poofy without spilling out of your pocket
    → PEAK / POOF HYBRID
This is my go-to method when wearing a square. It looks the most interesting and is easy to pull off. It starts off just like the Peaks fold and the Poof fold.
    1. Start with an unfolded square, right side up
    2. Pinch from center with one hand, pulling fabric through an O shape formed with the thumb and index finger of your other hand. Pull until about halfway
    3. Twist the fabric and fold in half
    4. Adjust the peaks and poof, then place the square in your pocket, pinched end first, so both peaks and poof are showing
    5. Adjust as needed
    → TIPS and TAKEAWAYS
    1. The key to great folds is a bigger square
    - I prefer squares that are at least 16"
    - Typically with smaller squares, the Classic Clean Edge (and maybe the poof) is the only fold that works well
    - It's hard to get a good fold with a square that actually stays up in the pocket when the square is too small
    2. You never want your fold to be too perfect
    - You'll start to look like a mannequin at a discount department store
    - Don't fuss about it too much, just do the fold, stick it in your pocket, and continue living your life
    - If it falls into your pocket or loses shape throughout the day, not a big deal. Just pull it out, refold, and stick it back in
    - The Poof is the easiest fold if you're in a pinch and just need to bring your square back to life
    3. Don't match your pocket square with your tie.
    - Whatever you do, don't buy those square / tie sets you find at department stores
    - Complementing colors is good, exact matching is a no no

Great video but would be nice of the suit lapel did not obstruct the pocket square so we can see the whole thing. But yeah, thanks for the video, very informative.

Yeah I don’t care for accessories for my accessories 😉 men survived for at least a century wearing pocket squares without a plastic crutch holding them up. Too fussy for me
