I enjoy sewing more now than ever and I'm retired. I started sewing in gradeschool 5th grade and then in junior high I took Home Ec. My mother always sewed and I watched her. My first love I thought was Cosmetology and did that after high school. I'm so thankful I was offered a job sewing in Upholstery and did that later in life and then retired but now I get to sew for leisure and it's the BEST! My life is complete with my sewing machine and Jesus! I'm enjoying your channel. 🤗

I love the colour of the mockup dress on you! Moving is exciting but so stressful! I hope everything falls in place for you and your family.
Nice spending time with you. Happy sewing!

I learned from my mom. I have been sewing a long time and still learning. I love that dress pattern. I've made 7 or 8 dresses from that pattern.

Hi Lisa! I'm so sorry I've been so behind in watching. I also wanted to mention that I tried the molasses for leg pain and oh my goodness, it worked. I also included some of your other suggestions. Thank you! I love your crate cover. I need to get with it and you're even moving! And you're with it! lol! I laughed at your description of refugee camp brown dress. It's pretty! Love that one! Take care in the packing and sorting...you are one busy lady and I have no excuse! I wear shorts, long short and a shirt in our pool! Take care and thank you for the inspiring video! I'm going to restart my sewing. Love and hugs, Jeanie xxoo

Hello Jeanie! Oh I’m so glad the molasses helped! You know, winter is coming and I think there will be more time to catch up on videos then. I’ve slowed down a bit this week due to serious insomnia. I had one good nights sleep in 6. It’s seasonal with me so hopefully it will pass. Take care and it’s a pleasure to have you stop by! 💕

Love the top😊 if I do a tester for knit I try to use another knit that has the same stretch. Walmart has some good cheap bundle deals if it's not in your store maybe try online? I get most of my knits from fabric mart they have sales all the time!! I usually wait till it's 65% off 😊 good luck on the move!
My home ec class was an ice cream pillow. I wish we would've done a garment! Everything I learned is self taught most pre-internet, when i found CZcams it was a dream!😍 I wish I would've had a sewing factory to work here!

Your dress turned out really good. Now you know how to tweak the pattern for the knit dress. I have never done a "practice" garment either but I probably should give it a try. I think you made great use out of all those jeans by turning them in to a dog crate cover. Good job! You know, I had a similar experience in Home Ec in junior high school. There was no tweaking of the pattern or the clothing, you just followed the pattern directions and put the garment together; if it fit properly that was a plus. I have attended many different quilting classes over the years but now I'm concentrating on sewing some clothing. I need to learn more about pattern adjustments. My favorite fabric store offers many wonderful classes and I'm even considering taking some of the beginning sewing classes. I consider myself kind of an advanced beginner but I have a lot to learn.
    Have a great week-end!

I wish there were classes near me. I’d like to take some, and I would have my girls take classes too. Thanks for stopping by Deb!

In answer to you question about learning to sew, My mom didn’t sew. I had two grandmas who sewed but I didn’t grow up around either one. I wanted to sew and someone gave me a treadle machine when I was in about the 5th grade. I had a friend whose mom made her clothes and I thought she dressed cute. In my naiveness I thought if her mom could make clothes so could I. I did some very beginner novice attempts and a lady in our church who lived close enough for me to walk to her house, gave me a few pointers. We had home ec. in the 8th grade and that helped a lot. Freshman home ec added a little more instruction but I hit the jackpot with my 10 grade home ec teacher fresh out of college. She taught us so much. We made lingerie, sewed with knits, sweat shirts and t-shirts, made lined prom dresses (I didn’t dance) so my dress was a fancy party dress. We made tailored coats, using horse hair interfacing and directional stitching. I chose an unbalanced plaid with 7 seams to learn as much as possible. We matched our plaids both vertically and horizontally. We did bound buttonholes and dress slacks. In talking with friends over the years I’ve come to realize that I was very blessed to have such a good teacher.
I really like the color of your mock up on you. I just discovered your blog and really enjoy it.

I had to smile about your sewing factory job. I worked one day at the factory near me and I knew that was NOT what I wanted to do with my life. 😁 I do love to sew, however.

That such sweet memories. My grandmother once took some leftover scraps from her daughters (my aunts) wedding dress and made a wedding dress and veil for my Barbie doll. 💕

@@LisaAnnSpencer My Gram made dresses from empty printed cotton cloth feed bags. So pretty. I watched and decided at 5 or 6 years old to make a skirt. I took the cloth off an umbrella and cut a jagged hole in the top to make a waist. So funny. They had pictures..LOL Grateful for everything my family taught me.
