He's right about her falling in love with both his sides. Belle fell in love with a monster who was a man; Lacey fell in love with a man who was a monster. Regina's memory curse doesn't change the basic nature of a person, just their backgrounds. I wonder if his experience with Lacey is part of the reason Rumple realized she loved all of him.
Full props to Rumple for being straight with her about the Dark One business - and about who he really is. No more illusions about an amazing 'man behind the monster.' I gotta say, I cheered when I saw this. FINALLY.

Lacey liked him like how the Evil Queen, her mom and her sis liked him. Because of his power and only because of his power. Belle loved him with power and even powerless
She does love the beast but she has morals. She's not a bad person so how can she accept Rumple when he only wants to be bad. But in this scene, the beast is stronger than the man, it's more dominant. You don't have to be bad to have power. He choose her unhappiness along with the power. She loves the beast but she doesn't want him to be that beast anymore, she wants to tame him because the beast only hurts people

I literally cheered when I saw this scene. I'm glad the writers finally let him lay it out for Belle how it really is. she knew who he was. you can't just decide to love only one side of a person. they love to condone his darkness until it's useful to them. And honestly the "heros" in this show are no different than him. they have all lied and murdered to get what they want soooo......anyways I love the duality of his character and excited to see where it goes from here!
Yup its the first time they had him call her out. People see Belle as sweet innocent poor thing being treated cruelly by rumple bbut no one sees she go some issues herself. The heroes are worse imo. he is straight up about it and most of the time if people stayed out fo his way or tried to genuinely help they ould be fine. The heroes often don't see the error of their ways, while rumple even when doing something good is seen as evil.

They were both really selfish in this scene. Belle said she loved him but only if he changed every aspect of himself. And Rumple refuses to do anything other what he wants and tells Belle to accept him. It's screwed up and thank god it was fixed by the end of S6

It blows my mind how easily everyone takes Rumple's side in all this. Yes, he is an interesting character. I get that but look at it from her perspective a moment. Their entire relationship is built on the chaos of never knowing what is real and what is rigged. The first time he saved her life was merely a trick. He literally "saved" her from his own minions. He promised her that he would be a better man and then he plotted the demise of the entire town except for her and Henry behind her back, making their entire marriage built on a lie. The darkness was expelled from him and he survived only to trick Emma and Hook into thinking they destroyed the darkness so he could reclaim it. He let them sacrifice themselves and their love for literally nothing. Now after all of this, after her brain has been pummeled within an inch of its sanity and her heart can't take anymore lies she finds out that she is pregnant and that what should be a happy moment is tainted by the knowledge that he has already sold their child. I understand that he made that deal long before he knew there would ever be a her but this ON TOP OF everything else and the giant cherry on top that he has zero remorse for putting her through any of this? She has every right to be angry. She has every right to question whether or not she wants a life with him at this point. At every opportunity he has chosen power over love and because of this she has every reason to believe that he will never put her or their child first. I loved this pairing in the beginning but I have grown tired of watching him make a fool of her and her compromise herself to be with him. I want them to be together but right now she would have to be an idiot with no self worth to take him back.

