    If anyone here is wondering about how to keep them warmer during the winter seasons or just in your home that you keep cooler, you can insulate the top vent of your enclosure (NOT ALL OF IT PLZ) with some foil, or place a heating pad on the rear wall of the outside of the enclosure (i use exoterra enclosures with the rockwall backing, pad on lowest heat setting, helps keep all the heat from passing into the enclosure while maintaining heat inside). Monitor your temps as closely as possible if anything worries you.

    I'm planning on getting a crested gecko in a few months, but I'll have to work through my bug phobia a bit :/
    a friend that owns reptiles said I could just feed worms sometimes- and otherwise use the food mix that includes bugs and the one that doesn't 50/50

    • @tmreptile
      @tmreptile  Před 9 měsíci +2

      I personally use the Pangea brands of food. Very simple to make. You just mix water with the powder until you get a ketchup consistency and you’re good. And then I offer bugs weekly as well.
      As far as the phobia of bugs, try to think of it this way. The crickets or roaches you’ll be feeding your gecko won’t hurt you. They don’t even think like that. They realistically won’t even bite. I’ve never ever had an issue. Using rubber tipped tongs would also be a good idea and then you don’t have to touch them or anything else.
      Hope that helps a little!

    I just recently got a crested and I have him in a 12x12x18 pvc enclosure. I am using reptisoil and spring tails and I lightly misted it a day and a half ago and my hygrometer is still measuring 74 in the tank. So it hasn’t dropped humidity and I’m not sure what direction to go from here. The temps in the enclosure are pretty stable 70-73 with a thermostat

    • @HelloSkitty
      @HelloSkitty Před 10 měsíci +2

      I also put him in the basement and possibly with that plus the pvc enclosure it’s not ventilated well?

    • @tmreptile
      @tmreptile  Před 10 měsíci +3

      It kinda sounds like you need more ventilation in the tank or to spray a little less. It’s hard for me to say if you are heavy or light misting because to me you might be heavily misting but you would consider it light. Idk if that makes sense. You’ll just have to adjust how you spray to figure it out! Making sure the soil doesn’t get soaked is also important. So make sure you’re only spraying the wall(s) or plants is important too. They don’t need wet substrate. Just to be able to lick the water drops off the walls or plants

    What are some ways to control the temperature when you live in a house with one AC unit? If it’s too hot in my room, what can I do? And if it’s too cold, what are some ways to alter the temperature without adjusting the AC?

    • @tmreptile
      @tmreptile  Před rokem +5

      My best advice is to move rooms or levels in your house if it’s too hot. Chances are there’s a room somewhere that will be in their range.
      If it’s too cold I’ve heard of people using a small heat mat that’s plugged into a thermostat. They set it up so part of the tank gets a little warmer (it’s in their range). I usually advise against using heat but if you can guarantee it won’t get above their range you should be okay.

    • @tmreptile
      @tmreptile  Před 11 měsíci +2

      There’s a lot of factors that go into play. It’s normal for it to spike when you spray. And then it slowly goes down throughout the day. If it’s not going down throughout the day then I would say you’re either spraying too much and/or your substrate is holding too much of that water in. What substrate are you using?

    • @tmreptile
      @tmreptile  Před rokem +4

      It kind of sounds like you're explaining what flaring is. Flaring up is where your gecko shows all of its colors and they look very colorful. Flaring down is where they kind of look bland and don't have a bunch of colors showing. When they shed they get really pale and hazy looking as well! Try looking up some photos of flaring vs non flaring crested geckos and hopefully that'll help!

    I’ve had a crested gecko for 6 years and he’s never been aggressive or bitten me but lately he’s changed and whenever I grab him he always bites me and sometimes he lunges at me when he’s in the tank, whenever I take him out he seems to be okay and I’ve been letting him crawl into my hand and then lift him up rather then grabbing him, but the for the initial grab inside the tank always bites me, do you know why? He seems to be acting territorial but he lives alone

      Do you feed live bug’s occasionally? Most of mine have the same reaction but it’s usually in response to them thinking I’m about to feed them

    Do you add anything to their water to make it safe for them to drink??

    • @tmreptile
      @tmreptile  Před 7 měsíci +2

      I don’t rn. Currently I’m using well water that’s heavily filtered to get anything bad out (like over $5,000 in filter equipment). But when I move I’ll probably just use spring water or something

      I haven’t done this personally but I’ve heard organic top soil works well. You just want to avoid fertilizers or anything unsafe so make sure you research whatever you end up using!

      As long as you don’t keep your room lights on all night (messing up the day night cycle) that should be fine for sure

    How do you find out the gender of a crested gecko

    • @tmreptile
      @tmreptile  Před rokem +4

      The best way to tell adults apart is to look for the hemipenal bulge on males and females won’t have one (usually…although sometimes girls have a little bump). The other way is to pore sex them as juveniles to try and see what sex they are before they show physical signs

    Thankfully my crestie doesn’t like actual fruit that I prepare for her as a treat. The only thing she enjoys in fruit form are bananas-which I’m allergic to. She’s an old school lady who just wants her Pangea and crickets and occasional mealworms. Not waxworms-she doesn’t like them.
