When I was diagnosed with cancer, I went outside. It was a beautiful October day. I love the sound of the wind rustling through the leaves on the trees. I looked up and listened and thought, oh how I'll miss this sound. I'm fine now and watching you walk through the forest brought this back to me. Enjoyed the video, Jo.

Hello Jo, in Japan, woodland walks are a prescribed mental therapy called 'shinrin-yoku' which translates are 'forest bathing'. More and more people are getting into this concept here in BC, Canada with all of our vast woodlands and, having tried it, being present in the experience as the theory goes, it is very rejuvenating at least from a mental health perspective. It comes to something, though, when people have to be told that a walk in the woods can benefit your outlook, don't you think? I mean, how far removed from our planet have we become? I have a book about shinrin-yoku. I really do know that it works. I feel different all day after a woodland walk . It removes stress
I live in the Canary Islands no woodland. I do go for long walks with the dogs I am lucky enough to have amazing views of the mountains I live in a valley. There is greenery a lot of Cacti and the shadows of the clouds on the mountains which change the colours depending on what time of day I walk is simply stunning. Definitely feel refreshed after a walk in the wilderness.
Just got back from my daily woodland walk! I have done this everyday more or less since my husband passed away 14 years ago! It has saved my life!

The older we get jo the more we want to retreat to natural away from all the madness of what we do when we are younger
It gets stale.. we learn what really matters as we go down the path of life and embrace the diffrent things it has to offer us.. xxx where is matilda ? X

Jo, I am loving these videos. First, seeing the literal landscape of your life and hearing your remembrances provides us insight into the person you have become; down to earth, honest and swept up in acknowledging the beauty all around. I love how emotional you became with the gift Filipe's Mother created for you (it is stunning!). And finally, at one point in your old flat you made the statement that it just seemed like going backwards and for me I never question the rebalancing act of stepping backwards. It grounds one and provides a moment in time where one is able to reflect on both the past and future. Just like your Mother's house or that gorgeous tree, you have known for 50 some years, that flat may provide you insights necessary to move forward with more vitality and a new understanding of "what's next". Thank you Jo for allowing us into your beautiful life. Hugs!

I’m in Australia and the daughter of a forester who has also lived in Canada (British Columbia). The reason why we feel so good when walking in any woodland is because we feel connection. Connection with nature and the world. When you are sharing air with trees and shrubs you feel more alive. You absorb the beauty around you and become part of it. Love the bush/ forest. Great vlog 💕💕💕

The saying that ‘home is where your heart is’ comes to my mind whenever you talk about putting down new roots, and I think ultimately the ‘intrinsic you’ will lead you to the place you need to be. So I think for now you are right in just listening to where you feel drawn to, and at peace with, and that will let you discover, and find your forever home. I think moving back to your own lovely apartment is just a step along the way, so don’t be too disheartened 💗 I can only imagine how torn you must feel, because I see in your vlogs your passion and ‘joie de vivre’ when you are both ‘in your manor’ in Marylebone and in beautiful Sussex. I missed something, where you moved into your old flat. Love the picture you received. Finished watching and you haven’t. Try not to think of it as moving backwards. I think you will miss the view the most but go up on the roof every day. I agree things will be different for all of us.
My garden backs onto a field and it’s amazing seeing the seasons change. The sun rise the sun setting. It gives me peace. I live in Surrey and takes me 30 minutes by train to get into London xxx
When you film outside and your walking i feel sometimes i am there walking as its so peaceful and absolutely relaxing

I ditched Dallas, Texas in 1990. It was very glamourous, mean, and superficial. London is so wonderful but I wouldn't want to live there at this point in history! Peaople are ditching the big cities in America too. The Earth is our Mama and a powerful sentient being. She will tell you where you belong! I'm sure she has...good luck and enjoy!

Lovely glimpse of life in Sussex. Thank you. I worked out my whole dissertation by walking in my local park and its woodlands. Firmly believe that our brains function better around trees and all the living beings of nature.
The forest is amazing and the tree is fabulous, so good for the soul.

I moved across the country from S. Diego to the midwest and I only wish I had done it sooner. Every day I can walk my dogs down into the woods every day (I usually go at 6 am before the sun is up). I have horses right across the street from me that I can look out on every day. I wouldn't go back to the city if they paid me. Now that I'm retired I love it even more.

