      Do you need a working permit for working out of Thailand then ?

    • @adamparker21
      @adamparker21  Před měsícem +2

      @@ojbkk Yes, you need to have a proper Visa (Non-B, SMART, LTR, etc.) and Work Permit to legally work from Thailand. This includes Remote Workers that work for a company or have a business outside of Thailand.

    • @ojbkk
      @ojbkk Před měsícem

    • @adamparker21
      @adamparker21  Před měsícem +1

      @ojbkk Correct. Technically, you would need to find/rent 'office' space if you were a remote worker that would be setting up a Thai company. You would also need 4x Thai staff on the books in order for a Work Permit to be issued. If you are a higher earning remote worker (ie. you worked remote for a larger company) you would be better off going the LTR visa route where you don't need to get office space. You'd also get a digital work permit out of this versus the standard Work Permit that would typically be issued alongside a Non-B Visa (if you went the route of setting up a proper Thai company).

    Hi Adam - Great content and well done with your channel so far. I'm interested in content about expat families from the USA, particularly regarding schools.
    My wife is from Bangkok, and we're quite familiar with the city and absolutely love it. We've been living in the US for several years now, and our son is currently 3 years old. We're contemplating a move to Bangkok in the near future, possibly when our son is entering 3rd to 5th grade.
    We'd love to hear from expat families about their experiences with the education system in Thailand. Specifically, we're curious about the differences between public education in the U.S. and private American international schools in Bangkok, and how well these schools prepare students for college and beyond.

Would be interested to know if you and your guests take the environmental degradation, and the impacts of this degradation on your health into account when deciding on this major life move?

    • @adamparker21
      @adamparker21  Před měsícem +1

      Thanks man and yes. In Bangkok I think the pollution should 100% considered as a very real ‘negative’ when listing out Pros and Cons as part of a potential move. Is it unbearable every second of every day? No. But it’s definitely noticeable enough (particularly from January to April) where it affects quality of life when outdoors. I’d imagine the same would go for Chiang Mai during the same time frame. I’m not sure what part of the Country you have your place at the beach… but air quality and pollution usually isn’t an issue in the Islands and would be far less of an issue anywhere along the coast a few hours south of Bangkok (ie. Hua Hin, Chumphon, etc.). There would be the odd polluted day… but it would be rare and I don’t think a move to the beach would warrant much thought when it comes to air pollution. That’s just my two cents.

    This is a very informative video. I'm thinking about moving to Thailand for retirement. Wondering if it's possible to rent a small house with a yard in Bangkok around USD$300~/M. Suburb is fine, but concern if their rapid transit goes there/ public transportation system is convenient there? Most importantly, if their big grocery store chains would deliver grocery to suburban areas ( I have arthritis in both hands)? Chiang Mai sounds interesting too. Is that true that Chiang Mai has more retirees ( seniors) while as Bangkok has expats of all age groups? Thank you. 😅

    • @adamparker21
      @adamparker21  Před měsícem

      At current conversion rates, that's just under 11K Baht per Month which is doable. But... it would be a small house deep in the Bangkok suburbs. The sort of neighbourhood where it would take you 45 minutes to get into the central part of the city by BTS or MRT (ie. Bang Na, part of Samut Prakan, Bang Wa, Nonthaburi, Suan Luang, etc.). Nothing wrong with this at all. In fact, those neighbourhoods are often pretty cool and if you're okay to live a simpler life without the hustle and bustle of the big city, might even be something you prefer. At that price point, my guess is that you'd end up with a small, simple, but pretty decent 2 or 3 bedroom house. As far as Bangkok versus Chiang Mai goes, I would say that there's a higher percentage of the foreign-born population in Chiang Mai that are retirees. Not sure on actual numbers though. What you stated makes sense. As far as grocery delivery goes, yes... this would not be a problem.

      @adamparker21 Hi Adam, thank you so very much for the informative reply. Really appreciated. Despute 2 - 3 bedroom is an overkill to me, I'm only glad it's possible. What I'm hoping to get is hopefully a simple living space (a studio / 1 bedroom or anything, besides a small house) not too packed with people ( most condo communities or the like have so many tenants and so intimately "connected" that dies not leave much room for "(mental) space" and sometimes privacy). Wondering if it's possible to get something like that in areas that's a bit closer to the central city with USD$300/m~ Thank you.😅

    • @adamparker21
      @adamparker21  Před měsícem

      Yes - possible. But it would be a Studio or 1-Bedroom condo. You'd be able to find that in a solid neighbourhood (not right in the centre of the city but a 15-minute BTS Skytrain ride away....). As far as finding a condo building with not many tenants goes... that'd probably be tough.

    • @chev6901
      @chev6901 Před měsícem

      @adamparker21 Thank you, Adam. Really appreciate your reply. 15 minutes Skytrain away... sounds like $300/m won't get me even just a studio in the city. Is that for both Bangkok and Chiang Mai. Just for my information. 😂

It sounds like it could really add to the tax burden in Thailand, not to mention all the extra hassle with tax registrations and returns, right?

      it's nothing special or unusual. If you're living there more than half the year, then you are a tax resident and need to pay tax on income - income from any source globally. The thing is that Thailand has a tax treaty with many countries, so most people won't be taxed twice.
      USA citizens may be double taxed though, because USA never lets you 'leave' the USA, for tax purposes.

    You are completely missing the point - subtract 10 to 15 years from your life expectancy if you stay in BKK. Air pollution will cause you long term latent cancer and respiratory problems. If you have children they will also suffer from breathing in dangerous chemicals. Ask yourself now where you want to live?

    • @adamparker21
      @adamparker21  Před měsícem +2

      That makes sense. Long-term exposure obviously can’t be healthy. Far from it. I especially dislike the air when caught in traffic and taking in the fumes from the busses. No good. I’ll likely head South at some point in the not to distant future with air quality concerns being one of a few reasons.
