Saab Unleashed is a channel that started over lockdown and has evolved into a mixture of Saab-related shinanigans, car infotainment stuff and in-car tech reviews.
I've been doing these reviews for a couple of years now. The reviews are always based on my personal opinion and are NOT paid for by the manufacturers. This should be fairly obvious because I always talk about any negative points of products.
Sometimes I buy head units to review; sometimes I reach out to manufacturers asking them to provide me with a head unit to review, and sometimes they reach out to me. It is important to me that everyone knows that these free products will never change the outcome of my opinion, or the head unit final scores. If there are issues, believe me, everyone will know!
My intention is to ultimately create detailed, honest and matter-of-fact reviews for consumers and enthusiasts, not advertisements for the manufacturers.
Nowadays, I try to use affiliate links in the video descriptions wherever possible. Most of them are not affiliate links, but there are some, such as those directing to Amazon or eBay. This means that if you use one of my links to buy something, I might receive somewhere between 1-5% of the value of your purchase from the retailer (obviously no cost to you).
I set this up because running this channel costs money via video editing software, music licencing, (not to mention buying head units and most of my evenings and weekends!) and I don't get paid for the reviews.

A very quick and easy option for people with older cars, or cars that can't easily have the radio swapped out. Great video as always.

Vent mount will break your vent
I had install several radio on my cars in the past and this is the first time I will consider one of these type of radio... No hastle plug and play! Clean in dash look great but in a 2013 car you can go wrong with one of this plus you can take it out any time 🤷🏻♂️

Nice video..and a right hand drive like most cars in India. Now that you have mounted the unit to the AC vents, could you tell how it behaves when you drive the car?...is it stable or wobbly? and does it affect the air conditioning in anyway now that the vents are kinda blocked?

Great video. Your video clearly shows an AV out (which i need to output to camper TV , rca) but the links to the products only list this as an audio out.
I've emailed Carpuride. Which model number did you demo? Can you confirm the AV out works? Is it y cable?
Be careful with the mount. Those plastic teeth that connects to the back break off really easily. Especially if you are driving on bumpy roads in a truck. This happened to me.
will it work in horizontal orientation ? aka: while i usa google maps i have have it like that to show me more of the road a head
also, how does the mic work while making a phone call ? and is it any good ?
I recently purchased the largest version for my truck. I found that you can not adjust the voice prompt volume separately from the media volume. The voice prompt volume is so low that I can barely hear it when giving me GPS directions or reading text messages and search results. I noticed that you didn't show using those features.
I connect my carpuride with the aux cable to have better sound quality and avoid interference from strong radio stations.
I love using Android Auto in my car and wanted it for my big rig as I feel it makes for a safer driving experience.
Does the AUX output have an option for fixed (rather than adjustable) volume, so I’m not having to balance two different volume controls? Thx

It will be the same as the Atoto A6. I showed in that video hire to mount it, it needs slight modification of the kits to fit

Hi, I have a lexus rx400h 2006, I like the car and intend to keep it for about 3/4 years more, few days ago my factory fitted amplifier stopped giving volume to the car stereo unit, I’ve done extensive research and I have decided to go for some kind of DAB unit with reverse camera, budget is about £80 to £150 thereabouts, the wiring is so sophisticated that I’m willing to feed new wiring to and from the cars own speakers and try using the existing power supply is I can, if not, I’ll find a new feed, I will try and disconnect the old unit and see if my climate controls still work, if not, I’ll leave it all connected but have the unit on top of the dash as there is plenty of space, I was shocked to find out that the wiring is not straight forward as older cars with standard iso connections, I’ve had a quote for an Apple play unit, they said I’m looking at around £700/£800, that includes bypassing the amplifier, most of the money is towards labour, my question is, can you recommend a double din slim head unit? Thanks in advance 👍🏽
Is there a built in mic for use when making phone calls? Has is the audio on phone calls for the person you’re calling. Can they hear you clearly or do you have to shout while talking? Thanks.
Yes there is a mic, and no you don't need to shout.
Hi - in all of your tests would you be able to test if you can listen to music and have the maps directions played over the top of the music. IE. - does it mute the music while playing directions, or does it play them both at the same time. And if it does play both at once, are you able to hear the directionsclearly
The Android Auto and Apple CarPlay standard allows simultaneous music and navigation audio, reducing the music when directions are required
Interesting, but how good is the built in mic? That big a device vent-mounted wouldn't be my choice on a rough road.
The mount isn't bad, the clamp itself is hooked and metal covered by rubber, and the feet a grippy rubber so you shouldn't get too much bouncing around and it definately won't be coming off. The mic is fine, works as it's meant to
Was the 7 inch size ever a problem for you? And the lack of physical controles? Been debating on wheather to buy the Carpuride W103, 10.3 inch IPS widescreen with camera or the Atoto P8 wish has a better camera and a remote controle but it's only 7 inch screen, but it is QLED. For the same price what do you reckon?

