This is a movement. Alex G's stuff mobilizes you, it really makes people make art, he's tapped into something crazy. i think this could be potentially super huge for art and how we think of scholarship (weird turn I know but bare with me) When it comes to studying art and language music and lyricism are seen as layman or mass culture which keeps them from being taken seriously by academia. If being a scholar of musical artists is possible, alex g may join the ranks of those that are studied and written about in academia. There is really really something to what he makes.
It taps into core human emotions in the same way that Lennon and the Beatles music did in the 60s. They inspired a similar movement of singer songwriter music being studied