From the time I met you on You Tube I have found you to be a lover of both nature and city life. Because your work is in London is the reason why I thought you couldn't give up living in the city, but now we are living in crazy times I think your heart really lies in the country. The forest you walked through is stunning and in all of your videos where you are either on the beach, walking through the parks in London, trips to the country, and even on your safari in Kenya you glow with so much happiness. Jo, I completely agree with you that these last few months has really impacted me and changed my outlook. I’m more careful on how I spend money, I no longer want to consume as I previously did. I’m enjoying the slower pace and definitely appreciate the more simpler things in life - nature, food, family, friends etc. Maybe this may turn into a blessing in disguise for many of us. Stay safe xxx

Absolutely agree. I almost feel guilty for not rushing back and shopping...everytime another retailer announces closures or redundancies. But I just can't get excited about new things right now
I agree. My teenagers have gotten away from their screens and are now learning how to shop, cook and even can jams. They want to learn about finances and credit ratings. My daughter started her own garden and blackberry patch this year and learned how to can from my mum.
Absolutely spot on, Jo. Thank you for articulating what many of us having been feeling these past few months. 🙏 As early as March I took to walking through the Enchanted Woods close to where I live. In twenty years I'd never ventured there but instantly felt the better for it, memories of childhood holidays walking in forests in Norway. I truly feel "safe" surrounded by trees and by nature, away from the spin, misinformation and unremittingly grim news. As you say, the answers are there, when you are grounded, earthed as it were.
Love the new/old flat and Filipe's mother's beautiful work which has captured you in your "natural habitat" - how fabulous to have an original work to hang in your home. PS Love how you end with special mention of the tree. There's a Scots pine next to my brother's grave in Surrey and I always hug it and thank it for looking over him. Trees have much to teach us. And now that we've captured the zeitgeist, where to put it? 😉

Hi Jo ! I am a tree lover as well. As a child, when times were different we played in the bush or woods as the British say and I now live in the country with trees surrounding our home. I wake every morning to sound and sight of the trees. It's enlivening.

Hi Jo! What a joy today’s vlog was. Filipe’s Mother’s artwork is amazing and suits your style to a T!! Perfect for one of the walls in your flat. Mutti made me giggle as soon as she heard your top was from Next, she changed her tune!!! She looked lovely in her lilacs. I live in a huge city abroad and I miss nature a lot now that I am older. I have the beach near me, so now in the summer I walk to the beach and have a swim when I can until the early evening. You feel so refreshed afterwards and have that Zen time.
I am from Scotland and I love the Highlands for nature. It’s breathtaking especially when the weather is good. You need to follow your gut feeling and go with where you feel at one with yourself and your environment. It’s an exciting chapter of your life. One that has to be taken seriously for your absolute happiness from now on in life. Much love xxxx

As i get older, I need to see the horizon, to see a view and not feel hemmed in... Maybe that's one of the reasons you love your top floor apartment so much. I absolutely believe that walking in a wood is good for your emotional, physical and spiritual health. That's why I love Ottawa where I live . There are walking trails and nature parks all over and it's my favourite thing to do! And it's such a pretty city! Loved seeing your mom looking so well!
I thoroughly enjoyed your vlog. You have a wonderful outlook and it was fun spending the day with you via your video. You made simple things - like shopping for provisions, visiting your mother and walking through the forest -fascinating! How amazing is it that you get to sit on the same tree you sat on when you were a teenager! I don’t think you will be happy returning to your old flat after having such a fab view upstairs. Perhaps it’s time for a major shake up in your life. Having lost my oldest friend of 50 years a few weeks ago it’s made me realise that life is indeed quite short when you arrive in your mid 60s, early 70s! We have been exploring Norfolk for the last few weekends and have started to fall in love with the county. As you rise so early in the morning you could be there in 2 hours, the drive up the M11 is really easy once you get out of London and the small villages and coastal towns are beautiful. We are trying to find a weekend house to try out country living before deciding to make the big move, but I really don’t enjoy London life anymore. There actually is something quite inspiring to own your own home and the security it offers, it would certainly make you feel less confined to continue to work in London if you had a retreat in a lovely part of the country.
I was going to buy a house in Cley On sea!!! I love Norfolk...butits a pain getting onto M11 from centre of London

Jo entirely agree with you about walking through woods. My dad studied with Steiner when he was very young, and he always said to me, you should hug a tree every day, to get strength, but you have to find the 'right' tree! He was a great nature lover.

I absolutely agree. This pandemic has been a source of questioning for me personally as well. I am on the downhill side of my 60's, and I feel as if I need to re examine every decision that I have made up to this point in regards to my time, energy, and finances. So many have said that their focus has changed, and I can add my name to that growing list. Enjoy your time for introspection. I giggled about your Mom wanting you to tuck your shirt. Brought back memories for me.

I'm 67 and have always loved nature I went to school on wimbledon Common our PE was literally across the road on the common i think my love comes from that even now I like to sit in the garden and listen. Your vlogs are always interesting and varied. Hope you can get a million to buy your dream home x

Jo you are so right about the wood and you’re feelings too I live very near to Epping forest , it’s so energised and relaxing , I go drive and stop through it every day , I’ve had some lovely time in it , but things have been changing and not all good in the last six months and I feel the forest has helped me a lot , what a lovely tree , and you look lovely too 😊