Rumple could have saved Belle by focusing on being a better man for her and their child, but once again he chose to resort to dark magic instead and when forced with a chance to make the right choice he once again proves that power is what he reaches for first. They keep saying that villains don't get happy endings but had his happy ending and he threw it away more than once.
Well, firstly, Rumple's had power for a couple of centuries, so it's become an essential part of him, like the ability to breathe or having two legs. So it's absolutely NOT surprising he keeps screwing things up while trying to choose between Belle and magic. He's right when he says, she'd fallen in love with both the man and the beast, she just has to find the courage to admit it.
Secondly, she's already changed him to the limit, making him use his dark magic for good, help her friends, he became a hero for her after all! But she must realise that if he loses magic, he will cease being the Rumplestiltskin she fell in love with: no more confident, sassy and humorous imp. GOD, PLEASE, NO.
Thirdly, he doesn't ask her to come back, he wants her to rethink her attitude, which gives her the wrong idea he can be a different person. And I think now she'll have to do it, as - obviously - she is freaking tired of beating her head against the same wall without thinking that there might be something else she could do.
I agree with her freaking out at the idea, their child was sold in advance, though.
I didn't say that I don't understand why it's a struggle for him but that doesn't change the fact that he keeps making the same mistakes with little to no remorse and forcing her to compromise her beliefs by asking her to condone evil is in no way okay. If Rumple is so hell bent on remaining the dark one then he needs to find someone who loves the darkness as much as he does because Belle doesn't. Love is supposed to make you better and yes, Belle makes Rumple better but at the cost of herself over and over again. I love the characters and the pairing but that does not mean I can't recognize when they are wrong or unhealthy and right now Rumple is wrong to ask her to accept all his present and future treachery knowing it goes against everything she believes. He is wrong to put his need for power above his true love and second chance at being a decent father. Prioritizing someone by disrespecting their feelings is not an act of love. He can claim that he puts her first but his actions say otherwise. His disregard for her feelings says otherwise. I want them to work it out and be a family, I really do but right now I don't think anything would change. Rumple hasn't shown that he would be any different with this new child than he was with Baelfire nor has he shown that he and Belle have any chance at a happy future together. After everything the godlike imp has done those are things that must be earned and quite frankly he hasn't shown any sign that he is willing to do that.

- You must get rid of darkness. Don't be the Dark One, your magic will ruin everything.
- How'that? I will be the most powerful man in the world, no one will harm us.
- Because I want you to be a hero and do good things.
- But I DO good things, simply by means of dark magic.
- No. It's either me or magic.
- But why do I even have to choose, if I can just reroute magic and do good things?

As far as I know, when you really love someone, you put up with some of their bad qualities eventually, you let themselves be. When something is vital for the other person, you can't really ask them to get rid of it - they naturally take it as disrespect and tend to act any way but the one, you told them to act. So the "disrespect and no remorse" matter is debatable.
I think Rumple has changed for the better about enough with Belle constantly nagging at him to fulfill her dreams of a hero-husband. It's just about time for Belle to realise that life is not a fairy-tale and people are imperfect.
You might be right about the second child, but again, I believe that with Belle he's going to be a much better father that at the time of Baelfire.
true, she fell in love with him when he was The Dark One, when he become a hero she didn't want him which encouraged him to go to the dark side again... so yeah she is in love with the beast but keeps denying it.

So many people here are like 'Why if she mad? He was trying to save his son's life and it was before he even met her!' But honestly, I get it. One, she's just mad in general at the situation. And two, really if you are going into a marriage with someone you ought to tell them things like, oh I don't know, you can't have a child together because you've sold my second born. I'm sure Belle probably wanted a family with him eventually and finding this out after they're already married is probably a big blow.

Also she should have been happy to receive the new but instead she is worried and sad. I'm honestly so pissed at the writers. Rumple loves Belle SO MUCH. This is so ooc for him. He would never give Belle an ultimatum like this. Seeing them destroy Rumple like this is ripping my heart to shreds.
And he never did. Ultimatum is a demand, demand that imply consequences if rejected. He didn't demand anything from her, he just said that he is who he is. It's not an ultimatum to say that you will not change yourself. And he gave her choice to accept him for who he is or not. Actually it's she who made ultimatum to him. She demanded from him to change or she would leave him. That's a classic ultimatum. And sadly I cant say that it's ooc for her. She's so judgemental.
He told her that she can only have happiness and a family if she accepts that he's both a man and a beast who's addicted to the dark one's power. He gave her a demand that would have consequences if rejected. That sounds a lot like an ultimatum to me. Belle only said she wan't going to make any decisions just yet. She never said she would leave him. Also, I can't believe you think Belle is judgmental like????? Belle is the epitome of a non-judgmental person. She accepted Rumple for who he was back in the enchanted forest. She also forgave Hook in season 6 despite his several attempts at killing both her and Rumple. She's friends with pretty much everyone because she's so kind and accepting. She's smart, resourceful, and taken for granted tbh. Judgmental is not a word I would ever use to describe her.
That maybe sounds like ultimatum, but it have absolutely no connection to the story. He never said that she can have happiness and family ONLY if she accept him for who he is. He said that she can have happiness and family with him if she do that. That's completely different story. For example if I'm alcoholic and demand that my wife should accept it and stop nagging me OR ELSE I leave her - that would be ultimatum. If I'm alcoholic and say that I will not change myself and she can accept me or, if she want, she could leave me (emphasis on that she could, not that she should) - that wouldn't be ultimatum, that would be just simple honesty from my side. She would be one who makes the choice, the choice that she feels she want.
Actually she she kind of did. She demanded him to change, not to use dark magic even for saving their child and then left him, because he didn't change.

