- Flap discs tested: Harbor Freight Warrior, DeWalt, Makita, Walter Flex Steel, Diablo, and Norton Red Heat. A rusty piece of sheet metal was cut into 6 pieces. Each flap disc was provided 2 opportunities for a total of 3 minutes to remove as much rust as possible. The sheet metal was weighed before and after each timed event to figure out how much rust and metal was removed. 100% of the video ideas are from viewers. I greatly appreciate all the support that viewers provide, allowing the channel to deliver unsponsored, unbiased, content!

You should do some more brands that specialize in abrasives. Weiler, Randor, and Benchmark are a few that come to mind. A lot of tool companies just make abrasives as an afterthought.
If 3m makes one I’d bet that would work really well
Jonathan Bell benchmark are pure trash. I’ve used benchmark and Walter and there’s just no comparison.
LVA has good flap wheels.
Maybe do orbital sander test and orbital sander paper tests. Awesome as always
This guy really puts an extreme amount of effort into these tests/videos. Keep it up man
Thank you very much!
@@ProjectFarm Yes great job! can't get this data anyware!
I know! I love watching these.
No, thankyou. Your analysis and processes are very interesting, educational and entertaining. Non bias based testing for the win. Keep doing what your doing, it is a winning formulation.
I hope tool distributors watch this channel.
If I was a dodgy manufacturer I’d be scared of you!
lol. Thank you
GOOD! Hopefully they won't make crap products.
@@ProjectFarm I'm very thankful to my parents for being able to afford having me learn three languages still as a kid, even though i live in a 3rd world country. If it wasn't for me having english as a near-natural language, i'd never even dream of coming across content like this in my country's main language. To give you an idea of how screwed up things are here, major companies (even international ones, like DeWalt and Makita, which we have here) make shady deals to manufacture products of generally poor quality and to not allow any newcomers into the competition, forcing the population into buying substandard products for sheer lack of better alternatives. Importing anything is a major hassle and because of all the taxation, it ends up being prohibitive if one plans to use imported products often. Sometimes i get a bit desperate to leave but i get reminded of our worthless currency and just how little we actually make... There's no escape but dream of a better life through the internet and youtube. Thank you, Project Farm!
@@gionder that is crazy. Hopefully you can take that education and get out and eventually help that country that you are in. At 3 languages (2 plus english) the job market is yours to conker. Places love people who know english and at least 1 other language and you know 2. That is valuable to them.
@Swampy exporting also has taxes and our shipping infrastructure is quite arcaic and inneficient. If one wants to "expedite" something out, we usually go to UPS or other international company, even though cost is a major concern. As an example, i recently bought some supplements from an american heatlh supplement retailer. They had three shipping methods: the slowest one that doesn't include any pre-paid taxes cost me 20 dollars. The middle one said that i was supposed to get my products within three weeks, already counting the time the parcel would spend in customs. That'd set me back 73 dollars. Yeah, major difference. And the most expensive promised to fly through customs and arrive at my doorstep within a week, since it included all taxes pre-paid. My order was worth 112US$. This shipping mode? Alone, 130$. So yeah, i guess i'm not going to choose that one
Bro, you’ve more than earned those subscribers. I legitimately buy things based on your testing.
Great to hear!

Idk if he worked in a lab but he definitely uses the scientific method and thinks of seemingly all the variables.

If this guy lived in the UK I would be nominating him for a knighthood, absolutely incredible that he does all these tests from his own pocket, total and utter legend. Without doubt the best channel on CZcams

