Hi @dreamjellies I love your videos so much! I would like to let you know there is a high pitched sound coming from your voice over mic or recordings. I might have to do with a cable issue with the wiring. I love your content and I don’t want it to take away from your videos especially for people with sensitive ears. You might hear it if you turn it up loud to me I hear it more. Again I love your videos and consume them like a vacuum I just hope this can be addressed please!
Also since I record music I’ve had this issue before with the ringing in the high ends most of the time it is a connection issue be it cable or an issue with the microphone, or if you have a set of speakers that make noise or a ring, while recording it sometimes will get picked up.

fun fact, the song for nyan cat is a vocaloid song by daniwellp called, fittingly, Nyanyanyanyanyanyanya! the original version used hatsune miku and is still occasionally seen in live concerts to this day. the version used in nyan cat is a cover using the utau voice bank momone momo instead
YES I was always SO annoying everytime nyan cat was ever brought up I wouldn't be able to help myself from going "DID U KNOW MIKU SINGS THAT" even when it came up on the screen I just kept excitedly being like "Miku Miku Miku" it is truly an annoying song of all time but anything Miku related never fails to unlock my past Vocaloid special interest back up for a few minutes like a cursed pandora's box

Yup, I wish he got more recognition for that. I love his songs to this day, they're catchy and cool, and a big part of the fame that Nyan Cat had was thanks to that yet he didn't receive the credit he deserves?
Lolcats had such a profound effect on me as a kid to the extent that in year six (age about ten) for a creative writing assignment at school I wrote a short story where my cat learned to talk… and of course spoke Lolspeak with peak icanhascheezburger humour. Can’t remember what my poor teacher thought
Your teacher probably found it creative and a funny read, or they wouldn't have fostered an environment you felt truly creative, and if Im wrong and they were a shit teacher you are still the winner for using your imagination and writing about something you loved ❤

i once posted a picture of my dog sammy on the "i can has cheeseburger" site as a kid and someone captioned it and it got so popular they reached out to me and asked if they could publish the meme on greeting cards. i still have a couple of the cards, and even though sammy passed away a few years ago i'll always have that fond memory of the site, even if its incredibly cringey and hard to look at now. :")

Though I discovered Nyan Cat a little after he was extremely popular, I can relate. I just love the little guy, he's so amazing. I love the song, it made me laugh a lot and I found it so cool. I used to draw him on my notebooks and make my own Nyan Cat variants. Now it reminds me of that time in my life

Years later and I follow the adventures of several cat families, including Mejoo and cats, Claire Lovecat, and the house of Rachel and Jun. I also really enjoy watching videos from cat rescue agencies and fosters on TikTok!

I think part of the cat craze was brought on by America's Funniest Home Videos or AFV. They had a lot of cat videos and entire segments with cats and I feel like that kick started the cat videos online.
i remember when i was little i loved grumpy cat. i had a plush, a poster that said “i had fun.. once it was awful”, and started crying when my family was laughing at a grumpy cat meme that had the word “shit” in it because i was so upset she would say something so vulgar.
Not only Grumpy Cat was actually very sweet, her products also always had a percentage being donated to charity since day one

When I recognized the Neko Atsume music, I knew I was home. My favorite cat media is this short video of a cat at a window CLEARLY making barking sounds, until it realizes someone is recording and then it starts meowing like it got caught. I still reference that vid with my brother.

fun fact: nyan cat is actually a cover of a song written by someone called DaniwellP and sung by Hatsune Miku! The cover version was a demo song for a vocal called "Momo Momone", a Hatsune Miku inspired character for a similar vocal synthesis engine called utau (*cough cough i make vids using it check them out*)

You are definitely right about a new cat Renaissance. In 2020 my partner and I released a game on steam which was called Cats Organized Nearly. Back then when you typed in the word Cat we were one of the few cozy cat games. Doing that now there are so many it's almost impossible to choose.

It's quite a different brand of cat videos but warrior cats fandom is pretty big and has some crazy talented animators making all kinds of cool stuff. That's what defined my early internet cat fan era personally.

Admittedly, this was my entire childhood. If you were to name any random cat video on CZcams from the 2000s, I would have seen it. Keyboard Cat, Kitty Cat Dance, Kitty Said What (Probably the first youtube video I ever saw actually), even the more obscure ones like the Rathergood videos and the Meow Dance - I watched all of them as a kid. I even remember when it was announced that Keyboard Cat had been reincarnated back to life as a cat named Bento... yes, that was the actual explanation that was given. As for what made lolcats so appealing, as a kid it was something that felt like its own world to me. All of the cats had different personalities and their own thing going on, and it was fun to watch the captions that people would give them that made it seem like cats were just these tiny furry humans that only wanted to eat people's cheeseburgers and hang out with other cats. I remember making up scenarios in my head about the cats from different videos I watched all hanging out with each other and living in the same universe, because lolcats could after all, and any cat could be a lolcat. My favorite thing to do was watch those channels that had millions of videos that were just compilations of lolcat pictures put together in windows movie maker, usually called "Very funny cats" or "Funny cats 36" (depending on how many videos there were), they were low effort looking back but at the time it felt so new and exciting. I probably got a good majority of my music taste from the background music that would play in those videos too, which I don't know if I should be proud of or not. I learned what Scarface and Hawaii 5-0 were from their music being in the "Best Cat Video You'll Ever See" video. Didn't you?
As for flash games, I also played a ton of cat-themed ones. My favorite was probably Flash Cat, which I remember being the first game I ever beat. I remember a Christmas game on Y8 about a cat having to deliver presents to houses that was really hard, even playing it years later felt impossible, and another game I liked called Gutter Cat which didn't have a lot of effort put into it but I also remember being really hard. Never did play Sushi Cat, though. I guess I thought it looked too "cute" for me. I'm surprised to see Castle Cat mentioned in this video, that's a name I don't hear brought up very much. I remember thinking he was so edgy as a kid, to the point where I was almost intimidated. I almost played the 4th game in the series but the game beginning with an image of him calling the player a "fucker" made my 9 year old self close out of it. Looking back I'm glad that I didn't go through and play it, knowing now that the game over screen has real life gore in it and that the game ends with an off-screen sex scene. But weirdly enough regardless of all of that he's still somehow a really nostalgic character to me. Rumor has it that a 5th game in the series is being worked on.
I haven't looked at modern cat memes all that much, but from what I've seen it looks like an evolution from what we had as kids. They're honestly pretty similar, but more surreal and with more depth. I think that's a good thing. It's good to see what were once really samey memes evolve into something more complex and self aware. I hope that it keeps progressing from here honestly. I have a lot of hope.
one of my favorite modern day celebrity cats is Jinx, she not only provides content for memes but she's a really good way for people to get interested in learning how to care for special needs pets, and learning that disabled pets are the same as abled pets. (ive been noticing a lot of disabled cats more and more on tiktok/twitter and it makes me so happy to see these cats in front of the camera now)

I still remember how big of a thing famous cats were on the internet in the early 2010s. Grumpy cat, Lil Bub, Maru, Colonel Meow, Keyboard cat, Venus the two-faced cat, Hamilton the hipster cat, everyone knew those guys. I wonder what impact it had on the popularity of online cats when these guys passed away, because after them there never really came internet cats that could quite get as famous as them.
That and the way youtube recommends videos then vs now has changed a lot, and the internet wasn't as broad as it is now!
