    I watched a Gregory Hines special and Sammy Davis Jr. was in the audience.
    Davis got up and walked to the stage ... an old sick man, he became stronger with every step toward that stage.
    He did an impromptu performance, and Hines got down on his knees and kissed Davis' feet.
    When Davis walked back to his seat he became an old sick man again. Heartbreaking and yet his strength to perform was inspiring.
    Davis wrote an autobiography "Yes, I can" I highly recommend.

      Was a seat filler at an awards show about 100 years ago (okay just 30). Sat next to him.
      (Oh, seat fillers are “civilians” drafted to make an event venue look full for camera. About 1/4 of the people you see at the Oscar’s are “civilians”. Why? The taping of an 🥇 show is incredibly long and boring. No one in their right mind WANTS to go, but it’s obligatory. Some actors are so unnerved by these events that they bring their Mommy instead of their underwear model/baby mama. It’s a little saddening, Galactica Actual. We should have compassion for their torment. If the Emmy’s, for example, existed during the crusades, the Iron Maiden would never have been invented.

    • @Cliffjumper24
      @Cliffjumper24 Před 4 lety +15

      There are three layers present in this movie that show the difference in cultures.
      1: Russia vs USA
      2: Black vs White (Although it's not a massive barrier between the Raymond and Rodchenko characters, they manipulate Colonel Chaiko's racism to getting Darya back), but it also shows the division in American culture.
      3: Ballet vs Tap (For Ballet, people dress up in ballgowns and tuedos, but "The rich don't patronise tap" (quote from the movie), so people watch it in their normal clothes.

    • @TarasTarot

      The director makes an amusing statement in the audio commentry on the DVD.
      He says that actors get bored when sequences take a long time to film, causing them to lose consentration.
      Dancers, on the other hand, because of their repetitive training system, are used to doing the same thing over and over again until they get it right!
      He also said there's a truism, that choreographers are sadists, and dancers a masochists!!