@@ProjectFarm thank you for pointing this guy out Todd, didn't know about this channel, I just subscribed to him.
@@Omar-em7rl thank you !. Yes Todd is awesome!.
@@Omar-em7rl the videos that PF puts out, in my opinion, remind me of the old consumer reports when I was a kid, unbiased, straight to the point, and Honest. *DO A WORK GLOVE TEST* some gloves resist heat better which one would be the best for the best price
Thank you for the video idea!
Yes! Piercing, friction, cutting etc.
I worked a few years in yard construction. Concrete products just killed gloves. Like by the dozen. All those little sharp shards of crushed rock in the material plus the ammonia etc from the thousands of bricks...
The only number I looked at when making glove decisions was, in the end, the cut resistance. I think it was because the worst the concrete could do wasn't actually the sandpaper-like scrubbing but instead the particles that were a tad bigger that cut the glove material.
And yeah, technically all sandpapers "cut" grooves the size of it's grain - it's the many juxtapositioned cuts that loosens material.
But the cutting I'm talking about are from specs like 0.5mm in size or so. Huge in terms of sandpaper and the average surface smoothness of landscaping concrete products.
This is a great idea. I’d be curious to find out aswell
Yeah. I'd love to see that myself.
Would be a good test indeed! Dont forget then to include some automotive gloves; oil and brake fluid ressistent.
The testing rig you made is very impressive.
Thank you very much!
@@ProjectFarm good way to upcycle those old riding lawn mower parts!
I think abrasive material should be a consideration for the test. From my info gathering there are 3 types: aluminum oxide, Zirconia/Zirconium and the newest Ceramics. A revision and new players on the field should make and excelent test. Also there are 2 types of flap discs Type 29 and Type 27. Thanks for all the hard work.
Thanks and you are welcome! Thanks for the video idea.
This is a great idea, just trying to find a good review on stripping wheels, they are designed for removal of rust and paint. I am currently using a flap disc from Princess Auto to sharpen my mower blades. I leave the blades on the mower, it is doing a great job.
I appreciate you taking such pains to make the results clear even when you’re cautious of calling anyone an outright winner. Telling us YOUR conclusions is invaluable. Thanks
I appreciate that!
I appreciate the in depth and accurate review on the flap discs.
I’d have to say that, based on the posted results of your findings, the Diablo was the clear winner! Thanks.
I do a lot of body work panels and make various things out of 1/8" stock. I grind the weld first with a 36G grinding wheel then blend with 60G or 80G flap wheel. I do in some cases use the 36G as well. The Harbor Freight ones are just about useless. I generally buy Norton which work pretty good but I will try the Diablo. Like another guy wrote " Diablo makes good S#*t" I wonder if your experiments are better than the manufacturer. They seem more real world to me. Great job as always!
I trust this channel so much, you've gotta love how objective he is. Mad respect for his methods and many thanks for the time put into making these videos.
Thank you very much!
I really like that you use different weights and times. I have found from using these products at work for 30 years that any grinding, cutting, and sanding disc it is best to let the disc do the work and not force it. They last longer even though they may cut a bit slower. You may be cutting slower, but by the time you stop to change wheels the total time ends up quicker. Also you put less stress on the tool which lasts longer too.
Thanks for sharing!
I appreciate the amount of work and money you put into these. You’re always my first stop when I need to know!!
Thank you very much!
A useful video may be the best engine parts cleaner/degreaser.

I'd watch this if even just to see what test idea he comes up with! That's not an easy thing to measure. Lol
This^
Yes, especially water based vs solvent based degreasers!
@@mentaldan666 Probably something to do with burning sludge or something like that onto bare metal. There'd have to be 3 or 4 tests averaged out to account for the imprecise nature of a test like that. Just off the top of my head. Could also do easier, less subjective tests like spraying each test onto a thin layer of oil on a vertical piece of metal, and seeing if each of them are capable of removing it.
Test windshield wipers see which is the best brand
Thank you for the video idea!
I second that I have gotten some real crappy blades for my wife's and my car and they are not cheap $20 a piece!
Project Farm no problem!
That's a great idea. I keep buying OEM Honda wiper blade refills and they barely last six months. They're cheap but it's still a pain to constantly have to swap them out. It's still better than buying a $20 replacement blade that also only lasts about six months.
the best wiper blade are made of silicone. dont buy the cheap rubber ones. the silicone ones ive got have lasted for about a year and a half so far and they stilk work like new

Great video! Idea for the future: you should test commercial degreasers against dawn dish soap!
Thank you for the video idea!
Yes!! Definitely seconding this idea. Please try Sunlight Original Yellow/lemon in that group, too, please ? My dad used to sell chemicals from a company called National Labs here in Canada, and although he loved their Fasolve degreaser, he still swore that Sunlight was better, especially on organic oils like fish oil ( we used it exclusively to clean the boat and coolers after fishing.)
The only thing I’d like to see is when you do the final review, add a graphic like you do for costs, wear, etc add an overall ranking on first place thru last place when your speaking. I hope that makes sense.

