  • We have titled this video ‘Top 10 laminated…’, but retailers like us are obliged to come up with grandiose headings like this in order to get noticed by Google’s robots.
The truth, however, is that we’re merely highlighting 10 of our favourite laminated jackets. And that means jackets that do different kinds of jobs for different kinds of riders; and jackets that hit different kinds of price points to suit different kinds of pockets.
We don’t do all the brands out there, so of course this is not a comprehensive review. We’re just talking about jackets from the brands we work with, but we do tend to gravitate towards some of the better brands, so we still think you will find here some of the nicest laminated jackets on the market.
The world has certainly gone a bit ‘laminated’ mad recently, and of course this kind of unthinking adherence to a particular technology happens in all markets.
Now, much is we recognise that laminated is the only way to go for some motorcyclists, we still tend to the view that most motorcyclists will be better off with a traditional drop-liner, or z-liner, garment. In anything less than three or four hours of rain you will still stay dry in a drop-liner garment. But, certainly, at the entry-level end of the market, a drop-liner garment will be more reliable. It will also be more comfortable, it will be warmer, and it will offer better value..
But once bikers have learned something from a guy they meet at a biker café, they are not easily swayed. No two ways about it, by the time many bikers come to visit us here in the shop, their minds are set. They not only want, but in their opinion, need, laminated. So be it. Who are we to get in the way of someone’s heartfelt desires?Although what is true is that it is becoming increasingly difficult to find good-quality drop-liner outfits. And that’s because the manufacturers are also sheep-like in their tendency to follow trends!
Anyway, it is what it is. You can watch the entire video to try and understand the differences between a number of jackets. Or, you can click on one of the links below to learn a bit more about a jacket that particularly appeals to you.
Either way, good luck. But the bottom line is this. You will still benefit from coming to see us, because if the best suit in the world doesn’t fit you, or work for your kind of riding, it will simply be your next, expensive mistake. We’ve all made them. As we see it, it’s our job to help you escape the cycle!

Chris, I once talked with a gentleman from John Rigby & Co. about restoring an old magnum length square bridge Mauser action from a 1910’s .350 Rigby (R), to a .375 H&H. The gents I dealt with remind me very much of you: total professionals and if they had an opinion, there was a solid basis for it.
Keep giving this great content. Hopefully, I can cross the pond soon and come see you guys for some Rukka. 👍🏻

Good review Chris...so much great kit to choose from these days. One thing i think manufacturers should take into account is the placement of the vents on these jackets...myself and many of my friends wear rucksacks whilst riding and the vents are often obscured by the straps of the rucksack. Cheers Steve

great review Chris. I never miss a video, that might explain all the MotoLegends Merchandise in my closet. I really like the new zoom in's on the details of the Jackets. LOVE it... with all the Jackets in my collection, I don't have a single Laminated Jacket yet.

Great Video! I have the Klim Latitude and it has performed wonderfully. I couldn't ask anymore from it. Fits perfectly and is very comfortable. Does everything. Best!

Great comparison review - Would like to add one of these for those colder /wet parts of touring but still think the multi layered system takes some beating.

Halverson's/ Lindstrands Sunne - the membrane fall completely apart in the arms after nearly two years. Luckily i was driving in the rain before the two year warranty period and realized that the jacket was faulty. Just glad that i got my money back.

What would you recommend as the best option.
I really need to keep warm because of arthritis in all muscles. The Rukka Nivala sounds great, but maybe too warm in the summer.
Would love to be able to ride most of the year (except in snow) 😊
I have been looking a little on Dane jackets also….
But it is a jungle to navigate in 😵‍💫
I ride Africa Twin, so not too tight clothe, but comfortable and light for my muscles (i know i am difficult) 😂

I have the Klim Kodiak pants and jacket and I like them both very much. I would agree with Chris about the pants armor. I'm 6' 2" and have the size 56 pants. I have moved the knee armor to the lowest position and it is still too high in my opinion. Riding my BMW RT I'd say 1/4 of the knee armor is at or below my knee (in riding position) while 3/4 of the armor is above it; seems too high. For comparison, I measured the knee armor height of my Klim Kodiak pants to my Olympia Airglide pants. The pants are basically the same length. Measuring from the cuff up to the bottom of the Airglide knee armor I get 11". The equivalent measure on the Klim (remember the armor is in its lowest position) is 15.5"!! So I can position the Olympia knee armor 4.5" below the Klim knee armor. The only other observation I'd have is that the Klim velcro collar tab is too short. When I wear the puffy jacket and a heated liner it is very hard to keep the collar closed with velcro (neck area has too much volume). This is where the storm collar really helps out.

Supplmentary: Returning to motorcyling at 70 after 6 year hiatus. At 63 i hit a deer at 100kmh. wearing a klim latitude suit (probably 1st version circa 2007). and d3o armor.and an 11 year shoei multitech helmet. Injuries: Broken clavicule,6 borken ribs,no concussion no abrasion except at velt level because jacket was unzippped from bottom for comfort. Jacket looked like i had been attacked in front by grizzly bear, helmet looked grinded with an industrial grinder. Deduced that if i had been wearing an air bag i would have walked away. Now looking for a jacket with enough room for expansion of alpinestar airbag, and also capable of wearing inner warm layer for early srping and winter riding in Canada....
???will you deliver to canada???how about fitting without visiting your shop???

The Supervent has been discontinued, and we are not so keen on the jacket that has replaced it so, for now, Stadler doesn’t really have anything for us. We haven’t made a big announcement because we don’t want to embarrass Stadler. We hope that they will have something for us in the future because the brand is amazing. CP

Im amazed not to see arguably the best laminate jacket on the market which is the treasure pro , that jacket combined with the all 4 pants i just dont think it can be beat , its a shame to see the best not around , i would put the treasure pro and all4 pant combo along with there gloves and a pair of roadstar gtx boots up to any Pepsi max challenge against anything else out on the market , possibly the best outfit money can buy

They are basically the same. Designed by the same team, and made in the same factory. In Sweden, the names stand for different things, but not over here. We have always called both brands Halvarssons. It’s easier than marketing two separate brands that, from our perspective, are identical. Sorry about the confusion. CP
