Thanks but watching it now it looks so little league compared to what he's doing in his first year of college and he's gotten so much better with that switch hitting which he rarely uses unless the coach tells him to. It's crazy, going from little league to travel ball and high school then to college each level is "amazingly different"! He's hitting off guys throwing 95+ now, nobody there is weak and you always have 50 guys behind you wanting your position! Actually, as much as I wanted him to be a utility he's always been a first baseman and catcher, never wanted to do anything else (not the best advice) but he's got 10 others from walk-on's to upper class man "all first baseman" wanting his spot and he knows it. It's scary because of the covid, they are talking about pushing the upperclassman who didn't get an opportunity last season the spot and he'll have to play second fiddle till next year. It's baseball though, anything can happen for sure!
Hey man i commented on this a month ago and i’ve been practicing for a while and i can now hit every speed at the batting cages now (nighthawk right?) just a few moths ago i was making very weak contact on medium but now i can hit across the machines on Very Fast mode. Thank you i hope you are doing well...
His first position is first base and second is catcher. He has a great batting average through the seasons but no official being that covid has most facilities closed right now. His college right now for instance are working on via Zoom!!! No games, no practice together but this is his first year and covid created a situation where most college freshman are redshirted their first year anyway because the upper classman of last year who got knocked out due to covid now have first position. He is in two travel ball teams and plays on what is known as the "Best of the West Coast" league so all of his ball play is out of state right now. We live in So Cal which is very tight on no play right now but he's playing a lot in other states that lifted the limit and allows ball play most of which is Arizona. Best advice..Just keep working out, get in as much batting practice especially personal training as possible because regardless of position if you can hit, you'll be put on the team! When colleges come to scout you out like with my son he was able to kind of wheel and deal his position to be guaranteed if he committed to the college of his choice but yea this is an old video, you should see this guy now, he's a beast. Also, start a collection of videos and build an online resume of games and highlights, scouts look for that! Good luck to all you guys here.
How many balls get thrown to the batter per session? I used to play at a batting cage we had at this place in town but it's not there anymore as it also had a golf course and a snack bar there too. But the little place isn't there anymore. I sure miss that place. But how many baseballs does the machine launch at the batter per batting session?
Wow, honestly I don't know about it nowadays, this is a rather old video of my son who's now in his third season of college play. I'd honestly be guessing if I said, so maybe someone else who reads this may know the real answer and I'm sure it varies but from what I recall several years ago, I'd say a dollar would get you about 20 pitches or so on a coin machine but in most cases like as in this video, most facilities charge by the hour so I use to just pay for an hour a day for him and let him have fun. Not a bad investment seeing it and well, a lot of other investments like travel ball, etc eventually got him a full ride for four years of college which like with my older daughter who got several scholarships paying a large portion of her college, private universities are expensive at around $50k-$60k a year. I will (as a proud dad) say that a big part of that wasn't just athletics on both their parts but also outstanding academic grades so whether you are asking for yourself or your children, take life serious, do your best in all you do, pick something you'll be great at and go for it because going to college is no joke anymore (financially).
@@PatriotCoinRings Judging by the fact you told me something very accurate and your son is going through college and you've given me your best, educated answer and it's an honest one. I believe it. That, and I do understand that school or college is never a joke since it's the one thing that can give us a future.
Most cages are rated for their speed but you can always bring a speed gun with you if you don't think it's accurate and most cages will have one on hand for you to borrow as well.
Just confirmed with a speed gun, the cage does in fact pitch between 80-85 MPH with slight fluctuations with each pitch. I also asked onsite staff and they said they will sometimes manually turn it up as high as 90MPH but 85MPH is what you should expect when hitting in that cage.
Damn. Didn’t realize the right was his switch. Thought maybe he was just getting used to the speeds or pretty young. Dude hits well from that side. And his natural stance looks almost perfect to me. Minimal movement. Generating most the power from the feet up with power elsewhere to catch up. I just love baseball. Yo in California in San Bernardino at the cages I broke a TPX in half connecting with 90+ once. That’s like my most viewed pic on my google reviews or whatever lol.
Yea, this was before high school and the coach was scouting him but in his travel ball games he prefers a left stance so they asked for a video (thus this was really meant just for the high school coach back then). I appreciate the kind words, I crack up with some try to criticize a young man. Matthew ended up doing pretty good getting a full college ride although with the covid it's sucking right now "but" he doesn't have to pay for anything and my only two cents, no matter how bad I thought someone was I wouldn't put them down for posting a video. I was a baseball coach for 14 years myself and like you I might politely critique, that's a given in baseball but for the most part the comments on this video that was really only intended for his high school he's now since graduated from (time fly's by fast) have been pretty nice. Thank you for your kind input.
@@mattcondones1 Appreciate the heads up though, I've coached a lot of teams over 14 years and have to tell the boys not to bring their game bats to the cages all the time.
Nice of you to ask but no and although I started explaining, the explanation was far too long so it got erased. I'll try to summarize. He's class of 2020 so his Senior year in HS got blown out and his Freshman year of College never saw a single game. All baseball players just zoomed working out in their own garages but if you are a ballplayer you know what I mean. What really sucks is the way the athletic department of all colleges are dealing with this is they are allowing upperclassman to continue an extra year and play down meaning all class 2020 athletes are either redshirted or will just be sitting in their Sophmore season coming up but all class 2020 is being skipped class of 2021 will be filling the void to bring everyone back to normal. It's very very confusing but unless you were already pulled to the minors than no class of 2020 is left with a bag of rocks. In short, Matt knows he's not good enough for pro ball but he is at least getting a full ride in college which we have to be grateful for. He just switched colleges to a college that isn't quite as strong as the college he is attending now so he will be guaranteed lots of playtime in his sophomore year (last year of JC before going to a 4-year university) and we already have 4-year university scouts interested in him so he'll probably get 2 more years with them but that's just about as far as we think he will go honestly. We are very grateful for the opportunity though because his entire college has been and will be paid for in full with priority counseling and courses being a student-athlete so while covid kicked him in the ass as for any opportunity to go to the minors (other than trying a walk-on attempt), he will have had his college all taken care of which in itself is a blessing. p.s. The new college who recruited him did have them play down in San Diego last weekend, he did fantastically but there was a full-blown fight between both teams jumping out on the field throwing blows after a father jumped onto the field so the game was stopped and the following game canceled. He said at least he had four great up to bats and it felt great to be on the red dirt again! Can you believe that was the short version of the story...LOL Thanks again for asking and good luck if you are out there trying to play ball yourself in this covid mess!