From my experience, these wheels seem to be cutting WAAYYY less than I'm used to for a 40 grit. Could be the pressure, the way the steel is rotating, or another factor. I love the videos! Keep them coming!
Thank you!
Bit late but agreed....with a 40 grit wheel I could probably have made the entire sheet shiny by hand in a minute.
Technique adds a lot of value to the wheels. This was a machine to test the same conditions between the pads.
I am sure you dudes can put more than 5 or 10 lbs into the grinder.
I still love these test.... so glade you do them ..I find them very interesting
I’ve never used one of these wheels and often wondered about their performance. Thank you so much for doing this excellent test!

Could you do a vid comparing diesel anti gel products like 911, Howes diesel treat and others. Great vid as always
Great video idea! Thank you
Adding in with sea foam too
Interesting test to see how flap discs hold up relative to each other on rust/scale.... In general if you want to extend the life of any flap disc or sanding disc always remove the rust & scale surface first with either a grinding wheel, sandblasting, rust dissolver/ acid or (my preferred method) a diamond grinding wheel. Iron oxide is quite high on the Mohs hardness scale, & is an abrasive in its own right, Emery powder. You can see how glazed the edges of each flap are after the second test, & why they don't cut nearly as well in the 2 min test. Once you get to clean steel a fresh flap disc or sanding disc will cut beautifully.
You put a lot of thought and effort into these reviews. Thank you!
Appreciate that!
When I seen the title, I was wondering how you were gonna pull-off this test! You did a great job! Thanks so much for the valuable information you provide us consumers!
Thank you!
Again Diablo did well. The Harbor Freight I buy in a mixed 10 pack and get 3 of these flaps under $10. It makes the warrior ones even cheaper worth it at that price.
@bill hill yay! And free multi meter or magnetic tool holder
@bill hill look up hft coupons on the app store. I love it
@bill hill If you can get those at 99 cents you can't possibly go wrong, I guarantee 9 of them would remove more material than a $9 dewalt disk.
@bill hill they have all sorts of coupons and free items with purchase. Its a free app and i use it all the time.
@bill hill Same!

@@SealofPerfection thanks, I’m looking forward to trying them!
Cubitron won one of the sanding paper tests he did. I don’t know why he didn’t include one of the 40 grain flap discs. But anyway, he does excellent and fair tests. Easy to understand and great way of not spending money in fancy, but poor performing brands…
@@alexander_konig_coaching Thanks, I don’t think I had seen that test. And I agree that his tests are as fair as can be done. I seldom find fault with any of his test methods and I certainly understand that he has a limit as to the number of brands he can test.

Great video, thanks. How about standard belts for a 3" X 21" belt sander ? I find that on some, the glue strip splits before the belt gets worn. J K
Thank you for the video idea!
I second this idea. You can also see which belt will help your belt sander race along the floor at the highest rate of speed!
The sound of a snapping belt followed by a big bang, squeeeek and alarm is never good! Mind, the belts in question are 1300mm wide and 2150mm long. We had two brands where the joint broke way before the belt was worn.
I work at Canadian Tire, and a handful of the mastercraft belts we get are split right off the truck. I've had to replace one of the belts on a display after a few months, for the same reason.
I’ve spent 3 weeks in a grinding room straight beveling fittings with a Walter abrasives wheel and out of all the wheels I’ve ever used they work the best after there worn down because they don’t cut as hard it’s easier to bevel fittings
Great feedback. Thank you

You are welcome! Thanks for watching and subscribing!
Another outstanding comparison. The last two flap discs I bought were Dewalt and they were just as you say, overpriced and so-so performance. I’m not a big dewalt fan due to a bad experience with an expensive hammer drill that was hardly used and just outside the warranty it decided to let out the blue smoke. After being denied warranty I took it apart and it was a clear manufacturer defect. Improper assembly caused wires to get pinched and the insulation was damaged just enough to short circuit. When shown photos, dewalt basically gave me the middle finger. I now buy Makita drills and hypoid saws, Milwaukee grinders, Bosch routers, Sanders, and table saws.
I’m going to buy a flap disc tomorrow and will be going with diablo.
