Well there WAS an episode of Regular Show where Mordecai and Rigby were playing a parody of it called “Extreme Escape”. In fact there’s a lot of 80’s shout outs in that show, including their game system bearing a strong resemblance to a Sega Master System.
Same for the NES version. Didn't even grow up in the 80s. Played it on the Wii and just recently bought the cartridge version, and damn is it a bloody classic.
One thing i like about youtube longplays more than finally seeing the endings to games i loved... ...is at least knowing that sometimes they didn't have endings at all. : p
This was the very first arcade I ever saw. I was five and all we had was the Atari. This game blew my mind. It was at a grocery store. The next day in skool I was drawing up my own elevator action with paper figures I had moving around.
I once draw an eleborate elevator action inspired drawing with Mickey Mouse as the protagonist and some other characters with lizard villains. Took me almost whole day. For some reason no teaching took place and the teacher said we must draw. Everyone was amazed and I think the teacher took the picture home. Wish I took a picture of it. It was detailed.
I used to watch my dad play this on our Ps2. Dad didn’t want me to know that the player was actually shooting people, so he told us he was throwing tomatos. Good times!
This was one of the few arcade games I would ever play as a 13 year old kid because I could have 10-15 minutes of entertainment. It seemed like every other arcade game at the time would kill you or be over within a minute or two and I only had a couple of hard earned quarters to feed into them. Good memories of this game, thanks for the video and here is a tasty like for you.
Ah the many long hours me and my friends spent playing this at the arcade. You know, you play and they watch, then they play and you watch. And there goes 2 hours. Great times!
I remember playing this as a fledgling child in Chuck E Cheese arcades, being completely blown away by arcade games. the memories this brings back. thx for the vid.
Loved playing this in the arcades. The NES version was solid, but the bullets were ridiculously fast; at the higher levels, the baddies may as well have been using frikkin' machine guns.
This game isn't made to be finished when you were a kid.. they're meant to be finished when you're an adult, feeling nostalgic and then playing this again
Great video but you seem to be missing some of the fundamentals of the game.I noticed that when you were in an elevator moving down with an enemy below you you would dodge by moving the elevator up and down till you could get low enough to shoot the bad guy.You could have just jumped at him as a jumping attack kills any nearby bad guy your feet hit-you are always trusting to luck that the bad guy doesn't shoot as you are going past him..Also when you are waiting for an elevator to cross an empty shaft if the elevator is above you so the cable is not in the shaft you can just jump across the gap (if you need to traverse horizontally to get to a red door)
This whole channel is games being competed using Mame save states rather than actual skill. In many of the runs he does it's easy to see for people that know the games in depth.
Many tactical mistakes. F.i., If you are in the elevator, leading to your car, and have a red door left in the first floor, go down to the car and you are automatically at the red door. Use, whenever possible, only two of the three shots, so you are always enabled to shoot. Never leave the elevator in the 7th floor, before the next elevator is arriving, to avoid enemys coming from the upper floors.
I didn't perceive that I could use the door to defend bullets at that time. But I don't care what it had happened. The only thing I can say is I'm happy to memorize the childhood till now. Thank you for uploading this material.
My dad worked for state industrial as an elevator inspector. He hated this game. He saw me playing it one day (after he told me not to) and dragged me to a building he was inspecting He held my head in the fucking shaft and was beating me; only pulled my head back in the Nick of time as the elevator came barreling down. It was tough love for sure but he did teach me this is a game which should have been banned
I loved this game . . . would give anything to go back in time for a week at the 'Arcade' and old style Putt-Putt. In Baton Rouge, Louisiana the Putt-Putt stayed open till 4am in the summer and they had a Arcade. 3 games of Putt-Putt then to the Arcade. We went there every Saturday night after we closed the McDonald's where we worked.
Love this game to death!!!!! sometimes you just wanna sit back with beers and play Elevator Action. No fetch quest, No collecting feathers. Just you and your gun taking elevators and escalators like a boss.
43:13 - Man, I'm just sooo tired of waiting for that guy. I say we should go up and blast him. - Joey, patience is the name if this game. Yo this is one of them games only the cool kids would play. I had to wait until they was gone to put my quarters to work. Other then pushed out of the way by A bigger kid. This was one of the best game a kid could play back in the day.
Exactly, those Wachoski brothers or sisters or whatever they are did their homework. Just like how the long chase scene in Point Break (1991), (you know the real one, not the world's most expensive Mountain Dew commercial.....I mean the 2015 remake....reboot.....retweek…..reworking.....resurface..) where everything in that chase scene that Kathryn Bigelow parroted from playing Paperboy (1988).
I love how the person who wrote the music for this was really pushing the limits of what they could eek out with the 8 bit platform, right down to the vibrato.
For the time it was impressive, but the NES for example has had much more impressive soundtracks later in its lifespan (the late 80s and early 90s). For example Silver Surfer, Battletoads and Journey to Silius. Still, this game came out when beeps and bops were still the norm so the vibrato is impressive, yeah!
the game is quite difficult, but when you know well what to do and what to do in case of the appearance of an enemy becomes quite fast, but still so difficult
this was one of my first games I ever played as a kid. Ah, the days at chucky Cheese (eek--horrible pizza!) but man, awesome game arcade. Loved this game.
It was more the "charm" of this game that made it cool rather than the gameplay. The music & the hair cut that evenly was cut to match bullets flying overhead was more endearing than the actual gameplay. Yet still- it was 1 of the better arcade games once upon a time.
Bring back good childhood memories used to go to this mom an pop store in a small shopping center.. it had a hand full of arcade machines there up the dirt road from my house to play this game and spend millions of my mom quarters😂🤣🤣
No one commented about how there weren’t any jumps? You can jump kick people, jump to slam the door on people, jump over elevator shafts. I saw the first two levels and 0 jumps. There’s two buttons. Shoot and jump.
This game doesn't get the "arcade classic" recognition it deserves, very underrated
Well there WAS an episode of Regular Show where Mordecai and Rigby were playing a parody of it called “Extreme Escape”. In fact there’s a lot of 80’s shout outs in that show, including their game system bearing a strong resemblance to a Sega Master System.
That’s actually coming to switch next week

