  • Dresden is an attractive, lively and safe town. The Hilton Dresden is perfectly located on the River Elbe - about a 20-minute walk from the main train station.
This video is compiled from several visits and shows a corner room and a duplex suite.
The lobby is large as it also includes the restaurant used for the breakfast buffet.
The reception desk staff are really friendly and speak English.
As Hilton Diamond, we've always been upgraded. On the first visit, to a corner room and subsequent visits to a duplex suite.
    Corner Room
The room had all that you would expect from a higher-category Hilton room; bathrobes, slippers, digital safe, comfortable bed, working a/c, clean, bathroom with some amenities, plus free wi-fi for Hilton Gold/Diamond. The wi-fi was good in the room and around the hotel.
There was a UK plug socket available as well as the standard European sockets. Sadly, there were no USB sockets.
The view from the side window was lovely.
As was the main river view window. I'd recommend a corner room if you can get one.
    Duplex Suite
The duplex suite is an interesting design. You enter into a downstairs room with sofa, chair and TV. Some duplex suites have a downstairs toilet - if you're a family and intend to use the sofa bed, that downstairs toilet would save disturbing those sleeping upstairs.
The view from the small window wasn't anything exciting.
In the corner of the room is a spiral staircase - no downstairs toilet version.
    Downstairs toilet version.
At the top of the staircase is a bedroom, bathroom and raised floor with dining table and desk.
The view was more interesting - sadly this wasn't a terrace and could only be used in case of emergency.
The bathroom was clean and modern - just a bath with shower and not a separate shower.
The suite had all that you would expect from a higher-category Hilton room; bathrobes, slippers, digital safe and a comfortable bed.
The TV had plenty of multi-language channels, only one English channel was news.
    Executive Lounge
The First Floor Executive Lounge is a good size and comfortable.
    Happy hour is 5 - 7pm.
As usual the lounge is busy during happy hour.
The food offering includes soup, sandwiches, salad, crudités, nuts, bread and cheese.
    Pool
The pool is deep and pretty cold - but it's nice to have a facility in such as central town location.
    Breakfast
Breakfast was served in the main lobby restaurant. Here the restaurants was set up for an evening conference dinner.
It's not terrible, but there's nothing special about the buffet offering.
You can have sparkling wine with your breakfast - but have to ask your waitress. It's fun to watch other diners realise that this is an option and a slow wave of requests for wine happens across the restaurant.
    Overall
Dresden is a lovely little town and the Hilton is good value if you can snag a rate around the 120 Euro mark - it's a comfortable place to stay and is our regular hotel whenever in Dresden. The corner room is better than the duplex suite - the novelty of the spiral staircase wears off after one climb.
