    17 months postpartum and just came back to say this worked!!!! I did not have to push AT ALL. I walked around rocking until I felt him engaged and then got down in this position (knees in ankles out) with the next contraction and he came out in that one contraction!

    I think the most difficult part in that situation is to convince doctors and midwifes/nurses to not deliver on your back, because I feel like they just want to force you to deliver the way they're used to instead of giving you options. I'm due pretty soon and I've been doing some research lately on how there are much more convenient positions or breathing techniques, that will help with delivery and lower the risk of tearingy but I don't know how I'm gonna hold up to that pressure and basically defend my will against them in that moment.

      The main reason they encourage you onto your back is if you want an epidural, because you're going to lose all power in your legs & be unable to hold yourself properly in any position other than on your back or on your side. I hope you're delivery went well!

    This is how I pushed my 2nd baby out in the tub at home. My midwife instructed me to bring my knees together (I was in a sitting squat position while holding my husband's hands). With each contraction, I pushed and bent my elbows to engage my core. It worked really well! It was only 15 minutes of pushing compared to 5 hours of pushing with my first baby. They both got stuck in the same place (in transition with a cervical lip) but my 2nd midwife was more knowledgeable about positioning. Bringing the knees together really helped! Wish I knew this with my first baby instead of suffering for hours. Gonna share your videos with my sister, who's trying for her first baby. Every person should know this critical information!!

    I gave birth to my first baby in hands and knees position with two pillows under my elbows for additional support and this is by far the most comfortable position I've ever given birth in. Now, that said, every baby is different and every birth is different. I'm just so glad for this insight of opening up the pelvis area by simply changing position. Thank you so much for making this video. I really wish I had this information and illustration when I was birthing my breech baby. It really would've sped things up when it came to finally pushing my baby's head out the birth canal and resuscitation would not have been necessary. Thank you so much for helping to educate women, A Werking Mama. You're doing a great thing here! *HUGS*

    I told my mom I don’t want an epidural and before I could even finish she said “you’re going to want it, this isn’t a competition” it’s like ma’am, if I get an epidural I’m gonna have to be confined to a bed and birth on my back! I haven’t had a baby before but it just feels instinctual that I’m going to want to move and be on my hands and knees so I can open my pelvis. I’ve always hated being in that position at the obgyn, it was uncomfortable, I can’t even imagine trying to give birth like that. Of course that’s not to say it doesn’t work for others, me personally being upright and in control of my pelvis seems most natural for me. But we’ll see once I give birth!

    • @citychicken9949
      @citychicken9949 Před 2 měsíci +6

      Congrats on the new baby! My mom said the same thing lol. It's not a competition, but there is a feeling that you accomplished something amazing that no one can take from you 😊. If you do feel like you're going to want an epidural make sure you're not in "transition." Transition is no joke and I hear a lot of women ask for the epidural at that stage of labor, myself included. Luckily my husband and my nurse encouraged me to keep going and almost immediately after asking for the epidural I felt the urge to push. If you have the right mindset, you'd be surprised how much you can handle. And if you can't handle the pain that's alright, too. Everyone experiences pain differently and the goal is to have as much of a positive birth as possible for your circumstance. Good luck! ❤

    YOU are absolutely correct! Great video! Had my first and only birth at home-- birthed home on purpose and tried to get in water, which felt weird. Got on hands and knees and stayed like that for 7 hours until it was time sit in the birthing chair and 30 minutes later baby was out. Most of my labor was done on hands and knees (my labor was 9 hours total, 7 hours on hands and knees) to the point that my arms were sooo tired (could barely hold my baby after the birth) but it was just like you said. It happened easiest this way to get baby out which also surprised me at the time. Thought I would be in water. I didn't watch this video before my birth but sometimes you just can feel what is right or will work the best. I'm so grateful my body showed me and that I listened to mySELF all throughout my pregnancy! I would have taken notes on this video if i had seen it before my baby's birth. What I think needs to be discussed about more is postpartum changes for women. There's so many things that I went through that I was not ready for. I tore during birth and was sewn up. I didn't feel anything until a few days at home when the pain of peeing and walking became unbearable. I went to urgent care and discovered that my stitches had ripped open and I had a UTI. I never had a UTI before so I thought I just sucked at handling the pain from being sewn up. I was given antibiotics. A week later the pain was still too much so I went to my ob-gyn and he stitched me back up. It's 3 (almost 4) weeks postpartum and I'm still very tender and sore. I expected to be fully recovered already and many of my friends and family are surprised I'm not. I should have researched more as to what could happen after so I was mentally prepared.

    Hospital makes laboring so hard. My first experience was awful laying on bad the worse birth for me and luckily on my 2nd baby I refused epidural and went natural route no drugs and it was amazing I didn’t tear and since the doctor was late I got panic but I had a chance to choose the position I want so I did squaring position and I didn’t even had to push my body just did everything by itself so I don’t know if it was the position that helped me so much. I love giving birth on squaring position was so easy and pain free, I think laying back is so much more painful.

    2nd time mum here,I was very out of control of my first delivery, I ended up having to be induced and when it was time to push I was kind of instructed to push on my back in a brightly lit and noise filled room full of medical professionals, and it wasn't good, I'm actively pursuing a quieter more in control of the room experience this time. I defo dont want to push on my back again, i'll be looking through all your videos, thank you!! Xx

I wish I had known them with my first or was made aware to research it like I did with pregnancy, breastfeeding and parenting but it never crossed my mind that I should learn how to push the baby out lol. I ended up with 3rd degree tears and losing 3 L of blood because of small things like leg position (I’m assuming now after watching this) so thank you!!!!

    As a ND, having delivered my children, try squats in advance to make your pelvic tissues flexible. You, like many intuitive women, may choose to use gravity to your advantage and have a squatting birth on a mat or padded floor, using catch towels on a bed of pillows. You or your partner can practice catching in advance, so It’s second nature. Squatting is the most comfortable position I’ve seen; quick and gravity assisted with minimal, if any pushing needed. Perineal massage or stretching will pay off with “crowning “.

    I just had baby #6, it was the fastest easiest labor yet! (#5 took 13 hours, 4 of those in transition, and ineffectual pushing) This birth was the first one where I actually got to deliver on hands and knees and not my back. It was entirely reflexive! I didn't have to actively push at all in the knees in ankles out position! It was beautiful. Combined with "horse lips" breathing, everything was so smooth, my midwives called it a "butter birth" ❤ thank you tremendously for this. It was the most empowering birth experience I have ever had.

    A position where gravity is used is prime, such as squatting, but if you don't want to or can't do that and you are on your back, push like you are having a bowel movement. I was a Maternity nurse and we'd tell this to our first time moms. I know it sounds disgusting and embarrassing but if a woman has a BM on the table, she is actually pushing with the right abdominal muscles to aid the uterine contractions. A BM also can occur because the level of progesterone decreases. As a nurse, I saw the difference in the progression of the birth when a mom was using the muscles responsible for a BM with the contractions. They were more effective. The hormone Relaxin is released throughout pregnancy and also makes the ligaments of the pelvis more flexible, allowing more space for the baby to descend down the birth canal.
