- Flixbus operates long distance buses in Germany. Since spring of 2018 the company also is offering rail travel. From Hamburg there is a train per day going to Cologne and back again, daily except Tuesday and Wednesday. Trains start at Cologne in the morning and at Hamburg in the afternoon.
In this video you can see the Flixtrain arriving at Hamburg Hbf from Hamburg-Altona and departing for Cologne.
Only a few minutes before the Flixtrain to Cologne the IRE to Berlin leaves Hamburg Central Station on Thursday and Friday. The IRE train is operated by DB (Deutsche Bahn). Formally, it is part of regional traffic, but if you plan to go to Berlin, the IRE is a low-cost alternative to long distance trains. The train consists of former long-distance cars - just like Flixtrain. And there is also class 182 electric engine (Taurus) in front of the train. There is one difference: Flixtrain is painted green, and the IRE is painted red. At the end of the video you can compare both trains, entering Hamburg Central station and passing along the Oberhafen, on their way to the Elbe bridges. Decide for yourself what colour you like best. - Auta a dopravní prostředky

Sehr schönes Video!
Vielen Dank und noch einen schönen Sonntagabend! Gruß, Dirk
I find it amazing how the Halberstadt cars have managed to survive through the decades. Multiple owners, colors, configurations. Who would have known that the long-distance cars of the DDR would play such an important role in the future rail network of Germany. If I was one of the former workers of the factory, I would be proud.
I wouldn' t have expected that myself, but it is definitely a hint that the railway industry of the GDR has produced excellent quality. Thanks for your comment! Dirk
Indeed it has. BR 112, 143 and 232 are great examples of such quality.
BR 202 (former 110 / V 100) is another good example. (BR 232 were produced in the Soviet Union.)
Sadly... DB Regio and Flixtrain are the last resort of them... The rest is in Bulgaria, or scrapped. Sadly many are not in a good condition there.
If you need flixtraintickets within a journey also done with DB ? How best proceed ? We want to go from Liege (Belgium) to Copenhagen. Ice to Koln, flixtrain to Hamburg, intercity from Hamburg to Kopenhagen ? Although I think it we,t well with a European planner (not DB seller). Tips for good websites for integrated journeys with also Flixtrain, Izy, these lowbudget-trains in France....? THANKS.....DIRK !!!!!!!
For mixed journeys, gleisnost.de is often recommended. They started with journeys to East Europe but they are not limited to that. You have to check if Flixtrain is operating at the time of your journey. Due to corona lockdown, they have stopped their service once.
Ja ok der rote ist schöner!
Ich kann mich schwer entscheiden!
Beiden Farben
Mir gefallen auch beide Farben gut, beide sind machen was her. Schöne Grüße, Dirk
