  • “The #SixtiesScoop is a reality in our (Indigenous) families, all of us. I don't think there's one Indigenous family that hasn't been impacted by residential schools or the child welfare system. I don't know one. I've never met one.”
Meet Jennifer Podemski, co-creator and showrunner of our Coming Home Documentary, and Little Bird Series. For over 30 years, she’s worked tirelessly in front and behind the camera, earning a long list of awards and recognition for her work. In 1999, Jennifer launched Big Soul Productions, and by 2005, Jennifer had led multiple television series, documentaries, and 2 seasons of the first all-Indigenous drama series Moccasin Flats. Building Redcloud Studios Inc. followed closely behind - a full-service production company, with Jennifer in the role of showrunner and EP - releasing Rabbit Fall (2 seasons), The Other Side (6 seasons), Indspire Awards (15 seasons), Future History (2 seasons), Unsettled (drama series), and Empire of Dirt (Film).
In 2020, Jennifer launched the Shine Network Institute, a not-for-profit organization committed to dismantling systemic barriers facing Indigenous women across the screen sector through training, mentorship, and advocacy.
“As Indigenous storytellers, we are responsible for upholding authenticity around our stories. Since the beginning of screen stories, our Indigenous stories and perspectives have been filtered through the lens of non-Indigenous storytellers which has created a false narrative about who we are, where we come from, and the experiences we’ve lived.”
