I love how her story is about finding one's personal duality while Genji and Hanzo are two narrow pathways that branched into something neither expected.
She's as conflicted between dps and healing as Moira.
@@redacted8008 Not at all, her healing is as bad as Zenâs but worse bc you canât damage and heal at the same time so much. As she is now, youâre going to have to primarily focus on elims and boosting your teammates.

Thereâs definitely a tragic contrast between her and Genji. She was luckily able to hone in on both âsidesâ of her personality through her teachings (and the support from her mentors) whereas Genji was wanted dead for leaning too much on his more playful nature.

Kiriko likes healing and fighting and didnât want to give up either one so she decided to make her own path and do both while genji he didnât really care for fighting and his dad spoiled him since he wasnât the eldest son and wasnât gonna take over the family business. The Shimada higher ups didnât like that and asked Hanzo to straighten out his brother then some stuff happened and Hanzo supposedly killed Genji and blah blah blah. Anyways Genjiâs story at least I donât see has sexism he wasnât frown upon cuz he was a guy but cuz he wanted to live a life in luxury instead of being all Killy and what not. I guess you could say they expected him to be all Killy cuz he a guy but they also expected Kiriko to be all killy and she ainât a guy and also his father was the one that spoiled him. Kirikoâs story also from what I can tell doesnât have sexism cuz she was split between picking between healing or killing cuz her mom didnât believe in the fox spirit which we will learn in her cinematic anyways she wasnât ostracized cuz she a girl only cuz she couldnât pick between healing and killing which she would end up picking both and she wasnât exactly ostracized I was just exaggerating to make a point but Iâm sure you got the idea.

It was recently confirmed that in the present, Kiriko is 21 years old, Hanzo is 40, and Genji is 37. How they met when they were all kids despite the massive age gap is some next-level incompetent writing.
ok so I used to assume Hanzo was atleast 6 years older than Kiriko but noooo he's 19 years older HOW WAS HE 19 WHEN KIRIKO WAS BORN
Kiriko trained with Hanzo and Genji when she was around 7 as we can see in the video, yet Genji is atleast 23 when shes 7 and Hanzo, 26.

I like how she's very loving and family-oriented while also carving her own path in terms of her skills. So many stories of "carving my own path" involve major conflict between parents and kids, it's refreshing to see that's not the case here!

True, but thats because kids in general tend to want to do things differently from their parents and that creates conflict which is easy to write. But you're right, its good to see a young person want to innovate and do things differently whilst still paying homage to her family and roots.

I love how at the end there are just five more awesome looking characters thrown in... I'm interested in learning about who they are as well. Like D.Va's team they would make for cool additions to the roster.

Probably never gonna happen though. They've done today all the time with new heroes. Showing them with groups of other characters who look like great potential player characters, but only like 10% of them ever make it.

It's crazy that even though Genji, Hanzo and Kiriko were once all in the path of the blade, they all went their separate ways. Hanzo, his regret led him to never picking up a sword again and mastering the bow and arrow. Genji, once broken and lost, but soon found inner peace and forgiveness and stuck with the blade. Kiriko, chose the traditional path and to be protected by the fox spirit.
That's a lot of waffling on about fictional characters. I don't get why people take this so seriously. It's a game, characters don't need to justify why they exist in the game.

The tengu girl with the fans, the tanuki guy with the crossbow, the oni guy with the sword, the kasa-obake and the kappa omnics really caught my attention! So their gang are like yokai inspired. I hope they're future heroes!

Ooooh!! I love her teammates designs! Each one seems to be based off a different Japanese mythological being, with her being based on Kitsune, and her teammates seemingly each based on Kappa, Kasa-Obake, Oni, Tengu, and Tanuki!! I really hope we'll see more lore about all of them in the future, and maybe even get to play as them someday!!
I might be wrong, but the "Tengu" one looks more like an Amabie to me, due to the beak and then scales and blue patterns, like a fish

Wait a second, people actually thought the dragons were nanotech? I mean, Overwatch is a very technologically advanced world, but I always thought it was pretty obvious that they were spirits. Even Hanzo said that only Shimadas can control the dragons

I love how Overwatch is all about sci fi war with robots, intelligent animals, Mad Max Australians, a guy with a giant hammer, and then thereâs Hanzo and Genji and Zen and Kiriko with magic. Not like Moira and Reaper since their ability stem from genetic manipulation, I love how diverse Overwatch is with these settings
Previously, developers said it wasn't magic but this seemingly retconned that. I'm for it, but yeah. A weird decision.

Read 'Gachiakuta'. It is made by the successor of Ohkubo (the guy who made Soul Eater and Fire Force).
One of the characters uses an weaponized umbrella! He's badass but we've only seen him in action like 1-2 times only so far.

As someone who has 2 older brothers in a Japanese family, I can relate a lot with Kiriko! This may be the character that'll bring me back to Overwatch after a long hiatus!

Wow, these stories keep getting better & better, especially how they intertwine with others, whoever brief. Hearing Kiriko saying "Defending others who can't defend themselves," reminds me of why Zane was built in the Lego Ninjago series.

I think Japan and East Asia as a whole is easily the most fascinating and beautiful part of the Overwatch universe. It's so well done - from China, to South Korea, to Japan, all locations and events tied to these countries are so visceral and wonderful.

A few days ago I made this comment on the Kiriko gameplay trailer:
âI find it funny how everything in Overwatch is explained through technology, but with Japanese culture, it's just straight up spirit magicâ
And there was some good back and forth in the replies. Some dismissing the magic idea, some supporting it, some explaining the magic through technology, and so on. A lot of fun and interesting takes were made on this game with rich lore that we all love. But I think this origin trailer CONFIRMS that the fox, and by extension the dragons, are ACTUAL spirit magic, not futuristic technology that looks like magic. We did it bois. Full Sci-Fi Fantasy achieved