It’s on the Nintendo Switch Now!

the funniest death animation in history of games.. also how the player and the bad guy can use the same escalator side by side peacefully.
Lol ik right
Well it wasn't escalator action.

I loved playing this game long ago.
What system did it come out on I remember playing it on these controllers that hooked up to the tv cant remember what they were called

Happy 40th Elevator Action 🎂
This was the very first arcade I ever saw. I was five and all we had was the Atari. This game blew my mind. It was at a grocery store. The next day in skool I was drawing up my own elevator action with paper figures I had moving around.
You misspelled "school".
They had this at a few arcades in Asheville when I was a kid. I remember the first time i spent my allowance playing Elevator Action at Sears.
Comigo também foi assim no dia seguinte fiz um jogo do elevador em uma caixa de papelão bons tempos
OMG Elevator Action was my favorite game back in the day. I would play it all of the time. Just to hear the music again put a smile on my face. :)
Yeah the music & the hair cut that seemed to be shaved by the bullets made it endearing to many of us old timers.
I was addicted to this game as a young teenager in the early 1980s 😊
Она вышла в 1985
Me too! I found a way to get about $5 a day in quarters & must have played this game over 100 times during the early 80s
I used to watch my dad play this on our Ps2. Dad didn’t want me to know that the player was actually shooting people, so he told us he was throwing tomatos. Good times!

This game bring back a lot of memories when I was 12 years old back in Chicago Illinois
Loved this game at Fun Zone on Western across from Waveland Bowl
shooting out the lights and having them fall on peoples heads is still awesome to this day
Ah the many long hours me and my friends spent playing this at the arcade. You know, you play and they watch, then they play and you watch. And there goes 2 hours. Great times!
I remember playing this, Bubble Bobble, Liquid Kids, Megaman: The Power Battle, and Galaga a lot on my dad's Window's 98 computer on Mame32 as a kid.
still humming that music after 30 years
played the hell out of this on NES. Loved jumping around the open area near the bottom and was convinced there was a last stage.
You knew these guys meant business because they are wearing Fedora's.
Something says me they are mafia
The bad guys look like Boris Badenov!
Wow! What a nostalgia!...
This sound track reminds me that I had a life of joy in younger years...
I loved shooting the lights on top of the bad guys killing them
I remember playing this as a fledgling child in Chuck E Cheese arcades, being completely blown away by arcade games. the memories this brings back. thx for the vid.
I whistle this song whenever I get into any elevator.
Loved playing this in the arcades. The NES version was solid, but the bullets were ridiculously fast; at the higher levels, the baddies may as well have been using frikkin' machine guns.
I sucked at this game, couldn't even complete the first level.
Same
You're all fucking losers. Easy as pie.

@@aceisagodkiss3872 my highscore is lvl 4
Yup me to think the furthest I got is at 27th floor or 16 can’t remember was my favorite at show biz pizza place
I was late home from school many times because of this single Elevator Action game in the middle of Westfield in 1984
04:08 There is a sign in the escalator that says: "Please don't shoot while using the escalator, it is dangerous".
Escalators are gun free zones
Best elevator music ever! :D
Man! I miss playing this!!!
Finally found the title of this game after 10 years! 😂😂
Same here!
I could be in a coma for 7 years and if someone had this music on when I woke up. I would recognize it.
Someone should make an ios/android version of this.
Mat Hantu its on a emulaterr
There was... a few years ago :( Don't know what happened to it.
This game isn't made to be finished when you were a kid.. they're meant to be finished when you're an adult, feeling nostalgic and then playing this again
Loved this game as a kid used to play it at show biz pizza all the time never made it to the bottom actually was a tough one miss the 80s
A little disappointed at the lack of jump kills and lamp shootouts.
Or jump the elevator shaft
Yeah I used to jump the the bad guys all the time
I used to play this on the original arcade machine and it costed me a LOT of my pocket money back in the days! Along with Kung Fu Master and 1942.
Ahh wrapped in a blanket of nostalgia! I loved this game, and I think I was pretty good as well.
And they never shot down a lamp! Heresy!
Lurch 666 I agree with you, however it seems that the player is not just trusting luck but showing an alternative (and harder) way of playing.
That flying kick was the shit!
This whole channel is games being competed using Mame save states rather than actual skill. In many of the runs he does it's easy to see for people that know the games in depth.

It's got elevators, it's got action, what more could a boy possibly want?
I always thought this game was difficult.
Can still remember this tune as clear as day, even after all these years
It still pops in my head from time to time. This and the music from wonderboy!!
So many near miss shot and left unscatched. you re awesome

Ridicolous to jump over bullets and not having a chance to escape a dog close to you, but conceptually a splendid fun game.