they not only destroy Rumple. They also started to make Belle some whiny undecessive idiot, whos only role in OUAT is to find things in books. I used to wait for Rumbelle scenes in early seasons. But now every time they're on screen I get pissed of by his or her actions.
Like seriously Belle the bookworm left Rumple because dream son who didn't met either of them told her. Dream son who was nothing more than a fetus by that time and propably didn't even have a fully formed brain. Belle who NEVER EVER believed in some fixed desitny and unavoidable future.

Rumple and Belle love symbolizes what really love is. Love is not easy. It is chaotic and the fact that they keep finding their way back to one another proves that they meant for one another. Its destiny. Fate. Whatever you wanna call it.

Finally he is straight with her. The truth is Rumpel loves magic and the things he can do with it, but he also loves her. Something I never liked about the heroes, that is including Belle, was thinking that dark magic IS NEVER allowed to be used, and that it can only cause more problems, that killing is NEVER okay and that power is evil and bla bla bla. But that's simply not true, power can be used for good things, so can dark magic, and sometimes you have to kill people who are way to dangerous, imagine if PETER PAN hadn't been killed, or Cora, yeah, not a very happy ending. I just had to roll my eyes when Snow was "Traumatized" because she killed someone. Like Rumple said "You are all grown up now" so get over it. In the real world things are grey, not black and white, that's why the villains, to me, are much more likable, they feel more real than the heroes, they have flaws, and when it comes to wars and fights, they have a more realistic point of view of things and are willing to do what a lot of heroes aren't. Rumpel COULD save their child if he used dark magic, the only problem is Belle won't allow it. He always tricked her into thinking he could be a "Hero" when the reality is he can't, he is who he is, he can be a BETTER man that's for sure, but he never told her that. THE PROBLEM with Rumpel is that he is STILL a coward and always lied to Belle, I'm sure that if he had been straight with her before, they could have saved themselves a lot of fights and bickering. She expects him to give up something that is part of him, which he can't do. And he keeps lying to her. This isn't gonna work.
Up to now I have supported Rumple, making the argument regarding his complicated nature when a lot of viewers believed he was a pure villain incapable of change. However, I cannot help but think now that his obsession with power is going to be the undoing of his relationship with Belle. After all, she's the only character on the show that would give him the time of day. Hopefully the writers aren't headed toward the ending that I fear but I guess we'll just have to see.
I used to think Belle was going to take the Dark One power from Rumple and make herself the Dark One to save him. I doubt that'll happen now though, with Emma having already been the Dark One.
Complicated is just another way to say messed up. At least a pure villain doesn't go through hypocritical drama and some personal melodrama to be someone they aren't like Rumple.
Literally everyone in this show comes to Rumple at some point or other for his expertise in magic. Especially the heroes. Think back to season one…he gave Henry an amulet to help control the sleeping curse, and Rumple took the price of the magic onto himself. He can do good things through his dark magic. He is right here. Belle needs to shift her thinking into “how can I encourage him to use magic in good ways, rather than not be a wizard at all”

