- A quick and easy tip on how to measure cord/rope for macrame plant hangers, wall hangings or any other project using body length measures. craftedbyceri.com
Using body measures is a great way to measure a lot of rope quickly. Be creative and work with a measure that is easy for you to keep the maths simple. I am lucky that the measure I use from my fingers to my opposite shoulder, arm fully extended measures exactly 1m (39.3 inches).
You could try some of these body length measures:
* Arm extended, fingers to first shoulder
* Arm extended, fingers to opposite shoulder
* Arm extended, fingers to the centre of your collar bone
* Arm extended, fingers to your nose (my mum always turned her head away - maybe it will add a few extra centimetres to make a nice round number for you)
* Both arms fully extended, I've not tried this myself as my limbs are quite long and I think this would measure too much for me. But give it a try if the others are not working out for you.
The best thing is that once you measure these up with a measuring tape once - the length is unlikely to change at all if you are using the same technique every time. It took me a while to trust it with repeat measuring and my workshop and school class students have tested me on it before. It works for me every time.
I'd love to know what you think if you give it a try. Let me know if you have any other suggestions or have any other questions about measuring rope that you would like answered that I could cover in another tips and advice video.

You mean my little rapunzal tower one?
@@CraftedbyCeri I guess I don’t know the name of it but it’s very interesting and so cute it’s just by itself by the mirror do you have a pattern for that?
@@kerrieinverso1350 No, I can remake it but it was just a little experiment one time that I made up. It uses a crown knot.

Yes, very useful. This is the way even I measure 1 metre.
Oh wow ! That’s exactly the way I measure one mtr. Didn’t think anyone else did that way !! Ancient wisdom , huh !!!
Haha. Think they were much wiser in ancient times! 😂
Yes ! I do the same
Perfect !! Thank you Ceri !!
Do you have a pattern for a 3 tier plant hanger..hahaa I see one reflected in your mirror !! Looks beautiful !!
Good eye! That was my first ever Macramé project I made which was totally freestyle inspired by a few videos on basic plant hangers. I tried to jump to expert straight away lol!! I’ll look at my notes and see if I have the measurements for you! I’d love to revisit this, it has loads of imperfections in that remind me of how i started to learn ❤️
@@CraftedbyCeri Love your tutorials and macrame creations !! Why Thank you Ceri so much !! ..it would be much appreciated !! Thank you for taking the time !! 🥰
Sharon Swanson are you on social media? I’ve got some pictures, no original measurements, I checked. But I have made a guesstimate from looking over it. I didn’t make that many knots bar the top design.
@@CraftedbyCeri Hi I am on Facebook with Messenger ...

So clever! I am going to start doing this. Tho' my arm measure is about 78cms lol!
SolveigAvina oh no. Maybe to you opposite elbow crease?
Thank you! :)
nicolemi13 your welcome
If i want to cut 2m cord so i need to measure 4m
Alfiya Khan measure using one body measure, perhaps from one hand to the opposite shoulder like I did, once you’ve measured it once, you’ll always have a shortcut without a ruler to measure your rope. Give it a try
My mother measured fabric the exact same way! 🤣 👃🏼
Ahahaha. To the nose!!!
I love your hijab
Assalamulaikum

Ive been asked to cut a 65m cord into 26 length s of 2.5m. This is Chinese.