No, it means that, like all head units, CarPlay and AA doesn't use the bluetooth technology. Bluetooth is used for the initial connection to the unit, which handshakes a WiFi connection. WiFi is what is used for everything from that point, including hands free audio
Hi! Great video! I am about to install a Custom mod to my Saab 9-3 ARC (2003) made by Swedens biggest car audio outlet (BRL) so I can have Bluetooth in my Saab 9-3... Will this work as intended you think? My question is as this product is connected to my Android phone and Android Auto... Will it still be able to say play music through the Carpuride to my car sound system? Hope you know what I mean 😂
Yes, it will work through the radio (you tune your car into the Carpuride) or, if you have an Aux socket in your armrest, you can plug this into that.
Is there generator noise when using the aux cable? I have a cheaper battery power bluetooth adapter that connect to aux, but when charging it in the same time, there is this generator noise
I didn't hear any alternator whine. You can probably remove that with a ground loop isolator
Hey, did you have any issues with audio? When ever I try to blast music and have high base it crackles
Volume shouldn't have any impact, and no, I didn't have any issues
Does the unit need to be manually turned on and off when you start/turn off your car? One reviewer said that the unit came on after the car was shut off if it was still plugged in the cigarette lighter.
It switches on and off with the power from the cigarette lighter. The vast majority of cars cut power to the cigarette lighter when you remove the key from the ignition. But it is dependant on the car
Is the Apple car play wireless as I noticed that you used a cable when you connected the iPhone ?
Yes it's wireless. I had the phone on charge as I only use it for these videos

Is it possible to have this turn on and off with the vehicle or do you always have to turn it on manually with the power button?
It will turn off with the ciggerete lighter on the vechile, which is generally when you turn off the engine, or when you open the door to get out

Does the vent clip fit the 95NG?
I just tested this and without modifying it, the answer is no. So your options are either to use the suction cup on the factory screen for the 9 inch unit, or just mount the 7 inch one on the windscreen.
Does it come with bluetooth transmitter? i don't like the fm transmission as other people may intercept my transmission leaving zero privacy.
Whilst you're correct, my opinion is that interception is a highly unlikely scenario because the FM transmission only works in the immediate vacinity and on an unused radio frequency. So for someone else to pick it up, they would need to be driving next to you and tuning their radio at the time. Of course there are more likely exceptions, like when you're parked.
I don't think there is a Bluetooth option because the device needs to use its Bluetooth radio to connect to your phone
@@SaabUnleashed true. but still audio quality is far better via bluetooth than FM. some cars don't feature aux input which is a pain. By any chance if you could get your hands on carpuride w103? i think the rectangular model does come with an inbuilt bluetooth transmitter. Would be great if you can review that model as well.

@@SiroccoSeven if you have a stereo with CD player, you can solder AUX input into it and then just burn an audio CD with "blank" audio (like 40 minute song with no audio).

How do you play radio through it please?
You would play radio using the car's own radio. All other audio that comes out of this will play through your car's FM radio also

It doesn't have a radio at all, but you can stream DAB through it from your phone

I would be interested in a video on offline GPS app that doesn't use Google Maps. I recently bought a JOYING head unit that you reviewed and it came with a GPS dongle, but finding a good GPS app to put directly on the headunit (w/o a SIM card) has been a bit confusing to research and find a good one. If you already have a video like this, I'd be interested in checking it out!
Google Maps does allow offline use, but you can also look at TomTom and CoPilot from the Google Play store which both allow offline maps (and you wn't need a memory card)

I’ve used HERE Maps for offline use and it’s a great option. Plus it is free.
Hi, do you actually want a GPS app or satnav?
@@PaulForeman-indievisuals I suppose I never thought of a difference, ideally, downloading a local map file and using it to navigate. I live away from cell service so having an offline map is a nice backup. Google maps have been my go-to but I wanted to know some alternatives. There seems to be a feature to side load map data, but actually finding a site to download the files has been difficult.
It's OK, but you can get a tablet on a mount and get a fb-Bluetooth receiver, much cheaper with same results. Right?

@@aleksejloki6547 It is fast yes. because it uses CarPlay / Android Auto which stream applications from your phone, specification like RAM are not relevant. You only need to worry about specs like that when dealing with Android based head units

Features are lacking with this unit. The screen is nice. If this had the features of the Atoto P8 I'd buy it. Or if the Atoto ever upgrades their screen, which according to their engineering team has no current plans to do so

@@tarheelfan004 it only provides a rear cam. I'd like to see a front cam included w/ DVR for both, along w/ proximity sensors. Steering wheel remote & other options that'd be nice are ODB reader, tire pressure sensors & wire port locations could make it hard to mount in an enclosure for a more factory appearance.
No one to my knowledge currently makes a portable unit that even closely rivals the top dash installed head units. At this price point they aren't much more appealing than a tablet.

They sent a file for updating software. But that messed my device. They can't fix it. Its simple reflasing the software back on device. Which they are not helping on..
They stopped responding to my emails.
I don't know why can't they just provide proper steps in reflasing original firmware.
I see positive reviews everywhere. I don't know if each and every product is perfect which is not possible in real world.

Purchased Carpuride W103. Their support is horrible!
A real test would be how these cheap devices survive a summer on a dashboard, because home consumer devices are not auto devices, which have electronics designed for the heat and vibration.
Frankly, larger screens are dangerous distractions and should be banned.
I've used it in Turkey and Thailand, both at high temos with the device left in the hot car and it was fine. Big screens are the norm now, my Mustang has a huge factory screen
Why not remove all displays from a car... The radio could be a distraction, so could the speedo! 😂

My delivery was quick. Delivery updates were accurate and timely. They have answered every question I have (via email) promptly.
Android Auto is lame, it forces the phone to turn on wifi no matter what

I don't, but those specifications are not really relevant because it does not run applications. It just streams from your phone