Elaini Young Not right now sure...but when it was conceived ya know, the love was there. I think they still love each other though. People fight, maybe not in tv shows like OUAT which fairytale based and the fights aren't really a big deal, but IRL many couples have issues just like these 2 and they still love each other. Just having differences on how to go about life right now and trying to figure out the best options. What they really need is to sit down have an honest conversation on both sides as well as be honest with themselves about their relationship not just in the state it is now, but since the beginning. Weigh all the pros and cons.
AeternaQueen They did, last season. When Rumple laid it all out for Belle; he's power hungry and will always go after it and never give it up, there's no changing that. He told her she had to decide if that was something she could live with, in order to have the life she wanted with him. She decided it wasn't, so she left and now Rumple can't deal with that, which is why hes throwing a tantrum
Elaini Young A couple can't have one talk. Thats not how it works. And last season wasnt when she decided to leave him. She mainly left due to the whole morpheus dreamworld situation. They both need to have a sit down with the cricket on a 2wice weekly basis.

I love this show
This was the only Belle and Rumple scene from half way through season four until the end of season 5 that I actually liked. Because, despite there being some negative tension here, it was the first time in quite a while that Rumple was totally honest with Belle. I wasn't a fan of where they took his character in season 4 onward, but I appreciated this moment. Because this time, he wasn't begging her to stay or making excuses. He was being real with her, that this was who she was and she could either take him or leave him. Of course, as of season 6 they've turned the guy into a total psycho... but it was nice while it lasted.
I couldn't stop laughing at this scene because this is when everything Rumple didn't want her to know came crashing on top of her. But not funny laughing more like nervous laughter!
Wow, watching this as a standalone scene, Rumple is coming off quite twisted and a bit menacing and Belle unfortunately helpless. Fascinating but messy relationship.

Totally agree. I mean Regina used her dark magic for good, and Rumple did that to. Maybe not as much as Regina did but whenever the heros asked for help, he helped out. And he willing went to Neverland to face Pan. Belle's going to be the reason Rumple goes back to being a true villain in the end once the evil queen arrives in storybrooke. I hope Rumple finds someone else that will love him for he is. I totally would. ❤️😍😘

I would love Taina to be the one Gold falls for. I mean she never asks for money and ALWAYS has to work to get it herself. And Rumple being the richest man in town could buy her anything, I could totally seeing it being so cute. Gold trying to buy her things while she works to earn money.
This is basically the premise of an abusive relationship, choosing to submit to a power hungry coward who wants his "true love" to have no free will of her own.

He's just basically telling her that if she wants to be with him, then she's going to have to accept him for who he is, and there's nothing wrong with that. Honestly, I think that this is a major step forward for him. He's no longer lying in order to make himself appear to be the perfect person that Belle wants him to be. He's not perfect, and he never will be. He knows this, and she either needs to accept that or she's free to go. There's nothing abusive about that, for once.

What I personally don't like about Belle in this scene is that she gets upset about how Rumpelstiltskin saved his son. It was many years before he met her and also, he really didn't think that he was going to have another child. I agree with her being upset at the idea of her losing her child, just not at what Rumpelstiltskin did in this particular case. Otherwise, I mostly agree with Belle and her choices; including when she gets upset at discovering him being the dark one again. Yet, I don't agree with her telling him to fix everything, it's not like her.
I think she's mad he never told her. When they got married, I'm sure she had hopes of having a child from Rumple. Telling your wife that you can't make a child is important because a lot of women look forward to having their own children. They can still adopt, but they need to know beforehand.
Not necessarily, it depends on the nature of their relationship, many people who already have kids rom previous relationships sometimes dont have kids with new person they are with. Maybe he assumed Belle was cool with it especially since she was very understanding towards him and his search for baelfire. And sometimes people dont talk about their stances when it comes to children, infact many people dont and then after they are married find out one person doesnt like kids and one person wants kids. Its something that is a responsibility of both parties to bring up in conversation not just one. You can't just assume when it comes to things like that.

