Martin O'Connor - Fieldnames and Placenames from Ballinamona, Kilmuckridge. Co. Wexford

I spent 2 hours in the company of this man earlier this evening, 79 year old Martin O'Connor from Ballinamona, Kilmuckridge. Loads of recording and chatting and here is just 5 minutes filmed on my mobile phone as we were driving to an area of high ground called Tullacanna (Tullakanna). The thing is, Tullacanna is an unofficial and unrecorded placename and as he was driving he started to casually tell me the field-names. So out came the phone, and as you may rightly guess, most are old Irish names which have survived the centuries in this part of Wexford. Lovely to hear them, but most of all, great to hear his pronunciation as they contain the regional gems. If you are into Irish language names, placenames etc - have a listen. If not - have a listen a look either ways as its great just to watch Martin talk and to see the dog running alongside him as he drives through the long meadow.
