  • Papa Enuma Okpa goes through the oration that preceeds all Igede assemblies, then touches on the history of the Igede people and role of all Igede clans. Pa Enuma's family line has performed this function for the Igede for centuries. Recent spokesmen included his father, the Late Okpa Enuma and his uncle, Late Odigiri Enuma.

Good for you. My mother was Ochoche and Papa Enuma, the narrator of this history, was my mother's uncle. It's their family's responsibility to welcome the Igede to national gatherings, especially at Ujegbe, the ancestral village of the Igede. Papa Enuma was a descendant of Ite, the first King when the Igede arrived from Ora. The second King was from Ochoche. We will try and build more of this history.

Sadly, Papa Enuma Okpa died during the week. The great Ochoche Ojoko will have to find another Adikobia for the Igede people. Papa Enuma has done an excellent job since taking over from his father, the Late Papa Okpa Enuma. He is survived by two wives and 4 daughters, but no surviving male child, to replace him in this role. However, Papa Enuma is survived by several articulate speakers from the the loins of Adada Ite, the first King of Igede. Once one of them is appointed, the powers of our Father, Agba, will be bestowed on him and he will become even more articulate.
As a child, I watched Papa Okpa (d. 1976) and his brother, Odigiri Enuma (d. 1974), who was Adikobia before him. One of my cousins, the Late Ezekiel Oboh, made several attempts to at least record an audio of Papa Odigiri but it was futile. The old man detested modern technology and believed that once he was recorded (go ohwu, in Igede language, which directly translates as "taking of breath"), he would pass away. In fact Ezekiel made several attempts to record him but Papa Odigiri would not speak once he saw Ezekiel with a radio set, including sets that had no recording function! I am not sure if anyone tried to record Papa Okpa - I was old enough then but had no resources since I was still in secondary school. So there is some short history of my own. May Papa Enuma rest in peace. I am sure the entire Igede would be formally informed by the Ada l'Ochoche.
I salute my mother's brother, the new Ada Utu, HRH Chief Ero, an Ochoche (Anchim) and wish him well on the throne of the Igede. It was sad for him to lose his son and my condolences on the loss. May God grant us all the fortitude to bear the loss and the several almost epidemic losses across the land.
Prof Paul A. Iji, on behalf of Igede Heritage Channel.

Thanks, Dandy. I wish I could post more. I have just returned from home. I do have a lot of material but do not own the copyright. The best thing really is to upload some of these materials (particularly gospel music on my other channel) but some of the people who own the copyright do not understand how CZcams works. It will give them access to the world but no immediate financial benefits - CZcams does not pay until around 100 000 views or substantial money from adverts. I would like to help our artists, including my cousin, OT-One, but do not want to be seen as cheating them. I have not received a cent from CZcams. I will celebrate if any of the Igede artists can make it into big money. If anyone is in a position to help the artists, speak to them and help them.

BIAFRA IS GREAT Biafran the origin of igede people can be traced Ora in edo state but our behavior is more of Igbo dan that of Hausa or Yoruba

Igede are found in Benue (the third largest group, after Tiv and Idoma). They are not a sub-group of Idoma but distantly related. More recent investigations reveal that they are of Bini royal ancestry, first moving to Ora in Owan and then migrating to their present place.