Because Hades encourages Gaston to fight for Belle and if Gaston wins he would be happy that Hades want Rumple's and Belle's baby because he would want Belle to give him 6 or 7 boys not girls Gaston would feel he needs an heir a boy first the second one be a girl. If Rumplestikskin wins that would really be very great and wonderful and also he needs to protect Belle and their unborn son or daughter because Hades is making Belle to accept reality Rumple and her child belongs to him the baby would not be happy and safe from him. Belle loves her Rumple and not Gaston and never ever will. In s6 they had their baby. The eq sabotaged their relationship and family so they lost the child. They kind of went through marital problems after this under the stress of losing their child. In the end they both fight together for their child and succeed because both do the right thing. They are still together.
Ok Belle has a right to be upset about him not telling her he was the dark one again and about the fact that their child is IN DANGER. But she should not be angry at him because their child is in danger. He didn't go to hades knowing she was pregnant and offer up their child. He made a deal back BEFORE he was the dark one to save his son from death never believing he would have a second child. So her line about him having "already sold their child" in such an accusatory manner is unfair on that front

Honestly.... this Belle was SO judgmental. She acted like her love would change him from a “beast” into a “man” but them at every single turn she’s yelling at him and complaining about everything. Every single misstep was a crime worthy of scorn to her. Even mistakes he made BEFORE he met her were atrocious and unforgivable. She’s the most unforgiving Belle ever. I mean, Rumple is definitely NOT a great person. He is the dark one, which he chose to become on his own. He automatically uses dark magic to fix things as a first choice. However, I feel like if he didn’t feel like Belle was going to leave him every single time something went wrong he may have had an easier time trying to be a good man.

I hate Belle's reaction in here about the deal Rumple made. I mean she had right to be pissed about the whole Dark One thing but she got pissed even before that reveal😑for the deal Rumple made decades before she was even born, before having any power or even thinking someday he's gonna become a dark one and have any kids! and as information Belle, he was never planning to get devoted to you! even if somehow he fell in love, still it was you who put yourself on him in the first place, without him having any kind of purvy intentions about you!
I think that’s what I like about the way they wrote Belle. She’s so virtuous, but she makes the wrong choice sometimes too-wanting to keep her child from their father is one of those times. It’s understandable of course, but it’s also a bit selfish. I like that she’s complex

Belle can't even be happy about expecting a child. Rumple ruined that. No matter what he does and how many lies he tell her, she still kept going back.
Their relationship was toxic AF I was never a fan of it always thought the writers should have let Belle and Rumple go seperate ways

They did it before he went to the underworld. Near the end of the 5A finale, they did it and he was shown getting dressed while she was still asleep.

Okay this is a late response but this is when I think it was most likely. Right before the trip to the underworld the main characters (including rumple ) were all marked as sacrifices so dark ones could stay in story book. Realizing he would be dragged into the underworld, rumple told belle to take his car and see the world like she dreamed of. She realized something was wrong and someone told her about the marks. She came to rumple and commended him for being truly selfless and then they kissed effectively resuming their relationship (assuming they were broken up to begin with) after the kiss the next time we see the couple is back at gold’s house as he’s dressing and she’s still in bed. So my guess is this is when she got pregnant or sometime between and now and when gold is blackmailed into going into the underworld.

WTF?! "I love my dagger but i also love you". Ya know, this guy used tp be tolerable but now he's too messy and complicated and Belle is actually kinda stupid in this scene as well. Also, their struggling relationship and how they were able to be together despite all the problems used to be entertaining but now the writers have went overboard and their relationship is just crazy and way too messy

I used to love them, but I don't know if I can do this anymore. They're on and off and on and off and now it looks like what kept coming up earlier in the show was right: Who else thinks he loves his power more than Belle?
+TheReprobate ! Addiction is not love. I know what I'm talking about. The problem is that Rumple is addicted to something that can hurt the others way too much... Also people who are addicted think that their love for that thing/person/whatever is as strong as their love for someone else. It's really bad but I believe there could be still some hope for change.
But honestly with OUAT's writers I wouldn't be surprised if they let Rumple and Belle's romantic relationship/marriage go. But I looooooveeee watching Robert and Emilie in their scenes for that too much. I hope they will keep their scenes till the very end of this show even though they may not be together as a couple anymore.
